DF Spoilers / Re: Kumori's Identity (Spoilers)
« on: December 28, 2017, 01:40:00 AM »
You know, one of the biggest problems or at least one of the issues for my "Marcone is Harry and Murphy's son theory" is the durability of Marcone's birth in multiple alternate realities.  They'd require that both Harry and Murphy survive in many different realities.  And, that they have some relationship where they get it on and conceive of Marcone.  And that, in some fashion involving time travel, Marcone is placed in a contemporary timeline of his parents.  The Dresdenverse would then further allow for 'safe' paradoxes, contradictions that arise from event interactions between out of linear sequence actions made by father, son, mother.  We do know though that Marcone and Harry often directly impact life/death of the other.  Marcone even mentions poking Fate in the eye I think in Dead Beat when he helps save Harry from Corpsetaker after Gard had mentioned it was Harry's fate to die that day.

This theory about Marcone being descended from both Harry and Murphy has some but limited circumstantial evidence but it mainly exists as an artisticly desired plot point on my part.

As to the splinters, time loops, and divergent timelines, I think they can all be included in the Dresdenverse.
1) There is free will choice that causes changes in the timeline.  Much evidence in the form of WOJ and spoilers about Mirror Mirror support this idea.
2) We know it takes lots of juice to change particular things per conservation of history in Cold Days, so that is the mechanism where stable time loops or an unbroken timeline would occur.
3) Again from Vadderung, we have evidence that suggest time travel can cause splintered timelines that arise from free willed choices with time travel in the mix.  AKA, Harry goes back in time to kill his grandfather.  This is time travel, check.  This is free willed choice, check.  This is paradox if Harry is successful, check.  Then a branch at that moment spins off with his grandfather dying off right then and there so who knows what that branch looks like.  We however do know mostly what the branch looks like where he is unsuccessful in killing off his grandfather. There might be some alterations though with his grandfather learning about his grandson coming back in time to off him and subsequent effects (feedback) of this knowledge may have back up the branch.  There would like be some time loop'ish equation going on until a steady state equation would be reached.

this, this is just stupid. I think people have come up with more theories and placed them in this forum then JB has written total books. This is just flat out dumb. After reading this the forums need to die.

This is exactly the sort of comment which is unacceptable on this forum.   Read the Precepts.  We may be short before the shut down, but that is no excuse for rude behavior.

Possibly the plan is to wait until the last novel has been written, so as to cover everything that will need updating?

Something that would be worth doing, at least by fans, would be writing up local monsters and cities for the dresdenverse; frex I could do up the bunyips as a fun critter for OZ.
so probably in about 15 years, considering the current rate JB gets his books out these days

Its a good power simply to prevent discovery. Crimes and be committed and so long as you not caught in the act their is no way to trace them back with magic. Breaking and entering gathering information in possible hostile situations its worth 1 or 2 refresh. Any shapechanging is a powerful ability whether with actual change or even just illusion. Humans(us) relay so heavily on our vision.

i will keep going over them i am hoping to be able to combine the two if possible using the best of both. I really like the normal game. I may have not been the target market still i have to own everything harry dresden

this is were the game and the rules differ. In the game we have enough refresh to avoid becoming the monster. But in the series once the white court innocent feeds they choose to be a monster and there is no going back. As for the only exception in the series thomas is a monster who pretends that he is not. When push came to shove he fed till he killed. Humans can still choose monsters cant. The knight who gave his life for Harry is an example of why humans have choice and monsters don't. Which is kind of the premise of the entire story and the rules of magic. I don't think thomas can ever wield the sword as it was meant to be. He's not human.

i just got it myself, not sure what to make of it yet. From what i've read so far it is not at all compatible with the original. I am not sure what to think of it and why it was needed.

there is the one player made ability called improved wards that would allow you to cast it without a threshold

I just take it with a grain of salt.  When I read fantasy based on Greek Mythology, I don't assume the author is trying to force polytheistic concepts down my throat. I just assume that that's the way the Universe works.  I just finished reading Percy Jackson with my son and there's no assumption that there's a monotheistic god and I don't really feel there should be.

It's fantasy afterall.
this how i work it, its supposed to be fun.

Wanderer ever try ars magicka the church plays a huge role in that game and it is by far the best magic system i have ever come across

DFRPG / Re: Generalist magical specializations

i don't care much for the pyramid the other issue is you really don't need any thing except one element anyway they all do the same thing. Block, attack its all a matter of how you describe it you might as well simply have the skill called magic not try to increase the elements at all. Just describe the way the spell works and be done with it. It would certainly cut down on having to try to boost all your area of specialization. hummm i might try that.

DFRPG / Re: Characters with Swift Transition

Its not even a hard ritual to cast, any wizard can do it and with the right knowledge-read lore. They will be able to connect where they are to where they want to be more reliably. The mechanics of the game make it so. The theme of the game makes it difficult or i should say wants it to be difficult but it isn't mechanically and the players know this and any attempt to make it other will appear hamfisted. So use it for travel have a few quick stories to remind players it can be dangerous. its the closest thing dresdenverse gets to teleportation

I really love the idea of a story based on world travel. AH the work might be way too involved but man would it be fun.

in all sincerity your issue isnt with the game you have a hate for Christianity and or anything that might resemble it however remotely. Unfortunately for you the writer of the books used some of these concepts in his books and they have been transmitted to the game. Its an easy fix just ignore the rules no need for all the anger.

one of the things i have done is remove the magic skills from the tree. if you treat them differently you can have a lower skill cap and still have strong characters.
