I dont see why it cant deal stress, since stress isn't permanent to begin with. Physical stress is described as bruises, cuts, scrapes, that sort of thing. Nothing serious. I think it should deal 2 points of physical stress, enough to take out people unless they are willing to take consequences. I think however, that the consequences should end at the end of a scene, no matter how serious they be.

I like it, it seems like they should be able to use the power they gain from feeding in magic, maybe make up a stunt that lets them do it.

DFRPG / Re: Evocation: Combining Attacks and Manuvers?
« on: April 21, 2010, 09:20:01 AM »
Yes, however only channeled the fire up because there was so much heat energy that releasing it near the boat would've been dangerous. Theoretically he could've lobbed it at the other boat.

Thats my point, I think in some cases it should be possible to pull a strong attack and a maneuver at the same time. Id do it by excess of how the effect of the Evocation.

Lets say I call up 6 shifts of power from the environment and I roll 10 to control. The hit lands dealing 11 Shifts of stress, more than enough to knock out my target, by a margin of 5. It should be safe to take off that 5 and apply it towards the maneuver you wanted to place (sort of like being super controlled about where you drew that energy from). Then ice forms on a whole zone, and it'll last for about 3 exchanges. Putting the aspect (Icy Footing) on that zone.

How would you model something like, drawing in allot heat from the area, which causes ice to form on the ground, in order to cast a fire evocation? Harry did something similar in one of the books right?

Say a demon breaks into your house and you are forced to use the circle in your basement lab for protection (AKA, I dont want to be eaten by a demon), you'll have to use a fate point to invoke the scene aspect (Summoning Circle in my Basement).

If you are casting a ritual summoning, its a component of the spell, no fate points spent.

Ive made some adjustments. The Lorica of Peace, I havent figured out exactly how its going to be ruled, being able to enchant something that already has armor SHOULD be possible without having to ignore the base armor, maybe I can use it as sort of an armor discount (ala Item of Powers Refresh Discount). Furthermore, for the purposes of crafting enchanted items, he can work at Lore +8 (+1 from Soulfire as I mentioned above, the Item of Power gives a +1 to Lore for crafting, and his specialization in Crafting Strength).

The extra refinement was a leftover from some earlier version, and Ive corrected that (thats why the enchanted item slots were at 12).

As for the focus items, I was thinking about it, I was actually thinking of making a broken sword (Hilt and a few inches of jagged metal) as a focus for his Sword of Heavens Rote (and that spell only, giving it +2 Control & Power)

I had a similar idea, only using a crafting specialist wizard who has access to Soulfire (Its supposed to be awesome for Creation, and so Ive ruled that it gives you a +1 to Crafting Strength as well, the item of Power listed gives +1 to Lore for the purpose of Crafting)

Here is what I have so far.

"Cain" Tubal Cain

High Aspect: "Put your Heart and Soul into your Craft"
Trouble: "I Guess God Thinks I'm Abel/Able"
Other Aspects: Shock and Awe, I Carry a Big Sword, A World of White or Black, Modern Day Saint, Avenging Angel

Rank   Skills
(+5)   Lore
(+4)   Conviction, Discipline, Endurance
(+3)   Weapons, Alertness, Athletics
(+2)   Presence, Intimidate, Stealth
(+1)   Investigation, Contacts, Resources

Cost   Powers and Stunts
 -3      Thaumaturgy
 -3      Evocation (Spirit, Earth, Fire)
 -1      The Sight
 -0      Soulgaze
 -3      Soulfire
+2      Item of Power (Medallion of Saint Clement)(Discount on Soulfire)
-1      Refinement (4x Enchanted Item Slots)(Via Item of Power)

Specializations:

+1 Spirit Control
+1 Crafting Strength

Rote Spells:

