Title: Don't we have enough Bob's already?
Post by: jtaylor on February 08, 2007, 07:29:05 PM
Can we have a moratorium on any new forum members with "Bob" in their names? We already have Bob, bob the skull, bobismyhero, Bob-the-Skull, BobSkull, bobtheskull, Bob_is_my_copilot, and If I was Bob...

It's time to stop the madness!

I suddenly have the strongest desire to sign up for a new login with the name "bobrocks" ;)

I agree, though I don't think there's anyway for Fred to limit usernames in that way.  But then, I've never messed with this type of forum.

I blame this thread, I now can't get the tune of the old 60's song
Quote
I want to be Bobby's girl
out of my head. Perhaps I should have amended that as Bob's girl as my screen name. Because my father's name was Robert (the relatively new English spelling) and so I was really Bob's girl, still am I guess though that (my father) Bob died over 40 years ago.
Perhaps it's just that this board attracts people with skull fixations? (No offense intended :ducks:) ;)

Is it irony if my real name isn't Robert or Bob?

I just picked my userid to differentiate myself from BobTheGhost.  I hate that guy.  He's *way* too spirited, and I think his mother dresses him funny.

If it isn't Robert or Bob, is it Hrothbert?

We need a Hrothbert to keep the Bobs in line.  :)

There aren't too many Bobs.  There are too few Murphys (Murphies?).  There are some Michaels, but they don't seem to post much.  And what about Butters?  No Ilovebutters either?  Or Waldorocks?

I'd be happy to change my username here if we've got too many bobs.  Maybe I can be a symbol formerly known as BobTheSkull.  If we make it the circle with an arrow, that would make me the sex symbol formerly known as BobTheSkull, wouldn't it?

But I draw the line....wait, I can't draw, even a line, ..., even if I could draw, I won't be hrothbert.  I need not explain.  I'm not sure I can anymore anyway.

If I were switched to Butters though, I'd have to use the image from the Southpark Butters.  Just not the one where he's dressed as a girl.  Maybe the one with him dressed all in tinfoil though.

I once knew a Spirit named Bob,
A Wizard's familiar his job,
With a bleached skull his home,
He was never alone,
His fans an appreciative mob.

Go Bob!

 ;)

Edited:  For dreadful spelling (and even worse poetry).

I'm still waiting for two things:

For Bob (it only works if it's Bob) to use the pic of Bob from Black Adder II.

For someone to name themselves Bobert.

Bob limericks win!  Mine, from a few months ago:

There once was a spirit named Bob
Remembering things was his job.
Like how to make potions
From calamine lotions
Or flee from a ravening mob.

And does Butters get love-points for my icon? *grins*

Pricillie:  Maybe we should start a Harry Dresden filk, limerick, and poem thread (the "more off the wall" contribution, the better!) ;D

I don't think any forum can controll the handles people choose, except maybe word-replacement for the occasional troll that decides to use an off-color word for a handle (I've seen this happen on another board I used to hang around). And I'm tempted to ask to have my handle changed to "Bob Fangurl", while we're on the subject.

Nah, I'll stick to the odd name I use for a character on the Matrix Online, said name being a combination of "Morrigan", the Celtic goddess of death and "aeon", a class of god-like beings according to the Gnostic sub-set of Christianity.

In 1991 Robert was the 13th most popular name.

By 2005 it had dropped to 39th.

That is still a lot of Bobs.

I wonder if the name will now grow more popular?

I have a desire to get a Dresden screen name and post one big topic that says "Bobs, get in your collective skull."

Well...I was actually referring to the way TV Dresden shouts it, but I guess it's open for interpretation.

Interesting bit of triva:

It is sort of fun to name things Bob, personally i use Edward

I started reading Dresden files because my cousin wanted me to name my skull (from my anatomy class) Bob. He lend me the books and the rest is history... and now a female skull is named Bob....and I have became part of the  the name your skull Bob cult.

I've started calling the skull on my mother's desk (a very real-looking fakey we bought at an after-Hallowe'en sale) Bob and even having fake two-way conversations with it

I had a friend in college who's nickname was Bob, and it really wouldn't suprise me if that skull you had was her.

Now I feel like I should change my name to Bob's Wizard...

Instead I'll stick with the login I'm proud of... An homage to Harry's description of his spell words as
 'quasi-latin'. I found that description fantastic.   :)

I never met Bob, online or otherwise. I was unfortunate to have joined after his passing. I have in the interst of knowing this community gone back over some of the historic interactions with "Bob".

I regret not knowing him better.
