DF Spoilers / Re: The fae slaves

In CD, Sarissa tells Harry that she has a mental illness and part of her deal with Mab was helping her cope. Since Maeve was her twin, she may have also started out with that same problem.

DF Spoilers / Re: Why couldn’t Boniea talk to Harry?
« on: January 11, 2023, 11:16:14 PM »
Just a thought also, when Alfred first spoke to Harry, it caused him pain. Bonea was causing Harry's headaches. Maybe that was her trying to talk to Harry but lacking the proper frequency.

Mab knew this but says nothing because she wanted a lever to manipulate Harry. Alfred just doesn't think about these things unless Harry asks. Harry asked how to get Bonea out, not how to communicate. It took a meeting with Id-Harry to introduce her as something other than "the Parasite". Until then Harry didn't know Bonea was potentially a friendly.

Alfred can barely communicate with Harry at that point in the story. And she could communicate in a limited way with Id-Harry, just not his conscious mind.

Most likely, she didn't know how. She was still developing. Her ability to help keep Harry alive was probably only possible with step-by-step instructions from Mab and Alfred.

DF Spoilers / Re: Why EVERYONE is ok with a wardenless demonreach
« on: January 04, 2023, 10:14:12 PM »
There was a better candidate to be the Warden than LA Fortier. If they were looking for integrity and power, Morgan should have been given the post. If McCoy can be the Blackstaff without being a Senior Council member, then the Warden could have been Morgan. Perhaps that would have led to fewer executions and more imprisonments among the marginal warlocks.

The Island. Not the beings. We heard that Edinburgh is also a nexus. Chichen Itza. I think they look at the lines like settlers may have once seen a waterfall. Hey, there's a place I can build a mill! Water power will grind my grain! Steel towns popped up around coal. We know the stones of the buildings have power infused - Merlin likely tapped the Well. Maybe they STILL tap the Well for power. Maybe Merlin harnessed that power to create Alfred... maybe it powers Alfred, and that is why he needs to stay near/on the island.

The Lines draw the building of the Wizard HQ, or Demonreach. Or Itza. The prisoners don't generate them.

We also hear from Bob in Cold Days that the waste heat of the prisoners is what powers the ley lines. No prisoners, no energy. The ley lines are also coming from the middle of a body of water which would normally disperse the magic. Merlin probably set them up to bleed off excess power or the pent-up power would have exploded by now.

DF Spoilers / Re: Does Marcone have Little Chicago?

Date/accuracy of Googlemaps is problematic.
Harry needs current data.

And with post-BG rebuilding as an ongoing project for city/state/fed & private owners, Harry would need to update LC on a daily basis...

If that were true it would be pointless to even have begun the construction of LC in the first place. At the time of construction Harry didn't have the time or resources to update LC weekly, if he had to do it daily to keep it functional that would be his full-time job. Google Maps or an equivalent would be the starting template but after that you only need to track construction and demolition of large scale not every time someone builds a new fence or deck.

DF Spoilers / Re: How was “the Well” on Demonreach filled with inmates?
« on: December 30, 2022, 09:24:55 PM »
We saw how difficult it was to get Ethniu into the Well.  We saw how difficult it was for Harry to fight Shagnasty… how did the inmates on Demonreach get there?  Who put them there?  When did they get there?

I suspect we'll never know unless Jim decides to do "History of the Wardens and White Council" series. Demonreach is an interesting story element but one that raises more questions than answers.

Yeah, you don't need to do much on the research side now that Harry can use Bob to access the internet. Just what you can get Google Maps is pretty thorough.

DF Spoilers / Re: Easy defense against the Eye

If someone powerful enough to use the EYE is after me, the last thing I'd want to do is trap myself in a circle. I can see having them on a prepared escape or ambush route though I doubt you'd have the time or the power to make one capable of withstanding a blast.

Reconstruction takes time and changes minute by minute as things are built and torn down... They just finished building a huge house next door, you could take a picture of it one hour, but it wouldn't be the same the next hour.  Other things burn and get torn down, in truth Little Chicago was never really practical because a city is dynamic and never static..

The city was changing in those ways when Harry made LC the first time around. Marcone probably has people in some way involved with over 90% of the construction going on. He could easily keep it more up to date than Harry. Google Maps does it in the real world and they keep making updates year round.

The attunement factor could be a problem at first. But most magic items in the Dresdenverse seem to be something that any person with the will and skill can master eventually. Marcone may not start at 100% but he could work his way there.

Harry made Little Chicago by gathering all the components from all over the city on his own. Marcone has hundreds of people to take pictures and gather materials and has the head start of Harry's work to build off. Yes, there was a great deal of destruction but 60-70% of the city is still there and Marcone would be able to get a full picture of the damaged areas much sooner.

DF Spoilers / Re: The return of Agent “Slim” Tilly
« on: December 25, 2022, 04:14:57 PM »
I actually think Detective Bradley is a better candidate to become a recurring character than Tilly especially if Rudolph can get him sent to SSI. He wouldn't have to be hostile, and they could become friends off the job thru being single fathers.

We know that Harry's basement survived total destruction in the fire but did Little Chicago survive? If it did the FBI could have moved it or Marcone could have taken it. Namshiel would be able to fix it and Marcone couldn't fail to see how useful a tool it was. He'd get more use from it than Harry. He may have moved it during the castle's construction and not moved it back.

Well, Eb was still in surgery when they made those decisions and then recovery, he may not have the orders yet.

Good point about not having the orders. Eb and LTW would certainly have been against the expulsion order and may even decline to accept any further orders. I doubt they would do it publicly, but they may tell the Merlin to pound sand in a Senior Council meeting.
