DF Spoilers / Re: Harry's paralysis long term foreshadowing?

Well, I thought that might shake up things.
I meant that if Chauncey has connections in Hell. And Mab probably has ties to those movers and shakers in Hell. Then, nothing is really out of the realm of possibility.

Also, as far as foreshadowing. Harry recovered from death in Arctis Tor for weeks. Once Mab started trying to murder him daily for a set numbers of days, 60-70-ish. That seems innocuous yet vaguely important, the number of days, or the progress he made in that time. Of course, as a final product after that "training" could never compare to what he'd have managed to train up to on his own. Death is the great motivator. There were only a few examples given to us as what types of encounters he faced. But I would assume that Mab what throw seemingly random death at him, that wasn't really random at all. Events coordinated to force him to use this magic over that, to use brains over brawn, to use environment over skills. Harry is now on a level that I believe he absolutely could not achieve on his own.
All because of a deal. I think that another deal may come up.
Fae love games and bargains. Who's to say Mab won't be offered a deal that's too sweet to pass up? The trade however would be giving up her knight? Harry's already an "indentured servant", and historically indentured servants contracts were purchased en masse in some cases.
I'd love to see Odin buy out Mab's hold on Harry. Have Harry swear fealty to Odin. Or even have Odin nullify the deal altogether, just to have Harry owe him one. Or even Chauncey come back and trade Harry with Hitler... Thoughts?

DF Spoilers / Re: Altered Carbon - Could Netflix do Dresden?
« on: February 10, 2018, 10:27:59 PM »
most shows barely have 3 seasons before people start losing interest (and risk losing budgets)

I agree to a point. But I differ on some things. Mainly the budget part. I have pitched a UF series to Netflix and Amazon about 2 years ago. Went as far as the presentation package, but it didn't/hasn't panned out.
But Netflix was my first choice because of budget and audience collection.
I read and then was told that once Netflix commits to an original series, they really commit.
Networks have to pay for their content with commercials, so then those sponsors have a say in what gets aired.
Netflix is all in house. They pay for their own stuff. There are a few FX houses and movie making resources that get contracted out, but Netflix foots 100% of the bill.
I LOVE THAT! They aren't beholden to any firm or brand. I was told (also you can tell) that some of their series took seasons before they found their audience, before any real interest or attention was given.
Netflix has ALL the money they saved during their DVD days, and then streaming, before they broke into making their own content.
If they chose DF as a series, they could make 2-3 or even 4 seasons and wait patiently on the viewers to come to them.
On the other hand Fox cancelled Firefly in a half a season, and Drive in 2 episodes.
DF home should be Netflix hands down.

...I had forgotten that. And after that is checked off, he calls in a favor from Mab that was possibly blocked before by RCV? Maybe the break-in was also on this check list? That would suck and be completely par for the course if Harry was inadvertently helping the nickelheads achieve their goals. the Charlie Brown of urban fantasy indeed..

Well, Back to the future part 2 did almost the same thing. trying to repair a decision that split into 2 futures. and the agents from 1 future were cleaning up the mess from the other.
But an evil Harry who (I would think) wouldn't care nearly as much for the rules of magic, would go back in time for no telling what, and cause no telling how much collateral damage.
The ending to Bioshock Infinite comes to mind. (along with many repeat storylines. Edge of tomorrow, groundhog day, ARQ on Netflix((AMAZING EXAMPLE))) with all the plot happening because the higher level of comprehension isn't there until, like the quote from Half Life "the right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world."
All it would take is one change to alter things back towards the right path.

well I agree but for a different reason. Yes, he has said, it was Mab, Lash, or kemmler. But only as far as the options that had the power to help him, not because those were the ones that had beef with RCV.

DF Spoilers / Re: Will Harry learn to switch masks? if so when?
« on: February 06, 2018, 03:14:37 AM »
That is a nice angle. And it seems he might have already done that to a point without realizing it, just by being him. When he realized he still had free will over Mab, and told her he would carry out orders exactly. That was Harry talking, putting the Mantle mask aside. The same as his birthday party in winter, when he killed those Fae. It wasn't so much the WK, but Harry Dresden utilizing the power of the Mantle without putting on the mask. Also, I remember a tiny bit from Fix, books ago, when he warned Harry about the leaf, Titania had given him. That was Fix, putting aside the mask and forcing through the Mantle's gag to warn Harry, when the Summer Knight would never have. Harry of course has power over Lashiel in a way as well, knowing her more than anyone alive that is still free of the coins. Even if he doesn't realize he has that power.

I did post this in another thread, but still seems relevant here as well. Let's call one of the GC as a member of the Denarius. We, of course, don't know the extent of the Denarius' plans or even all of their enemies. Who's to say they didn't have a reason to get back at the Red Court? And of course the theory I floated in the other thread.

DF Spoilers / Re: Could Maggie have taken up a Coin?

That would make the family tree start with very twisted roots. Although it would shine an interesting light on changes at that point, with at least one of the coin holders threatened with the blood curse along with Harry. As well as giving at least 1 coin holder as a possible member of the grey council. Just to hedge bets against dying. That would be very weird for Harry to see a grey cloak fall open at the wrong angle and a noose show just a little...

I could see that. Our Harry will eventually break the time law. And hilarity will ensue. We have to assume that if there was a split decision, and the alternate Harry in that bubble still thinks along the same lines, just with a more pessimistic view, we must also assume that this altHarry will break the time law as well. Possibly even more if he's taken out those who would come after him for it. (WC) So the propagation of his alt-ness would ripple even into the past that presumably both worlds shared. And by shared I don't mean interacting, just that they were they same until that split.
Though, the theories about Cowl being Harry fit better if he's the altHarry.

Yes, that can still be very interesting. But of course, just like the news, something has to be covered. A slow news day will give coverage to the lesser issues, or even things that need not have coverage getting exposure.
So if the White Council were not to have all their resources being occupied, and diminished by a war. What would they be concentrating on? Their attention would be focused on something... what is it?
