So as the tin says, we are converting our existing DFRPG characters to DFA. Most of it is pretty easy, but one of our characters is really throwing me a curve ball. He is Focused Practitioner with the focus being Rituals:Crafting, ie the one that doesn't have any other magic abilities than crafting potions and magic items. How would you approach converting this one to DFA?

DFRPG / Looking for ideas for the grande finale.
« on: August 19, 2015, 05:22:52 PM »
Ok, the story I'm running is coming to an end soon and I due the improvised nature of the game, I've run myself into a bit of a cul de sac. Soo.. let's see if I can generate  some extra ideas for the grande finale with these parameters:

The big bad of the story is spiritmancer, with a plan to create a necropolis which she can rule over. We are the the point where her next step is poisoning lots of the city population with a specially made drug. My players have been investigating of course, but don't yet know who is behind the events, or why. They already had a showdown with a vampire who was working for the big bad, so I'm trying to think something else than just an attack to the Evil HQ.

Some open questions are:

  • What sort of clues could I feed to my players without going all deus ex machina (they can be sometimes a bit oblivious)?
  • What would make an interesting finale, other than the classical Meet Evil & Fight Until She Dies?
  • How would a strong spiritmancer defend herself, or what kind of defences in general (like wards etc)?
  • What sort of novel applications for spiritmancy are there?

Thanks in advance!

Other than high morals, what stops wizards and other magic users concoct some magic-infused get rich schemes?

DFRPG / NeverNever story seeds
« on: July 02, 2013, 11:11:50 AM »
In our next session I'm going to introduce the NeverNever to my group. I already have the MacGuffin: Ur-Magpie steals magical Faberge egg that the players just acquired and escapes back to NN. Now I'm looking for some interesting elements that I could incorporate to this story.. something/someone that helps or hinders them, some cool locations or anything to flesh out the NN really. Mind you that we are not familiar with the original books.

DFRPG / Newbies ask the darnest things
« on: June 12, 2013, 01:22:21 PM »
We finally have some sessions of DFRPG under our belt (I'm GMing), there's already a bunch of situations that could use some expert POV. So I was wondering instead of having X number of threads for each of these, I'll put them all under the same topic. Other newbies can participate as well of course and maybe this can be the "sticky" thread for this sort of simple/single issues/questions at some point.

DFRPG / Mundane and the supernatural
« on: May 27, 2013, 02:35:04 PM »
I'm not familiar with the novels, so forgive me if this is silly question. But how does the mundane world stand in regards the supernatural? Are most of the people totally clueless? What if they see someone (ie the PCs) doing magic, how do they react? What about government entities? This is something that the rulebooks doesn't really cover toomuch (or if they do, please do point me to the right page)..

DFRPG / Newbie GM looking for PC-related advice
« on: March 14, 2013, 10:42:37 AM »
I have a few character-related issues boggling my mind at the moment. I'm also a complete DFRPG newbie (but seasoned veteran otherwise).

1) One of my player wants to do a focused practitioner focused on crafting magic items. Basically having Rituals:Crafting as the only magical skill (we are playing up to your waist, mind). Based on my reading of the rules, this is not really possible as he could only craft items that help you.. well, craft items. This of course sounds logical as I think one should have the magic knowledge for the type of items/potions he's trying to craft. But then again I'm not keen on thwarting the character idea completely as there's good bit of backstory invented before I started thinking about the mechanics. I think if he takes Channeling as well, then he could craft items based on a particular element/strand of magic. Am I correct so far?

I was also considering bending the rules a bit and suggesting that he could have a thaumaturgy skill only, making him a sort of a broken/half-made wizard-in-training (fits the backstory too), but let me know if this is a bad idea (other than bending the rules from the go).

2) Another character is a were-creature, a were-crow to be more precise. This is luckily more straight forward, but one thing doesn't sit well with me: the rules suggest that he should pick for example wings and diminutive size as powers for the were raven. But then again the beast change power already changes you to a bird, which is a small, flying creature (= diminutive with wings). To me this feels like you have to pay twice (or thrice) for this particular creature. I already house ruled that beast change covers the wings and size issue, but let me know if I have misunderstood something.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Site Suggestions & Support / how to use the search
« on: January 31, 2013, 05:35:17 PM »
new user here.. I'm interested in all the vast resources of the DFRPG section, but the search function seems to be quite useless. Or I might just fail at interwebs... (not the first time). Is there a way to see more than 25 results for example?
