Myyrdn is going to freak again.
Gonna have to ask for Monday afternoon and Tuesday Off.
Oh yeah! Now to figure out where I stashed my noose...
*slaps forehead* THAT'S what I recognized you from!
;D ;D ;D
Not sure if I should be flattered at the recognition, or hurt that it took this long....
You just said we'd met at NYCC! I met over a hundred Butcher fans that weekend. You didn't say, "I was Nicodemus, silly. You have pictures of us posing goofily on your phone." :D
Heh. I don't even remember saying that part - my memories of the encounter are a little fuzzy for some reason. My current inclination is to blame it on "Winter Queen intervention".
Yeah....problem is that Tyson's Corner is like the 5th circle of hell. Plus for me, the traffic to GET there is about...the 9th level of hell. Gonna have to think on this one.
Myyrdn is going to freak again.
You wish. :D

Hmm. East coast, huh? Guess I better be packing my bags and buying my tix for KC!
LML
These are just the Borders dates/locations. There are sure to be more elsewhere. Other than possibly B&N's all over, they seem to like to send Jim to several indy bookstores like Powell's books in Washington State among others. Prisc keeps telling Mickey Finn that it's very likely he will show up in Dallas again (or somewhere in Texas, I'm not positive that's the city she said).
I am shocked that Jim is not making an appearance for his two biggest fans here in Maine! ;D
Priscellie - Will you be going on a signing tour?
I am shocked that Jim is not making an appearance for his two biggest fans here in Maine! ;DI'm pulling for you! It's a beautiful part of the country!
FYI, last time I was at a signing w/Barnes and Noble they didn't (or weren't supposed) to have Jim or Shannon sign a book that wasn't bought at that store and they were looking for receipts! Bit of a downer if that is still their policy and you want to read it ASAP on release and your signing is later.
Will he sign my dog-eared copy of "The Two Towers"? And maybe hi-lite any passages he deems may be interesting to read...
;D ;D
I hope they can put 2 and 2 together and let him sign my nook. (I got a new backing, he already signed the old one but I didn't realize at the time it was upside down).
I'll be happy to sign Alera maps at SDCC, Jim's NY tour stop, and NYCC. :D
Thanks Meg! Fyr and I would make his trip very nice I am sure of it!Oh yes. I'm sure we can come up with something...

WOO HOO! Time to plan a trip!
OMG!OMG!OMG! I am so there! Yippeeeee!Whatever will I wear? :D
sad day :( no where close to Montana. will there be any additional or is this the final?
This is it. He tries to vary up the places he visits each year, so hopefully he'll swing closer to you next year.
KC also has the megaawesomebonus of being RELEASE DAY!
Be sure to let Jim know how far you drove to see him. That's a truly heroic quest!
It also has the Smokehouse Barbecue restaurant. AKA Nom Until You Burst 'Cause It's That Damn Good.

Priscellie,
I'm being lazy ...
Do you happen to know if I can go into Rainy Day books and pre-order?
I guess I could just call, or drop by but like I said, I'm lazy.
All right, so I've just gotten off of the phone with a guy at the Barnes and Noble in Tysons (McLean, VA). /Generally/, the policy is to only allow items bought in-store to be signed. But author's preference will factor into it as well. The guy said probably the best way to go would be to buy one item in-store, and then say, "Oh, I've also got one/a couple more to get signed, as well," depending on the author and their preference. So, yeah, bring along a few books, but I would expect to have to go to the end of the line after 1-2 of them, depending on the line size.
I know that for my part, I'll probably be preordering a copy of GS, because I want to get a copy for the local library as well. And taking along a couple Codex books. :D
Also, if there are any other locations folks would like me to call to ask about signing policy, I'll be more than happy to do so. Course, Pris may hear differently from Jim on some of it, so of course there's that to bear in mind.
Anyone know if they'll allow signing of books brought in (i.e. not purchased in-store)?
Call the bookstore and ask! Please let us know what you find.
However, keep in mind that buying the book at the store is good form. Pat Rothfuss explained nicely:Quote1. This is going to be my first booksigning and I don’t know the etiquette. Do I need to buy my book at the bookstore, or can I bring a book from home?-- http://blog.patrickrothfuss.com/2011/02/faq-the-wise-mans-fear-signing-tour/
Honestly? The polite thing to do is to buy your book at the bookstore hosting the event.
You see, the bookstores hosting me put a lot of time, energy, and money into events like these. They order a BUNCH of books. They bring in extra staff to manage the crowds, set up chairs, and sometimes reorganize parts of the store. If the signing goes late, they have to keep the store open after hours.
Also, you have to remember that while the bookstore loves you, they are also, you know, a store. A store that sells books. They need to sell books to stay in business.
But there are other reasons too. Let’s say I do a signing and the bookstore sells 500 books. That bookstore is happy. That bookstore likes me. That bookstore wants to have me back for future events. Also, my publisher is happy, and they feel like spending the money to fly me out to events like this are a worthwhile investment.
But if I do a signing and sell, say, 20 books, odds are the bookstore won’t be inviting me back in the future.
Ultimately, buying a book at the hosting store is just good manners. They’re putting a lot of work into the event, and buying a book is the best way to show that you appreciate that.
Of course, many fans aren't going to want to wait the two or five or eight days for Jim to come through their city to buy and read the book, in which case I suggest buying the book from the store hosting Jim on release day.
Of course, many fans live far away from the store in question and don't want to make the trek twice, in which case I suggest they buy SOMETHING from the store when they come to see Jim, preferably of equal value to one of Jim's books. Thank the store with your moneys!
Make sure you check with the bookstore, however, as they all have different policies. Some may offer preferential treatment to folks who buy the book in-store.
Jim is usually willing to sign three books per person. If someone has more than that, they can go through the line again, as long as there's enough time.
BTW, if any of you guys are taking a recording of your signing's Q&A, and aren't interested in posting it to youtube, I am willing to snail-mail you an SD card (with return packaging) to copy your video onto if you are willing to let me post it.
You rock.
NY will be covered by our own intrepid camera crew. :D
I know for a fact there'll be a flotilla of Flips and other digital camcorders.
Dam I think that JB is not going to make it to the West Coast this year!
David

