DFRPG / Re: mindreading with a volunteer?

Seriously, I don't get you.
As mind reading is not possible in our world, I certainly cannot understand what it means. As for this, I can discuss the consequences of mindreading for the (read: my!) game.
In the game (rulebook), two things are clear: First, mindreading is forbidden by the third law and second, mindreading is dangerous for both the reader and the "victim", be it a volunteer or not. Dangerous, however, does not mean "automatic" consequences, so  it would be interesting if there are ways to limit the dangers associated with mindreading.

And, last thing: mind reading is game breaking? uhh?

I think nearly every place in europe has a ton of fitting history and legends for the dresdenverse. Maybe we should collect them in a special thread... ;)

As Aachen goes: It has about 250.000 inhabitants. That should be large enough. Better even that, it has some sulfur-wells which were used a century ago but are since this time covered and nearly forgotten... 8)

I simply thought about some scenes where it could be very important to get some informations where the one having these informations doesn't remember everything in detail and is willing to take the risk. "Informed consent" is the keyword, however. At least, when the White Counsil will take a look at it later...
What the White Council could do to discover such volunteered mindreadings? They simply find some out-of-their-mind people...

Could there be done anything to avoid the traces in one other's mind? Or could there be different levels of mindreading?

I found many interesting things about Aachen. While not exactly the Ruhrgebiet, it is close enough to it to  start with and is really interesting as a former roman settlement and imperial city of Karl the Great. And lots of legends, too... :)

Could be a very good idea. In Germany, we have the "Ruhrgebiet", which is the largest area of settlements in europe. Actually, there must be dozens of cities directly bordering to the next without even the slightest gap.
This, however would mean a LOT of work...

the most interesting thing about most european cities (for me) are that they are so old and have so much history. So i want to take one of these old cities. For geographic features, I have to take a deeper look at some maps, so the history part and the size should be the first step for me... or should I go a different path?

Why not introducing a npc who tells them about the council and the laws?

Hi,
I'm planning to GM a group and for this, I'm loking for a good place to play.
As there are many very convenient cites in Germany who could be a nice place, most of them aren't very big. So I asked myself if there should be a minimum size (or number of inhabiltants) for a city to us it for a campaign?

DFRPG / mindreading with a volunteer?
« on: July 24, 2011, 06:50:06 PM »
Hi,
a question came to my mind when I read through the laws of the white council: Is a mindreading a breaking og the third law, if the person whose mind ist read agrees to this?

my simple answer: because it is consistent with the character. I always give this answer ( ;)), but especially in  the HDRPG because of the way ist is played. When e player stucks to his stora and his character, he will find the answer what to take pretty easily.

By the way: I thought about playing with a group in Dresden myself (what better place in a dresdenfiles-rpg...? ;D). Maybe you want to share some ideas here..?

Just keep in mind that anything "blocked" can be used to break the block but even successfully breaking the block ends up with a reduced action (action is reduced by the strength of the block).

Uh? Can I have an example for that...?

Good point. It might even be possible that someone with great powers could literally ignore the block (like the loup-garou in the example in the rules...)

Your third example isn't exactly my definition of "ignoring" but who said ignoring a bullet is easy...? ::) So the character at least tried... ;D

Thank's for the clarification! Still, I could think of a couple of situations where a failed contest against a block could lead to infuries (stress). Alternatively, failing to oppose a block could put an aspect an a character. Maybe that's more in line with the overall philosophy of the system.

In the case of rolling against a block I would interpret it as an opposed roll. If the blocker succeeds, the block stands firm and if the opponent succeeds, the block breaks.
And if I got you right, if the block is an attack, after rolling against the block you can still defend against the shifts? That would be two rolls against one attack. I would prefer to roll against the block and any shifts gained by the blocker would be stress (with additional stress when weapons are used).
For the example with bullet curtain, I'm not sure I got it...
