Jim and Shannon will be Guests of Honor at MarsCon 2011
Williamsburg, VA
January 14-16th, 2011
http://www.marscon.net/
Jim and Shannon will be special guests at NorWesCon
SeaTac, WA
April 21-24, 2011
Details at http://www.norwescon.org/
He is considering attending San Diego Comic Con, but that has not been confirmed.
Go HERE (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,26082.0.html) to see Jim's signing tour!
-
According to Shannon, these two events are the only conventions Jim is currently slated as attending this year. He may do San Diego Comic Con, also, but that hasn't been confirmed at this stage.
We'll announce Jim's signing tour as soon as the information is available.

Priscellie, Thank you very much for the 2011 thread. :)

Maaaaan way to keep a guy in suspense. I'm finally earning enough money with enough free time to attend ComicCon for the first time ever this year, and it'd make my everything if Jim were there on top of everything else.

Hopefully we'll have more to announce soon.
-
Another big appearance is almost confirmed. Hopefully, I'll be able to post something in the next week or so.
-
Tidied up the thread. Remember, all pleas for Jim to visit [insert name of city here] go to the Where would YOU like Jim to appear? (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,22134.0.html) thread.

Here's to hoping Jim stays safe on his trip to Missouri. I have relatives there, and the swath of destruction being done by tornadoes right now is terrifying, considering I'll be visiting in August. :'(

He lives in Missouri, near Kansas City. The St. Louis area (where the recent tornadoes hit) is on the opposite side of the state.
I'm sure the tornadoes will no longer be an issue by August.

Can't really tell Mama Nature how she should behave, but thanks for the vote of confidence.

Hey Priscillie, just a FYI, did you know that the KC, MO release party isn't on the Calendar? I went to look up the date and time and it's all blank.

As it's part of the "tour," I'm not posting it until I have the full tour list. I assumed at the time that the full tour list would be forthcoming shortly after that one signing notice slipped out, but that wasn't the case. :D

Ah. OK, that makes more sense now. I hope they'll be releasing the full schedule soon. It's getting to be that time of year if Jim's not coming to St Louis I need to start saving for a trip to KC. That is a lot of gas. >.<

*Gives Wizard H the hairy eyeball*
You think that's a lot of gas? I'm seriously considering coming down to KC from Minneapolis if he doesn't come any closer!
Now that's a lot of gas.

Now let's not start comparing, or I'll have to tell you how my driving out to Columbia MO from NJ was MORE gas. ;D It's all relative - if you're cash-strapped, a few extra hours' driving IS a lot of gas.

Exactly. I live very check to check so it would be a big deal for me to have to go to the other side of the state. Anyone who can go the kind of distance you guys have for it has my respect that must have taken a hell of a lot of foresight.

Yeah, either that or we're just dumbasses who can't be bothered to manage our money or plan for retirement.
Didn't mean to dis ya' Wiz. (I really just wanted to post something on this thread so I'd get updates ;D)
And, yes, Sheckmeister, NJ to MO would be still more. I bow to your superior parsimony! ;)

The KC event is on my calendar! Hubby and kids have been told they'll be missing me that week.
Pris - is there a particular contact for the event? If I'm reading correctly, the event is the evening of release day, and I'd like to see if we can get our books in advance... no way I could wait for it! :D
-
Unity Temple is a really nice place for a book signing. I saw Bruce Campbell there and the set up is great for it. Lots of seating, a good PA system and Rainy Day is great at getting the signing lines to move in a smooth manner.
And Bookie, the last time I went to one you could pick the books up a little before the start, but not much. They just take the books to the place and hand them out with admission. The store's number is (913) 384-3126 and they are very nice about customer service.

Does he ever do signings outside the US cause England to America - that's a lot of gas ;)
... and a huge carbon footprint... and a holiday I really can't afford!

Can we get separate threads for these two dates so that we can start planning who is going to be where and when? I would, but it seems you can't add new topics to the calendar discussion threads.

Damnit Anyanka, you got in ahead of me (and on my first post too!!).
What really grips me is I was in Williamsburg on business the week after Jim was there in Jan and I only just realised!
Anyhoo, same question, does Jim tour outside CONUS? If not, would he be ammenable to a benevolent kidnapping by his Brit fanbase...?

I was planning on adding all the tour dates to the calendar at once, but as I still don't have them, I went ahead and added the release party (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,25985.0.html). Not sure what the second date you're referring to is.

Jim doesn't travel well, so it's unlikely he'll be crossing any ponds. He went to a con in Canada a while back, but I think that's as adventurous as he plans on being.