Ooooh....
If we do this right, we can put together a (first ever) 3D fan-movie of the signing...
;D ;D ;D ;D
*facepalm*
JIM BUTCHER
This summer in 3D and Imax 3D.
And I just realized that my digital camera has video, so I guess I could conceivably record at the Naperville event too.
I am going to bring a video camera to contribute to the collective
You'll know me i'll be the one with the t-shirt and the smile. ;)
I think it's expected that you wear pants at these things (unless you're coming as Ehren).... ;D
In recent months, Jim expressed some interest in attending San Diego Comic Con, though we still don't have confirmation as to whether or not he's going. If you're planning on attending that, you might have another cool person to see! (And if not, hey, it's still SDCC! Not like there is a dearth of cool people. :D)
No love for the west coast?

Very sad that this will be the first year that I won't get to see Jim (even if he does make it to Comic-Con, I was not one of the few blessed people able to score passes). :( Do you know if there will be a virtual signing this year? (Did I miss an announcement?)

Oh, this is sooooooo doable - only 2 hours away - I finally get to meet him!!!!!! I am so excited.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Questions: Can we bring our older books to get signed? Will there be a limit? Or is there some other way that would be better to get others signed? Also, do we need to get the book earlier and bring it or purchase it there? LOL, I've never been to a book signing before so excuse the newbie questions and I suppose I should get there early? :-[

To add to Shecky's advice, I would suggest buying the book there. That is I think what Mr Butcher stated at some point that it is simply better to buy the book at the hosting location as that helps the PTB know that it is worth sending him out on the book tours. I know I will be doing that as well.
I was quoting Pat Rothfuss' blog, not Jim. But the logic applies to most authors, I'd think!

Two bonuses apply for those doing this at dates on the signing tour that are not on release day:
1) You wait nobly to purchase your book until signing day. Your sacrifice of reading time helps bump your store a little bit farther up the Maybe They'll Get Him To Come Back Here list. Win.
2) You aren't BURNING with the powerful urge to SPOIL ALL THE THINGS. Win.
:D
Would buying a different book in the series also be appropriate because i still need turncoat and i was thinking i would just buy that one there instead of Ghost StoryBrandon Sanderson's suggestion is that even if the store doesn't require you to buy the book there, at least buy *A* book, so that you're supporting the store. So I'd say buying Turn Coat would apply to that, and also apply to showing you appreciate Jim, specifically, being there.
Dose Jim have any plans for coming to Phila,Pa in the very near future?
Thank you, MX, are they pretty easy routes to follow, considering i've rarely driven at night outside of Wisconsin *L*
these are the kind of posts that makes me want to go and live there.
Hehe. I actually live in a town about 30ish miles SW of Naperville, but I used to work up that way and still see friends there from time to time. Quite a bit to do in what is commonly referred to as Chicagoland. Heck, they even call the speedway used for Nascar the Chicagoland Speedway even though it is technically about 30-40 miles outside of Chicago city limits in the city of Joliet.
I'm planning on going to the signing in Beaver Creek. Do we have to buy Ghost Story at Books & Co to attend the signing?
Does anybody know if Jim will be at Dragon Con in Atlanta this year?
Given that Master Butcher will be doing a signing at the Mysterious Galaxy booth, does anyone know if he'll be doing a signing at their store, as well?
I am so excited for the Mass signing. Yay for a New England visit!
Oh shoot....now because I have no idea how long it takes to get to Naperville, and given that I could get lost (which from MX's description it may be fairly easy, thank you :)), plus bar any low blood sugars (with me driving alone) and stuff like that....I may not have a snowballs chance of getting a book signed even if I do make it down there, right, or seating..... Plus I have to convince my husband to let me use the car instead of the van...just don't think the van would make it.
I don't know what time I'd have to leave, I'm soooo lost!
I'll be the one hiding behind Chiro.
Looks like he's gonna be at Books and Co. in Beavercreek OH Fri July 29th. That'll make my daughter extremely thrilled. She met him a few years ago when he was there and she was 8yrs old. He couldn't believe someone that young had read all his books. She's eagerly awaiting seeing him again and reading the newest one. She'll have it read in 36 hours or less again. LOL
Eight years old? Wow. She must be very mature for her age! I wouldn't dream of giving Eight-Year-Old Me these books. :D