Sword of the Heavens
This spell uses the power of Soulfire to forge a blade with the Spirit of the caster.
Type: Thaumaturgy, Conjuration
Complexity: 4 Shifts
Duration: One Scene, could be longer (until the Sun rises), but its supposed to be something you call from nothingness not have on you at all times.
Effect: This conjures a blade of pure spirit from the creator's soul. It is made of soulfire, and is thus a very powerful weapon indeed. It satisfies any Catch requiring a Holy source of stress, and it ignores one rank of toughness (From Mythic to Supernatural, from Supernatural to Inhuman, and so on).
Description: Motes of Light gather in a pillar growing out of the casters closed fist, becoming solid and more real. The motes flare a searingly white light, and a chime of metal issues forth from the newly created blade. (I have to say that killing with this should *not* trigger the first law. It merely creates an item, what that Item is used for is up to the wielder, plus, he might need to dispense some holy justice on some warlocks)

The Earth Shall Tremble
The ground begins to shake as Cain walks towards his enemies.
Type: Earth Evocation
Power: 4 Shifts
Duration: 2 Exchanges
Effect: The ground shakes at the rising of Cain's anger, this gives him a +3 Bonus to Intimidate for 2 Exchanges.

Plus Others I haven't thought of yet.

Enchanted Items: (12 Slots Open)

Circlet of Hyper-Awareness (+6 Block, 4 Uses, 2 Slots)
Lorica of Peace (Mundane Armor: 2, +3 more Armor, 4 Uses, 3 Slots)
Cloak of Feathers (4 Strength Veil, 4 Exchanges, 3 Uses, 2 Slots. 6 Strength Escape, 4 Uses, 2 Slots.)
Liquid Courage (Stimulant Potion, 4 Uses, 1 Slot)
Healing Salve (Based off of Reiki Healing Spell, 2 Uses, 2 Slots)

Ok I need some help here people. I am looking for a good high concept name for a thief from a lower class background that enjoys the finer things in life and pretends to be from a much higher social class. I feel like there is a word for pretending to be from a higher social class but i can't think of what it is.

DFRPG / Re: Damaging and Destroying Foci

Being unable to use your rote spells I think is worth more than a Severe Consequence. Most aspects you get aren't going to change the way work magic, they just allow your enemies to tag the aspect for a bonus on their rolls. Being unable to use rote spells that rely on your focus though, being forced to rely on random chance for even your most basic of spells. That really rocks the boat.

DFRPG / Damaging and Destroying Foci

Damaging and Destroying Foci

Sometimes a practitioner will channel so much raw power through their foci that it becomes damaged, or destroyed all together. These rules are aimed at pinning down how that happens.

When a practitioner takes backlash stress from channeling power in excess of his discipline, a common practice is to take a physical consequence. By channeling a portion of that backlash into the focus he may downgrade the physical consequence he takes by one step per Focus Slot the Focus has. Unlike most consequences, the consequences to a Foci does not heal over time. An effort must be made by the player to repair the damage. Otherwise you may loose part of the benefit offered by a Foci, like Harry's damage shield bracelet in Dead Beat. A focus that has lost the benefit of all Slots through consequences is destroyed.

For Example:

Harry Dresden is being chased by a big, big, nasty ghoul. He has a Conviction score of 5, and a Discipline score of 3. He decides he is going to call up one huge fire evocation, he has a fire specialization, and he has a Blasting Rod that gives him +1 Fire Control. He pulls in 13 Shifts of power, 7 over his modified average for a fire evocation. This fills in his 3rd and 4th slots on his Mental Stress bar. Next Harry rolls his Discipline. He rolls a +3, making his control for this spell 7. He doesn't have many fate points left, but he invokes his aspect of Not So Subtle, Still Quick to Anger. Now his roll is 9, 4 points off his Goal. He only has a Mild Physical Consequence left to tap, which he does. Two backlash left, and Harry decided to channel them through his blasting rod, inflicting a Mild Physical Consequence on it (which applies the Fire Offensive Control Broken aspect to it, canceling its bonus, and since that is all the focus does, it is broken). He manages to control it all, and he hits the ghoul for an INSANE FUEGO, cutting it in half at the waist. Sadly though, his Blasting Rod burnt to a cinder, and now he has to craft a new one.

What do you guys think?
