DF Spoilers / Re: Lara Raith marriage consummation
« on: July 24, 2022, 10:43:38 PM »
Harry's instructions to Molly at the end of proven guilty were more specific to her than a general rule. He wasn't trying to keep her a virgin, he just wanted to stop her from having an orgasm (he forbade her to masturbate). I think he believed her volatile emotions would combine with her sensitivite powers to turn her into a warlock.
I believe the "virginity" clause of the Lady mantle wasn't something that was originally intended by Butcher in Summer Knight, thus Lily. He added it later to serve something in the plot. Maybe to keep Molly as a forbidden match for Harry.
This happens sometimes. I don't believe for a second that Butcher knows EXACTLY how everything is going to happen in his series, just the general outline. Everything else gets created along the way, with plot points moving him in different directions.

Second post, other topic:

Our nephew visited yesterday with his friend who is a girl.  ;D
They are definitely together. We saw them kiss :-*
LOL
Before it wasn't official, but nowhe is introducing her to the family. Cute.

My husband and I are going to the cinema today. We are watching Thor.
My daughter watched it on Friday with her friends. It was her birthday party and I was not allowed to join them, because I seem to embarrass her, or so she told me, lol.

It is still hot, but now there are thunderstorms and rain in between as is normal for that part of the year.
Let me know if it's any good. I read the plot line and it didn't draw me in.
About translations: I don't think it's needed to like the book, as long as they have good writing skills, and are immersed in the original language's culture.
And that one borders poetry and poetry is even more impossible to translate.
Remove the poetry from the translation. No great loss.

I know we talked about this, but not relative to summer veggies. And yes, 36 is too hot for carrots. I don't know about radishes. Never tried them.
My uncle is here visiting, he lives in the US. My sister asked me for some seeds that I'll send to her with him. Egyptian eggplant (smaller than the US variety) and bell peppers, some leafy greens and mint.
You've mentioned your slug problem before. If you don't want a chemical solution, then know that plants can survive them. It's quite possible if you fertilize heavily enough, though you have to be careful not to "burn" the plants with too much fertilizer at once.

Well, happy friendship day to you too :D
I think I've mentioned before how much I dislike translations. Once my English improved enough that I didn't need the dictionary 10 times in every page (that was before Google), I switched to originals and never looked back.
Sorry about your veggies, Regen. But 36 isn't that hot.. What kind of veggies do you have?

Hello there :)
Yes, I remember you saying that you chose not to have children. Unfortunately, here in Egypt that's not really an option if you are able. The attitude is relaxing over the years, but it's simply a matter of limiting the number of children and regulating your household. There was a government awareness campaign in the nineties that encouraged people to have less children, and it was still met with a lot of opposition from religious conservatives (and non religious conservatives as well).
In other news, I gathered the last of my grapes yesterday, and they were delicious. I made a fruit salad with apples, grapes, mulberries and strawberries with mango nectar as a base. Yum. :D

Just saying that Harry could get Lara to believe that Mab might have a claim on the child.
Lara is too smart to fall for that. If anything, Mab would have an obligation towards the child's protection and upbringing. At least in abscence of his parents.
Yes, that is often the reason, but in this case I hope not, or rather Harry already has more children than he can handle.. Even if Lara insisted which I'm sure she would a child would be hers to do with what she will..
I really don't care about that, all I'm saying is Harry as daddy really hasn't added that much to the story.  There are plenty of other threads that have been left dangling, we don't need any new ones.
I agree completely. This will be a complication that will take quite a few chapters out of every future book for years. That doesn't mean that I don't want to see the marriage go through, because I do. I think they're pretty well matched.

Heh, I am allergic to kids ever since my cousin puked on my new shirt when I was 10 or 11 years old. (I still blackmail him about it sometimes). I do hold my nephews and nieces sometimes on our family dinners when their mothers are busy, but I prefer kitchen duties to be honest (except washing dishes..not a chance).
About having three kids in different institutions, not necessarily. My parents had us in 11 years. With gaps of 2, 1, 5, 2 years respectively, with me being the youngest. By the time I came around, my eldest siblings could take care of me most of the time. Very little was required of my mother by the time I was 8. Which was lucky because by then she had her sick father to take care of.

Nowadays it's rare for people to have more than three. Most everyone stops at 2, even though they start early. But that's an economy thing.
My parents had 5, but their generation was different.
You made the right decision though. Personally I believe 2 are enough. 3 at most, as we have to think about our planet.

Regen, have you watched the film "9"? There are almost no humans in it, so it's not a fair comparison, but I think it captured a dark atmosphere quite well. When I read "Dead beat" I imagined it taking place in a similar setting. I think you'll like it.

That would be number 8, Regen :D
@Dina: 3 children don't justify a pattern. My grandmother used to chastise my uncle's wife for stopping after 4. (As the above joke hints, Egyptian mothers in law are horrible) :D

Huh.. Elina, I'll make a note of that. Although by that time, Elayne would be available once more, so maybe Elayne the Second.
I'll stick with the ELN for this line though. We'll see about Heidi and Hamida.
LOL, the pedigree thing reminded me of my grandparents on my mother's side, where all Boys had names that started with M like their father, and all girls had names that started with R like their mother. And trust me, there were enough of them to justify me using the word "All" :D

Haha, that was a funny sketch :D
Well, 11 years ago I was reading The Wheel of Time when my first cow gave birth (brown and white Holstein), so I named the calf after Elayne, the princess of Andor. 4 years later, Elayne gave birth to her first female (Black and white Holstein) while I was reading about Eleanor of Aquitaine. After that coincidence, I decided to name every first born female of the line with something that has E, L, N. So it's Elena Daughter of Eleanor, daughter of Elayne, first of her name. :D
Elena's firstborn female will be Elen. I haven't decided about Ellen's firstborn, but I still have 3-5 years to figure it out. Heidi will give birth in 4 months though. I'll consider Elvira. Elsa only reminds me of Frozen.
Edit : your sketch reminded me of a joke, where a man was telling his friend that his mother in law had died. The friend says : my condolences man. How did she die?
Man : she fell from the balcony.
Friend : damn, tough go, she must have broken all her Bones.
man: well, she fell into the swimming pool.
friend: so she drowned?
man: no, there was a naked wire in the pool.
friend: she got electrocuted! how awful.
man: well, there was a storm and the power was out.. Also the life guard saved her.
Friend : So how the hell did she die then?
man: I gave up the fancy solutions and just stabbed the bitch.

But I think the tingle only comes if there is significant power present.. I bet if Harry shook hands with Butters in Dead Beat there would be no tingle either, yet under Harry's instructions he could draw a chalk circle, and it had the power to protect him from zombies as he sat in it.  It goes along with the warnings about screwing around with the occult, vanilla humans following a recipe can call up some dangerous beings, like demons and Outsiders, no magical talent needed.
According to Harry, all vanilla mortals can do the circle thing. They can also call outsiders with a ritual (cult of porn star actresses?) only one of them had power, but they all took turns preforming it. Lidia (?) in grave peril only had Cassandra's Tears and she still tingled when they shook hands.

Even if she didn't offer her hand then, she was naked when she scratched him all over in the laundry room when they got kidnapped. No tingle.