I apologize if other touchy Portlandites have objected to this but Powell's (aka the best bookstore on the entire planet) is most definitely in Oregon. The main location is downtown Portland and the location that Jim visited last time was in Beaverton or Hillsboro. Oh, and boo for that - downtown would be way easier for me to get to on a weeknight.

This makes me sad. The only signing remotely close to me, and it has to be at the one time that I've had a baby shower scheduled for my best friend for months. I don't think she would understand if I opened my house, but wasn't there so that I could go see some guy that wrote some book blah blah blah.
Eight years old? Wow. She must be very mature for her age! I wouldn't dream of giving Eight-Year-Old Me these books. :D
It turned out great, MX :) OH I finally found my recorder *just falls over in a fit of laughter* on the desk in front of me...wow...am I tired or what?
Wonder what's on it!
Thanks so much, MX!
Did you see I nearly ended up turning on the wrong road and heading back into Chicago, I think Harry wants Susan back in Chicago! ;D
I actually have no idea where I am right now.I hope you recovered ok from your late night, early rise :)
yeah as long as you got some sleep after. MX you need a job with the phone company between last night and tonight :)
I slept well - except after our power went out and something out in the hall had low batteries. Every two minutes it kept saying "Low Battery."
Can I send you my Recorder and you can tell me how to get it to run now, MX? :D
You met me, am I really that bad?? Wait...don't answer that ;D
8/1, McLean, VA at Tyson’s Corner: A recent B&N receipt for any of Jim Butcher’s books is required to join the signing line. Passes handed out at 5pm.Well I guess its a good thing they aren't specifying which book in case they run out of Ghost Story you can purchase any of them.
You could relocate the baby shower.... I'm sure the folks putting it on would let you set up a corner seating area. :-)There's an idea! The guests wouldn't have liked the four hour commute, I'm afraid. But I had a good laugh over the idea of a baby shower in the corner, trying to ignore the rampaging Butcher fans.
some guy who wrote some book? if shes your best friend how come shes not going with uUnfortunately, she's not my best friend because we have similar tastes in books. She's my best friend because she's funny and speaks four languages. Dresdenian isn't one of them, though :-(

Dresdenian is going to be the basic soon, those who don't learn it will be ostracized from society :DI'm all for that! What do I need to do to further the campaign? I'm a good grunt soldier.
So no NYCC appearance this year? :( Or could it still be in the works? :D
does he do little cons, like the Madison, WI one ever?
I can totally understand that...hmmmm...how about he and Shannon stop by for a home-made supper and a few days sitting out by our new pool, maybe a bonfire and maybe a weekend up at the trailer (on the Mississippi River) fishing for a weekend too? :D (something we do a lot during the summer, they'd all be welcome anytime, we always have fun up there, nice place to get away, and we never turn anyone down :))Sounds great! May we come too?
Sure, the more the merrier!*Booking my bunk or couch now!!*
Are there going to be any event or signings in September or October? I could not find any listed on the calendar.
Darn, I missed him this year. I just bought a house and was sidetracked on keeping an eye out for when he was going to be near here.
Will Jim do Dragoncon next year? Or does he plan on doing the Worldcon that same weekend? Or neither ...
Hubby and I are looking at possibly doing one or the other, and I'd love to attend one of JB's signings/talks.
I don't believe Jim is planning on doing any cons next year.

Thanks for the answer, sorry to be so slow answering back! Been busy in real life ...
You do an awesome job on JB's site Priscellie. Again thanks!
