Title: Summer Court's NN
Post by: wardenferry419 on November 07, 2017, 11:07:29 PM
Have we ever seen any of Titania's areas of the NeverNever?

Not that I'm aware of.  The closest I think we've seen was in Summer Kinght, Aurora's court.

I hope we get a look at Summer's domain. I would love to see how it contrasts to Winter (beyond the obvious hot/cold aspect).

I expect something like Lea's garden linked to Harry's apartment or a rain forest.

I really think that Winter gets a bad rap for being cruel, mean, evil. Summer is also about survival of the fittest (IMO) and the dominance of the strong, just in a brighter, sunshiney way. I would like Harry to visit the Summer portion of the NN and first see the beauty and life of it, but realize there is an undercurrent of menace.

And don't forget what Harry was told about the rampant growth that Summer aids.  If it's not checked Other things can grow too, like Ebola and the like.

Its honestly one of the more frustrating things in the series for me. All the characters jump on the evil winter train and think Summer is all rainbows and unicorns. We saw Titania almost lose herself to her passion in an emotional outburst and burn Harry to ash. Like Rasins said we've had the rampant growth aspect of Summer mentioned in the series. There is the fact that in nature it is about the strongest surviving at the expense of the weaker. I'm just waiting for the characters to realize that maybe Winter is not all bad and Summer is not all good. I prefer Winter's logic personally. They won't stab you in the back until it is warranted.

Gotta remember that it's all from Harry's perspective and he's only had interaction with Winter (mostly).  He's never been at odds with Summer, until Cold Days that is.

I'm not counting Summer Knight as he was just learning about the courts at that point so wasn't really paying attention to those kinds of things.

Warm and passionate or cold and calculating, both can be a problem with the wrong frame of mind.

I agree. I'm just waiting for the characters in the Dresdenverse to realize it.

I think part of the reason they don't seem to realize it is because it's from Harry's POV.  I think many do already realize that ALL of the Fae are dangerous.

The Fae have a lawyer mentality and speak in legalese. That will always be a problem for those that can't translate.

Or are too rushed to take care.

Can't cover all the variables that could be used to gain advantage.

You never can.  Especially with the Fae.

I'm pretty sure Harry is in Summer's domain when he and Elaine go to meet the Mothers at the cabin in Summer Knight

No... he's in the Mother's domain.  Not sure it's either Summer or Winter, really.

Mother's domain with a slight Summer slant? I think there is a line from Mother Summer about Mother Winter being weaker at that time due to the seasons. I will see if I can find it.

If you have a million nukes, and I have a million and 1 nukes, does it really make it my domain?  :D

Not necessarily speaking in who's domain it is. More like who has more influence at any one time due to the seasons.
We have this quote from Summer Knight:
Quote
She beamed up at me. "Yes, dear. And this is Mother Winter." She gestured vaguely at the chair by the fire. "Don't be offended if she doesn't get up. It's the wrong season, you know. Hand me that broom."
This seems to indicate that the Mothers wax and wane with the seasons. I am extrapolating that their environment (the cottage) also subtly changes with waxing and waning of the Mothers. The cottage seems Summery in SK with the bread baking and Mother Summer doing some "spring cleaning."

In Cold Days this happens:
Quote
Mother Winter, in her black shawl and hood, bared her iron teeth in a snarl, though it was a silent one. She pointed one crooked, warty finger at the window nearest her, and blackened it with soot again. Then she shuffled over to a chair beneath the window, and settled into the resulting shadow as if it were a comforting blanket. "I do what must be done."

Mother Winter was able to alter the conditions of the cabin to better suit her. The Mother's power changes with the passing of the seasons and I think the cabin reflects that.

I was thinking more in general, but I do see what you are saying.  One has preeminence over the other during their own season.  I can buy that.

I like that description, preeminence due to their season. Aptly sums up that thought.
