Just tossing this out, but can we have a chat for touchy topics? not in the main link, but a private link? Not public? Sign up to join in?

Board stays clean, chat is private, and well, I can have more fun again? :)

It is when you look for info - 404 is the return code error for missing pages. 500 errors are missing database or bad data calls.

And it's not a smart solution, it's a basic one to beat the script kiddies. But thanx.

I changed my member form to require a 123 entered, and that stopped the bots. if I see a lot of attempted posts to my forum, I'm going to just alter the names of the forms used in membering and submitting. They can then just eat 404 .

Shecky just seemed like the responsible type and a good example of a hypothetical candidate for the hypothetical position...

Some folks might not agree with that. I admit I sounded snarky with what I got slapped for, but I didn't know how to state it better.

Being able to change back from a nickname to your (real name) would be nice.

As for thread drift, that /will/ be a huge problem in a room with opinions in real time. People are people, they get into a chat and they /talk/ . Much to the detriment of folks that might not want to listen to it.

Having shecky as a mod would definitely be an advantage if you wanted to silence the forums.

Gallagher has a simple solution to what I perceive to be the actual problem.

He wanted dart guns with darts and red flags. The concept was if enough people with their one shot against someone broke a limit, then the person driving with all the darts and flags would be puled over and ticketed.

If you want a board that stays pablum fun, then just institute a complaint ceiling. More mods have not, and won't be an answer (as evidenced by the "policing problem"). Ya'll know what you want your board to do, so just buckle that sword in that Lea fashioned sword hilt, and start hacking heads.

And yes, I fully understand I'm in the crossfire for the snicker-snack of the vorpal blade.

You know what you want to see and what you will tolerate . Just cut to the chase and do it.

Asking a question - and I think the answers are fair.

iago, there's a query to the db that pulls the the info, add a column to the table that query that stores a bit, add a checkbox to the page that pulls the query that people can store a value in. Alter the query to pull only records that aren't tagged in the checkbox that tags the bit. It will cut down on bandwidth, and will speed the board up.

Or they learn that some sections are closed off to them because any opinion might be "challenged" in ways they might not be comfortable with. Some folks (me included) need an "off button" or a "water Spray" to the face occasionally.

So for me at least - spoilers is off limits.

If you answer yes or no, the way the sentence is laid out, it could mean Yes to both, or no to both - So I'll wait till that's sorted...

I can set up an emergency bypass on my site. I can rig up a snitz forum , and wouldn't mind paying a few bucks a year for a URL to point at it.

Heck, if you're using a db that you can export to, I can always export the posts in the down time to a file, and the threads could be added back to your forum.

I host on Crystaltech, not sure if they do PHP .

Lemme know. If you're contemplating , give me an idea of transfer so I can see how much of a buffer zone I have on my plan. I think I'm somewhere near 400 gigs free and clear a month over my needs.
