DF Spoilers / Re: Any news on Peace Talks

Is it normal for it to take this long to announce a publication date? The book was supposedly finished July 22... It is now over 3 months later...

Per this video, James Marsters has agreed to do the audiobook for Peace talks. That tells me that the print release date must be fairly close, as you wouldn't set up the base for the audiobook before the book was ready to print.

Last post on this was about 3 weeks ago. I'm presuming that the early chapters needed some work because of the time lapse between start and finish.

Has anyone gotten any hints about where the manuscript is in the revision/editing process?

Paranet Papers offers the most conclusive canon story of the Red Courts origins and rise to power.

So the oirginal Lord of Outer Night were vampires/sorcerers who fed on Old Gods thereby gaining their power.

I think the author has conflated the Inca with the Aztec. While the Inca worshipped their Kings as gods, they didn't preform human sacrifice. They were also thousands of miles away. Substitute Aztec and the explanation makes sense.

Part of me thinks that Harry would refuse to be the Blacksraff, he was so mad when he found out what Eb had done as part of his duties, I don't think he'd want any part of it.

He would also have a conflict of interest. The blackstaff is (most likely) Mother Winter's cane. Harry taking possession of it would (presumably) force him to return it to Mother Winter.

Reading this thread made me think about Scalzi's novella "The Dispatcher". If you haven't read it, the main conceit is that you CAN'T kill someone. If you shoot someone in the head, they will wake up in their bed the next morning as if nothing happened.

The only way to actually get kill someone is to put them in a place where they will slowly die of hunger or thirst. That way when they come back they will be on the verge of dying anyway.

This sort of arrangement would not technically violate the use of magic clause, as in the example of walling some one up using magic. You didn't kill them, thirst did. You just made sure they couldn't get out.

I have seen recipes for wine made from all sorts of odd items (beet wine anyone?) I've never seen one for watermelon. I don't think there's enough sugar to make a stable wine. It would also be rather flat tasting if you could produce it because watermelon doesn't have a lot of other flavors to it besides sweet.

Just as an FYI, for everyone here, plus Jim.
Here is an essay that Charles Stross wrote on his own problems with writing very long book series

Yeah, I don't know too much about diamonds. I'm not sure how you move them quietly, like, at all.

The center of the diamond trade is in Amsterdam, and increasingly Mumbai (or Kolikat - I get the two confused).
You'd need a middleman in either city as the dealers in both cities are a small group known to each other. Harry couldn't just walk up to one with a pocketful and get anywhere. That being said, because the groups are small and close knit the sales are handshake deals, no written contracts.

Given the breadth of the White council and Harry's connections with Binder and Anna Valmont, he would probably be able to find contacts in both cities. Moving a few at at time, he shouldn't have too much problem selling them. He also wouldn't get retail pricing. He'd be more likely to get maybe 20 cents on the dollar value resale.

Locus Magazine listed Peace Talks as having a May 2019 release date. This isn't gospel, just based on the publisher's printing schedule.
Update December 6th. An updated version of the publishers schedule through September 2019 no longer has Peace Talks listed.

You can't shape or throw heat.
That's not exactly true. Magnetic fields can shape plasma (fire is low energy plasma) Superheated gasses and liquids can be thrown. Fire is just the most common form.
Similarly when Harry uses "Infriga" he's moving heat out of an object/area. In one case (White Night?) Where he drew heat from Lake Michigan and used it to fry (I'm blanking on whom)

I've seen wood fired hot tubs for sale. Obtaining a wood fired water heater shouldn't be difficult.

I've been enjoying the Laundry books by Charles Stross, where magic is a function of higher math, and if you discover one of the functions that can summon one of the outsiders (he doesn't call them that) the folks from the Laundry show up and make you a job offer you (literally) can't refuse.

For what it's worth, Locus Magazine's web page just updated their forthcoming books page. Peace Talks is listed as being scheduled for a May 2019 release.

This isn't the first time it's been listed. Perhaps someone close to Jim or the Beta-readers can throw us a clue as to how close to being finished he really is.

All 5 items, and the three nails (although, historically it should be four) were in contact with Jesus near the time of his death.
4 nails would make sense, one for each of the swords and one for the "Spear of Destiny" which also contains one of the nails from the cross bound to it.
