DF Spoilers / Re: Any news on Peace Talks

Just as an FYI, for everyone here, plus Jim.
Here is an essay that Charles Stross wrote on his own problems with writing very long book series

Yeah, I don't know too much about diamonds. I'm not sure how you move them quietly, like, at all.

The center of the diamond trade is in Amsterdam, and increasingly Mumbai (or Kolikat - I get the two confused).
You'd need a middleman in either city as the dealers in both cities are a small group known to each other. Harry couldn't just walk up to one with a pocketful and get anywhere. That being said, because the groups are small and close knit the sales are handshake deals, no written contracts.

Given the breadth of the White council and Harry's connections with Binder and Anna Valmont, he would probably be able to find contacts in both cities. Moving a few at at time, he shouldn't have too much problem selling them. He also wouldn't get retail pricing. He'd be more likely to get maybe 20 cents on the dollar value resale.

DF Books / Re: Peace Talks Update
« on: November 28, 2018, 09:04:33 PM »
Locus Magazine listed Peace Talks as having a May 2019 release date. This isn't gospel, just based on the publisher's printing schedule.
Update December 6th. An updated version of the publishers schedule through September 2019 no longer has Peace Talks listed.

You can't shape or throw heat.
That's not exactly true. Magnetic fields can shape plasma (fire is low energy plasma) Superheated gasses and liquids can be thrown. Fire is just the most common form.
Similarly when Harry uses "Infriga" he's moving heat out of an object/area. In one case (White Night?) Where he drew heat from Lake Michigan and used it to fry (I'm blanking on whom)

I've seen wood fired hot tubs for sale. Obtaining a wood fired water heater shouldn't be difficult.

I've been enjoying the Laundry books by Charles Stross, where magic is a function of higher math, and if you discover one of the functions that can summon one of the outsiders (he doesn't call them that) the folks from the Laundry show up and make you a job offer you (literally) can't refuse.

DF Books / Re: The Growing Time Gap in DF Releases

For what it's worth, Locus Magazine's web page just updated their forthcoming books page. Peace Talks is listed as being scheduled for a May 2019 release.

This isn't the first time it's been listed. Perhaps someone close to Jim or the Beta-readers can throw us a clue as to how close to being finished he really is.

All 5 items, and the three nails (although, historically it should be four) were in contact with Jesus near the time of his death.
4 nails would make sense, one for each of the swords and one for the "Spear of Destiny" which also contains one of the nails from the cross bound to it.

Or who loaded the gun for the Red Court and got Harry to pull the trigger on their own assisted suicide?

I've worked from the view that Martin had played the Red Court waiting for some opportunity (e.g. Harry, Susan and Maggie) The spell was WAY overkill.

The other possibility is that Uriel and Mab had a hand in the setup, in order to balance the sheets and demonstrate what happens to folks who dis the Winter Queen.

Considering the amount of distrust the Council has for Harry, naming him Blackstaff (the wizard who can ignore the laws when he sees the need) would ignite a breakdown leading to the likely dissolution of the Council.
Luccio, Ramirez or Chandler would be more politic choices. I agree that Lucio would be the most likely choice.

If you're looking for a big noise that without much damage that can be made from chemicals found in most school chemistry labs, look up the prep for Nitrogen triiodide. It's made from crystaline iodine and high concentration ammonia. It's been the naughty schoolboy's friend for a long time. Jerry Pournelle made reference to making some in the 1930s.

Fir, For and Fur. Word (at least) won't complain if you substitute one for either of the others.

I'm not being clear because I don't know the correct terminology for what I'm seeing, so I'll just give some examples of what I'm trying to decipher.

I have 1 yellow square below my member name. I assumed that was a decimal code abbreviation for the number of posts (1 for 1 to 100, 2 for 100 to 1000 etc) but then I noticed that Ms. Duck has over 17,000 posts but only 3 squares. I was also wondering about the colors of squares, and why some folks have a paper icon by their post title, and others have what looks like a phone or radio.

I figured there was some kind of guide to what means what, and I was just too dim to find it.

Is there a guide somewhere to what all of the different icons indicate? Some are labeled, some aren't.
