DFRPG / Re: items usable by others?

Agrred.
But the way to such an aspect would be more or less the same. Take an item without power (object) and invest time and a slot. Everything else additional, be it an aspect or compels by the GM, ist a matter of the story...

This seems to be a very pragmatic solution. No hoarding of items by the character (or anybody else).
This way, an item (focus or enchanted) simply becomes an object in the hands of those who have retrieved them - some kind of souvenir  ;D
Then, how about "recharging" such an object? The new owner could give the object one of his slots, invest the time (like with a new item) and can use it. The GM could rule that recharging of such an ex-item would oly work if the old powers are replicated exactly, thus giving the characters something to research. And the recharged item could still hold the imprint of the old owner, thus giving GM and players lots of oppurtunities to compels and great roleplaying.

I like the fate pint idea. So, if one of the characters reetrieve an item from someone else, he could use it (for a scene?) by spending a fate point - compels inclusive... ;)
This discussion brought me to another question: What happens with an item when the owner dies? As the rules state, an item used by others still uses the item slot of the owner. So, the item is still attuned with it's maker. In case of a stolen item, the owner could simply clear the item slot and what happens then? Would the attunement with the item be disrupted and the magic of the item destroyed?

To wrap up someone a werespider should have caught him in a web like normal spiders do. So first I would give the spider the ability to build a web. Have to look at the rules how to do that... ::)

DFRPG / Re: Banking Character Gen Skill Points?
« on: July 26, 2011, 05:14:42 PM »
One benefit I could think of is that he is essentially storing power for a large push once the skill level cap is lifted if and when the GM allows it at a major milestone. He could be in essense be building a skill tower instead of a skill pyramid (as I understand it, DFRPG allows a skill tower instead of forcing a skill pyramid unlike other FATE games).

In this case, I would simply not allow the lifting of the skill cap...

I don's see the benefit of it, but if one of my players want to do it that way, why not...? He would probably spend the points anyway halfway to the next milestone... ;)

DFRPG / Re: Balancing of Powers

Nearly in every roleplaying game I know, speed is more important than strength, especially when it is enhanced beyond "normal" capacity. And as nicholas wrote, Athletics is a by far more versatile skill than Might, so as in a scene where a supernatural strong character can use his power, it would certainly look very impressive, but another character with supernatural speed would have ten more scenes for everyone like that where his speed is much mor useful, just not as impressive.

DFRPG / Re: Illusion magic
« on: July 26, 2011, 09:51:07 AM »
I am not a rule expert, but in my opinion it is much more difficult to cast such e spell. Not only do you have to build 5 moving veils, but they at least have to look like exact replicas of the original, they have to behave and shoot like him. If they can be identified to easily as illusions, then opponents can ignore them totally and concentrate on the real target.
So, I don't see this happening as an evocation...

I would think that changing a relevant amount of water into gasoline would take too much shifts to be done with evocation...

I like your comments, Redthorn and Farbot... ;)

by the way: I didn't start this thread because I want my players to be able to mindread and by no means I wanted to discuss if it is dangerous - it is! But I think every rule has his exceptions, even for the White Council and volunteering along with a very good cause could be one in my opinion. That doesn't make it any easier or less dangerous. I do, however, think that such a good and plausible cause would result in getting the character no Lawbreaker power. At least, if the results are not too much devastating...

I thought of leylines, too. Also of a BIG cavern system where the bahkauv could dwell (and many other creatures, too). What to make exactly (rulewise) with the different creatures I have to decide when I have finished both books (YS and OW). But I would gratefully take any advice I could get, especially if someone has visited Aachen... ;D

O.K.,... forgotten should not mean they have vanished, sorry for the misunderstanding. "Forgotten" means that there were a lot of wells and as they were not used anymore, they were covered to build streets and such like. You can assess any of them even now, but in the live of Aachen's inhabitants they have no role anymore, so most of them don't care abiout them and don't even know where to find them. There is an initiative in Aachen to cartograph them all, but it's work in progress. There is even a legend about the Bahkauv (http://www.aachen-markt.de/sagen/bahkauv_ba.htm, sorry also only in german) living in one of the lairs built by the hot water of the sulfuric wells. That's the beginning of a great story, I think... ;D
