Title: cold showers

He regularly puts out enough heat blasts to melt metal and bricks.
it shouldn't take much juice to warm up a hot water tank.
that would seem like a valuable skill to practice.

Drawing the heat from another water tank, thus freezing it for his ice box.

No he can not do that. Heating your tub with magic is dangerous and will change you into a cackling warlock in no time.

What would be the fun in that?  And now that he is the Winter Knight why would he bother?

And if  Harry had a tub he could have had hot baths simply by heating water on his ?/wood burning/? stove. Like they've done for hundreds of years.  After all the Brownies stocked wood for him and hauled out the ashes.  Or I should say that they did, since he has no apartment now.

Another interesting point related to this regards Demonreach.  No running water and no sewers.  No bathtub or shower or john.  Of course the Winter Knight won't freeze but Harry using a slit trench in deep winter in Michigan is an interesting picture. ;)

I've seen wood fired hot tubs for sale. Obtaining a wood fired water heater shouldn't be difficult.

The easy way, unless you are broke like Harry *sigh*, have a big, or at least long house, you at one end, hot water heater at the other end, far enough from you so that you do not recreate the scene from Mythbusters where they tested a hot water heater rocket (right through the roof, hundreds of feet high).

The weirdest things i that Hot Water is a pre-world war 2 invention, so shouldn't be affected by his 'technofield' any more than the blue beatle.

The beetle is not continuously used and Harry does not do much magic when using it but even then it is continuously in repair.

A heating system would be inside his wards in a place were Harry does a lot of magic all the time. And while you can bring the beetle to the mechanic you have to let people in to repair your heating system which is a security risk as well.

A thin copper tube, wound round and round with a gentle flame beneath. Even a charcoal brazier would work. Made such a device once and it worked fine. Not perfect, but fine :)
There are many non-technological solutions (non-magical as well) but the thing is that Jim wants Harry's life to be as hard as possible. So he made him stupid, or cba whichever.

This is not about Jim wanting to make Harry’s life hard. This is about Harry not wanting to use magic for his personal comfort because he is afraid of the sliding scale to full warlock. It is a very important part of his characterization.

As pointed out above -- woodfired solutions are known.  It's possible that JIM didn't know, of course!

But I'm gonna go with Jim wanted to make Harry's life hardcolorful.

Also keep in mind Harry was renting. Major remodeling would have been a no/no.

The White Council created the Ostentatiatory and didn't slide into warlockishness, so using magic for personal comfort or advancement isn't dangerous as far as Black Magic corruption. (But maybe it makes you into insufferable elitists.)

And Lucio uses magic for her coffee. But it is not about that.

Harry started as a warlock and Ebenezer must have feared a relapse so he gave Harry a very strict set of rules. Magic is beautiful and should only be used for the right things. Harry does not want to use magic to make life easier. He has stricter rules because the warlock temptation is stronger with him. He is too anal about it but that is very much in character.

It also explains his shock when he learned about the blackstaff.
