I honestly had the opposite reaction when I read the gruff story. I was like, okay, Jim made something up. Then uh...I got to the part where Harry looks it up. Was pretty funny when I realized what he was talking about. The weirder thing for me is how my readings of the books have changed. I was 14 when Changes came out. I don't have kids, but I have a few more years under my belt and a serious relationship down the drain and everything that happens leading up to the ending of that book is just different now.

Is he as infamous outside the US as he is in the US? Controversial is about the most polite word I could think of to describe McCarthy. :P

Another is Blacklisted By History: Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies by journalist M Stanton Evans, which is a tome.
Does it paint McCarthy in a positive light? Because that is a...controversial position, to put it delicately.

I don't think any of those things are true but I do suspect

Yeah I can see that.

Well, if you will go to Reddit, best be prepared for madness and salt.
Most of the subs I frequent are pretty good about that, honestly, but yeah I'm not sure what I expected.

Honestly, I liked PT. My biggest problem was all the random things people were raging about on the subreddit. Especially about

The US response was not the best. It's one of those things where I feel like things should have been different, but I can't really do anything about it other than follow the CDC guidelines on social distancing and all that.

They were never not allowed, as far as I know.

My weekend was pretty good. Went to a wedding of two good friends on the 4th. Loved it. Love them. My only regret is that I didn't ask the groom's sister to dance. :P

Sending you all the good energy.
Is it that bad, even in pandaemia?
I would make the argument that it's probably worse because of the pandemic, not in spite of it.

Hi New Weird. May God help me through these next couple of days at work. Retail around holidays is more stressful than any amount of schooling I've ever been through.

I tried explaining to my coworkers that I'm wearing a mask but not gloves because the number of times I would have to switch gloves to make it an effective way to stop spreading germs makes it a dumb idea, but I don't think they got it. I also have people complaining at me that I'm not wearing a mask when I don't, which doesn't really seem like it's any of their business, but oh well.

I overheard one of the managers at the store I work at today saying that during the panic buying at the grocery store, there were $700,000 in sales...in six days. That's beyond insane. That's practically an entire year's worth of sales in less than a week.

I was super pumped to see the announcement of two books this year. I can't wait for Peace Talks.

Hi Regen, exactly the same happened here. Too many people going to the beach (in other cities, Buenos Aires has a river but not beach) or gathering at the parks, for instance. And then, a few special stupid cases.
1) a man (let's call him A)  in a province received word of an ex-flame (B)  who basically wanted to cheat on her husband with A. B lived in another province, and the two of them met at her house. Then B told A that she has arrived from Spain a few days ago...and that she was feeling a little ill. A did not care and they do..well, all. But then is when it gets crazy. A decided to get back to his province, where his friends invited him to a bbq party. He went and jokingly commented about his "adventure". People reacted logically, denounced it to the authorities and the whole town (aprox. 2500 people) went in quarantine since a few days ago. Now A and B are confirmed positive to COVID.

2) an Argentinian man in Uruguay was in observation for Covid, in a hospital. He escaped and took a boat (around 400 people) back home. The Uruguays discovered that he escaped and warned our authorities before the boat arrived here. So now the 400 people are in quarantine here (they allowed them to arrive and isolated them in several hotels specially for them)
To quote the late great Spongebob Squarepants, that is...advanced stupid.

I'd rather have the overreaction to the virus. Ultimately, it will be a lot easier in the future to tone down prevention measures rather than deal with triage situations like Italy and Spain because they didn't take it seriously enough. If the measures already in place work, it'll look like an overreaction when we look back because it worked, y'know?

Fcrate has it right, Dina. Discord is a more text-based version of teamspeak. And you don't have to pay for the server, which is a nice bonus. :P