Hopefully people keep posting videos of Jim appearances on youtube for the world to enjoy

Och well, I'll just have to try and schedule another work-related outing at a more convenient date.
Starting to see why Harry really doesn't like getting on a plane now though ;)

Having been gently advised to be careful not to upset Jim following other (genuinely) threatening messages I'd like to state, for the record that I have absolutely no intention of ever kidnapping/harming/fondling or otherwise inconveniencing him. Whilst I am a fan, I am not a psycho (though I acknowledge a certain quirky sense of humour... perhaps I should have posted more before allowing that to spill into my writings).
For any inconvenience or upset I may have caused, I most sincerely apologise.

We could theoretically have Shannon give him a sedative (or get Mickey Finn in on it - ha, I made with the pun!) and put him on a train, but that won't get him overseas. And Shannon would have to keep cleaning up the drool.
-
Any word as to whether Jim and Shannon will be making it to Dragon*Con again this year?

They will not be, alas. Jim tends not to do the big cons two years in a row.
-
Deeply saddened by lack of any western states...would have traveled a ways to see him...why not leave the eastern time zone?

Because he never entered the eastern time zone for his last several tours? He tries to visit a different region of the country each year.
-
Makes sense...still sad :'(
-
I know this is just repeating but no west coast dates 100% sure, I just want to tripple check before pre ordering the book.

Correct. It's possible he may attend San Diego Comic Con, but other than that, he will not be visiting the west coast for the Ghost Story signing tour.

*relieved sigh* I just read this thread from the beginning (:o) and I can go to the book signing in NYC!!!! Woot!!! ;D

You cosplaying or just coming as Priscellie (which is usually a pretty nifty costume anyway :D )?

Haven't decided yet.

was someone going early to save some spots in line? I will be coming right out of work likely, but even still that won't get me into the city until 4:30-5 pm and then I have to get down to Tribeca. I would leave early from work, but I have to save my time for the following week as I have a prior commitment in Alaska. ;D
-
When is the San Diego Comic Con? I've been looking for an excuse to spend a weekend there.

I believe Matt and Shecky are arriving earlyish. I should arrive around 5.

Tickets sold out months ago, I'm afraid. It's July 20th through 24th.
-
okay cool then I can phone folks to update as needed. EXCELLENT <hand steeple>
-
Yeah, not sure yet how early "earlyish" is going to be. If I can bank some comp time, it could vary depending on how much comp time I can accrue. Otherwise, I'll probably take a half day off of work, so I'd get there around 2:30 (earlier if traffic/trains cooperate).
-

Ah, well. I can only afford to get up to Atlanta about every other year, myself. By the next time Jim makes it to Dragon*Con, he should have at least two more books out to be signed. :)
-
Goin' to the VA signing, yeah! Dinner anyone? :)
-

July 21st-24th. However, tickets sold out within hours back in... February?
I think a few do pop up closer to July (they did last year) but don't hold your breath. Here's the website:
http://www.comic-con.org/cci/
I suggest you sign up to e-mail alert/Twitter if you're really interested in going. Of course, those tickets might be sold out. I haven't been following. (It is something that can be loaded into an iGoogle home page, which is how I keep up to date.)
Just found this article (http://sdccsurvivalguide.com/#!/entry/892) from the SDCC survival guide. It suggests tickets might still be put up in late June/early July.
I'm going, but I was lucky that I didn't work on the sign up day. I know that alone took up an hour of my time.
-
They will not be, alas. Jim tends not to do the big cons two years in a row.
Ah well... **Marks his calendar to check again next year**
Nevermind my request in the other thread then. =)
-
Hi, uh, this might not be the right place to ask, but what's the policy of bringing a book to the signings? Like, do you have to purchase a copy there at that time to qualify or can you bring your own?

Most places want you to buy one at the store you are attending. In the Signing tour thread, I pasted the link below, several won't let you have anything signed without the purchase there.
Which were you thinking of attending?

The one in Tribeca, NY. I plan on buying the book from B&N anyway, but I should probably call them and ask if a receipt would be enough of a validation. Thank you!

Glad to :) Yeah, I don't see why they wouldn't allow it if you bought it from them, just at an earlier date. As Priscellie didn't mention anything about having to buy it there, you may be safe anyway. Good luck and ask something cool!

So we've got a whole bunch of nothing scheduled for the next couple months?

I really hope Jim takes some well-deserved time off with his family and just relaxes!

As long as he gets some LARPing in there as well. ;D
-
I'm hopeful that he might have some free time to surf the Internet and post on some quality message boards. :D *coughcough* ;)
-
Well, we are having a Birthday party here in KC for Harry. Maybe his publicist (Jim) and his lovely wife will come. I'll be sure to get them an invitation.
-
That would be fun! I know Amtrak goes from where I live to St. Louis, then straight over to KC. I'm just not sure of the costs. (You'd think given all the government subsidies they get, they could have cheap ticket prices to encourage ridership)
-
I'll be letting everyone know details as they become available.
Shecky suggested a BBQ place he visited when he was here last.
Maybe Union Station.
It's definitly on Monday, October 31.
