@Sanctaphrax it says be of much use, not that it can never be done or that it will never be useful.  Using the default equipment that comes from your base Lore would be very difficult in a fight, and pulling off the sort of stuff required to raise the complexity would be even harder.

But if a wizard wants to spend a bunch of fate points invoking various aspects to raise the complexity above zero and roll at a rate of one roll per exchange I see nothing wrong with using thaumaturgy in a fight.

I see templates as defining what you can take, but you can change templates or have multiple ones.  The difference is that the GM is much more likely to say no to a custom template than taking powers allowed within one.

I don't know about the catch based damage and blood healing.  Most of his damage was using either fire or sunlight, and really, "rotten corpse" and "burnt rotten corpse" aren't different enough for an aspect.

I think you're thinking of Red Court or White Court Vampires.  Black Court have no healing abilities to speak of- they merely propagate through killing others, but don't gain anything from it aside from making more BCVs.  To quote the YS entry on Living Dead:

So by that logic, it needs some form of magic to regain its strength.  THE OW entry on BCVs mentions healing would have some indirect form of healing, something like taxidermist thralls to preserve them (since they don't heal- for example, Harry takes off 1-Ear's ear and it stays missing.)

(....Chuck Testa is a BCV thrall....)

No, I'm not mistaken.  BCVs have Blood Drinker, which lets them heal a minor consequence.  I acknowledge that the rules fail to address how a BCV heals more severe consequences, but since canon has it (can't remember the name of the short story from Side Jobs) that BCVs can heal fully from drinking blood that's what I'm going with.

So I'm asking people what their opinion is for how many people this BCV would have to drain to heal the various consequences.

DFRPG / How many people drained for a BCV to be fully functional?
« on: December 12, 2011, 01:59:00 PM »
So last game the PCs managed to inflict every last consequence on the big bad Master Black Court Vampire before it got away, including Extreme (it lost it's left arm to a blowtorch for that one).  All by the book too, had quite a few die rolls gone differently the BCV either would have been destroyed, or one of the PCs could have died.

Anyway, my question is, roughly how many people will this BCV have to completely drain to be fully healed?  By the rules only the minor consequence can be, but I think that is both lame and doesn't fit with how things work in canon.  Also, do you think the extreme consequence should be fixable with enough blood?  I can see arguments both ways.

There's no way the BCV is dead from that.  Taken out, yes, at the very least the BCV is far enough away now that it would take a new scene for it to show up.  The only question is how many people need to be drained of their blood for it to come back with no physical consequences.

In my game there was a PC that started out as a focused practitioner.  She later upgraded to sorcerer, and now is a wizard (although according to the White Council she hasn't finished her apprentaceship yet).

DFRPG / Re: Thaumaturgical counterspell?

I'm noy sure about counterspells since they're described as being like attacks, but for most kinds of evocation the control roll does not improve the power of the spell.  If you are doing a Block for instance it doesn't matter how good your control roll is if you're willing to take backlash.  The only difference is for Attacks, where the control roll is also the roll to hit, and thus contributes to the stress inflicted.

Sorry, I meant too short for regular weapons.

Personally I ignore the range limits in the book as being *way* too short, and just go with what makes sense at the time.

My game originally had 5 players (besides me).  I later expanded it to 7 without any issue.

On the other hand, compelling an aspect added by someone else through a manouver can be problematic.

Wow.

I actually am at a loss at how to reflect what kind of body guard you could hire with that.

I wouldn't make them jump through any mechanical hurdles though.  It sounds like they already did enough of that already.  The question is just is what kind of person you would hire.  That would be way more than Kincaid IMHO.  Like, maybe Odin personally follows you around as your body guard or something.

We run once every two weeks (although there have been a number of cancelations) and each session is less than 4 hours.  We started in October of last year, and we're at 46 skill points and 12 refresh, started at Submerged.

How much damage would a head on colision do, with both cars moving fast?  Would the drive roll be an all or nothing thing, or would it lower the damage by some amount?

I'm thinking of a situation where a BCV will have a Renfield jump the yellow line while the PCs are driving to make an ambush easier.
