That would only work if you kept your hands inside the circle, wouldn't it?  Reaching for the steering wheel would break it, either by your hands crossing the line or the wheel doing it.

Maybe what is needed is a bleed-off... like those static strips that used to be attached to the backs of cars.  But instead of grounding the car for static, it connects to a strap around the wizard's waist and and grounds him for magic.

While leaving an almighty trail of energy to follow, of course....

I highly recommend the second edition.
As do I.  A definite improvement on the first.

My game finally started, and so has the "actual play" thread.

Protagonist Press Presents...

I literally started each character in the middle of their own adventure, in media res, without any explanation at all, and then me and the player worked out a few things as we went before they got 'scooped'.

Next time, people will meet up!  Honest!

I had an idea... for a madman.

He starts off as Joe Schmoe but with a little undiscovered magical talent.  But then some awful thing happens: his family is killed in some horrific way by some generic (or plot-significant) nasties.  His mind snaps - and he begins to live out a fantasy life, lost in his madness, righting wrongs and fighting evil, backed up by his magic which is being used unconsciously.  Maybe he thinks he's a paladin, or a heroic knight errant, or a mystical warrior of the Far East; whatever works.

Basically inspired by Robin Williams' character in the movie The Fisher King.

Sounds like an idea I came up with for the Angel RPG.  A guy with a demon bound into a torso-covering tattoo that gave him the strength to fight the nasties... but which was slowly working away at his mind and conscience like his own personal dark side...

Both together make for an (unsurprisingly) excellent explanation, it's true :)

I'd love it if you'd come back here and start a new thread about your experiences with the game. :)  (In fact, I may split off this part of this thread into another...)

That sounds like a good idea.  I'll be doing an Actual Play thread on RPGnet in any case...  I'll link to that as well.

The group consists of: a lawyer who also investigates crimes; an academic genius who's main job is being a brain surgeon; a bare-knuckles fighter who gets "caught up" in fighting gangsters; a pilot with an amazing seaplane who is trying to unravel a global conspiracy; and big, strong guy who hunts for antiques and artefacts.

Some of the "guest starring" appearances were very hard to work out!  Most of them ended "...and then there's a fight!"

Hmmm... I think I'll start listening to these then.  Starting at the first and so on.

Text on a screen is harder to "read" than a person with facial expressions, even with a ;) to help it along, it's true.

Fred, you are funderful.

Are you insulting me by complimenting iago and, by extension, his terse responses to my questions incased in a comparatively long-winded post which, by implication, means that you find mockery in my writing style?

I think that was a viable joke, but a lack of a sense of humor makes me doubtful.

Just expressing my happiness with Fred's inclusion of those elements. It sounds like fun, and for doing so Fred is wonderful. Ergo: Funderful.

Also, I was thinking about a Futurama episode where Bender was trying to figure out which word would destroy the world if he said it. ^.^

I understand your intentions, and believe me when I say that I took offense only in jest, unless of course your Futurama reference is intended to apply one of Bender's most frequently used terms to me (i.e calling me an a**).

You might be being overly sensitive.... but politely, which is good :D

Re-reading SF made me remember something. Beneath all that armor of snark and cynicism, Harry has a heart like a pile of sleeping kittens -- soft and sweet with sharp little teeth and claws.

A fantastically accurate description :)

I wish a friend of mine would give me my Storm Front back, so I can read the books again... while looking out for good quotes ;)

And Nemo, von Bek, congratulations. I think I woke my neighbors up choking on my water. Some things you expect on an RPG board; Eddie Izzard and UK jokes are not among them. Top form, y'all!

We do try.  Or maybe we're trying... very trying...  ;D
