FWIW, 59 --> 60 is an increase in chapters of about 1.5%
If it wasn't "getting long" at ch.59, I don't see that it's doing so at ch.60

You are of course correct it was already long.  After all if 42 can express life the universe and everything then nothing should take 60 chapters.   

As of April 25th, 2019, the current draft of the novel is up to chapter 60.  Now it really is getting long. 

As of April 4th, 2019, the current draft of the novel is up to chapter 56. 

I must say wow the book is getting long and Jim is really knocking out chapters lately. 

Yeah, but he didn't arrange anything to stop her being tortured either, and you would think that it would be part of the Knights' job to interfere with stuff like that.

One additional thing to keep in mind it is always possible TWG allowed this to happen even if normally TWG would have had the Knights prevent it.  The archive has always been neutral.  Ivy now most likely hates the Denarians  and likes Harry even more.  She might now be more likely to do something to oppose the Denarians in the future that would push the boundaries of being neutral.  Allowing her to be taken but making sure she was rescued before taking a coin could have just been using the Denarians plan against them.  The Knights themselves would never do that because they do not know the future but a being who does might see that letting her be taking was the better long term plan.

In fact I think this is likely the answer to the original post too.  If the long term view from TWG is that having them locked up is better because it prevents things TWG does not want to happen then the Knights would be sent to do something other then try to save the people holding the coins.  If that Denarian is not going to be a problem then they probably would be sent to give the holder one more chance to save themselves.  The knights themselves have to always act one way because they have no idea what will happen going forward.  The missions they are given however are based on much more information so to us could seem inconsistent because we do not know the future.

I had always assumed Nic was talking about TWG but I must say the idea it could have been Nemesis does make a lot of sense.  Nic certainly seems more worried about the traitors in his own people then anything else so he could easily be more focused on Nemesis as the enemy at the moment. That idea also lines up better with his so often saying in the past that he and Dresden could be on the same side.   

As of March 7th, 2019, the current draft of the novel is up to chapter 48.  Now if only we knew how many chapters it will be.

The problem for the beta readers is that they have to keep secrets. If Peace talks was published as a serial, like a lot of books used to be in the past, we could discuss every chapter here and reread them in all detail. It would be a lot of fun.

That really would be amazing!  Though I would not want to force those kinds of deadlines that the serials in the past had.  If a chapter needs a few extra days to be right I am OK with that.   I think Stephan King tried something semi like that at one point with just asking people to pay. I do not remember the details however as I have never been a huge fan of reading horror.   Though I did really enjoy the movie based on Misery.
