*resurrects old thread so she can post*

I finished too and 'won'  51k+ but again story not finished, since that's just a novella size really.  One day when I have a lot more free time, I will finish it and polish it up enough for people to read it.  lol Hopefully before the next Nano starts :p

Is it possible to activate/switch on the option to 'show unread posts' or 'unread replies to your posts' its a useful feature that I use a lot on other boards and miss it :(

Sorry, dont want to use this as a web sales front lol

Just offering services if anyone is interested in having a banner. Some people I'm sure couldnt care less about them but other people enjoy having them, so help is offered.

Hewhowalksbehind, if you give me some ideas I'll see what I can come up with for you.

yeah 'laws' sound a bit rigid, guidelines sounds better, or even if you posted the mailing list guidelines somewhere for people joining?

hmmm strange.  I will give it further thought.

If you offer the option to point to an external avatar eg on photobucket or imageshack then it wont be using your bandwidth:)

Site Suggestions & Support / Re: Spoiler Code?
« on: June 01, 2006, 11:02:39 PM »
Actually, I would say it would be  simpler for all concerned, in terms of having to check fewer subforums, if there were a spoiler tag. Now, if this forum implementation doesn't have one, no big deal, but if it's an option somewhere, it would be cool to turn it on. UnMod.org's new forums just added them, for instance, and they look quite nice. Basically, they create a button you have to click on for the text inside the spoiler to appear.

This software does have a mod for spoiler tags, I use it on my own forum.

I'll go even more dirt simple for you.

Post spoilers in the spoilers forums.

:)

The only problem with this method is with how you view the posts.  For example if you are just going to a specific board/threads, then you will avoid the thread called 'xxxxx spoiler'  BUT if you are using the 'view the last 10 posts on the forum' link or if you switch on the 'view unread posts' option, then all the posts will be displayed whether they are spoilers or not.

Well you can always turn off the post count in some off topic areas if you worry about people posting rubbish to increase post count, or set a minimum word/character limit, or stick to the default post limits set by this software.

But some people do pay a lot of attention to their post count, and any of the above measures might be unpopular.  On some other boards it really is encouraged to post more even if you have nothing to say lol  Some boards even start up clubs for postwhores, but really why would you bother?  Nobody really wants to scroll through pages of meaningless posts to get to the good stuff lol

btw Senior council sounds very cool  :)

Site Suggestions & Support / Banner Shop ?
« on: June 01, 2006, 10:27:15 PM »
Hello

I am a maker of signature banners and also have a banner shop on my own website where we have several people who make banners for signatures, both for members of our site and members of other sites.  We make all kinds of banners, also custom requests, animated banners, glittery banners etc

Would it be acceptable to either invite members to our site shop or open a shop here?

Or more importantly would anyone be interested in such a thing?  lol  :-*

Site Suggestions & Support / Suggestions from an SMF old hand

Hi there

Here are my suggestions:

I would like to suggest some general rules of the forum should be implemented.

Also for those having problems finding their way around and 'how to do things' maybe some general info sticky topic.

You can also find some basic info in the 'HELP' button on the navigation bar across the top of the board :)

Hello, I have an smf forum (my 3rd actually) are you sure you have changed the right settings in the Admin panel for members or perhaps for individual groups?  If you are the admin then test if you can upload since the admin should be able to do everything, if it not a problem for admins, then I would say it could be as I suggested above.

If you want more help let me know :)

As a maker of signature banners *grin* I would like to say that 'normal' avatar size is 100x100 pixels as you can see on this board now.  'Normal' banner sizes for this type of forum is usually anything up to 500 x125 pixels.  You should also think about setting a file size limit as well as a dimension limit :)  Or decide if you want to allow any animated banners or not

This software is my favourite - you can set maximum sizes for images, enable options for avatars to be uploaded or linked, and set a max size for avatars so that if someone uploads a larger one, then it automatically resizes.  Also the signature text is limited already which you can see in your profile.

whatever the forum admins decide is fine by me :)

Just trying to help :D
