Title: Posting errors
Post by: Spot on June 08, 2011, 07:14:29 PM
Since this morning, every time I try to post something on the site (be it a reply to an existing thread or post a new thread), I get a "Last posting from your IP was less than 30 seconds ago" error message.

I know for sure that the time difference between posts is longer than 30 seconds. I timed it (twice) to be sure.

Any clue what's happening?

I'd bet it's clock skew. Your computer's idea of what time it is and the webserver's idea of what time it is might be differing.

So what do I do?  ???

Not sure, honestly. Clearly it unlocks at some point and you are able to post, right? So how long is that exactly? Unbearable?

Nope, not really unbearable. Sometimes it's a minute, sometimes longer. But I've got twitchy fingers. ;D

Thanks Iago. :)

You may want to consult your local computer expert, too, to see if there's a clock synchronization issue with your own computer. (The problem could be on the server end too, but that's... er, a little more fraught for me to medicate, actually.)

I have had the same thing happen to me a number of times as well. generally I just shut down my web browser and restart it, clears it right up.

Oddly, I don't see the problem since 3 PM my time. So must be something going on with the firewall at my end.

Or it may  have been this. :) Who knows how these things work!

It hapened to me a couple of times. But I just refreshed the page and then it worked.

The computers have finally achieved sentience.  They are merely mischievous now, but it will only get worse.

I've noticed that sometimes when you get that 30 second message more than once in a row you can close and reopen your browser.

I had the message several times later (always more than 30 seconds). Once even it was my first post in hours. I thought it was my count. It is not unbearable, so it doesn't matter too much to me.

Yeah, it isn't unbearable. I'm just impatient sometimes.  ::) :D

The perversity of inanimate objects.  A theory I heard somewhere.
Inanimate objects are all out to stop us from doing what we want..the only reason we
do achieve anything is that other objects interfere with them and we get things done.
(Talk about a conspiracy theory)
