DF Spoilers / Re: In defense of the WC
« on: February 18, 2023, 10:41:56 AM »
I was thinking about the Modern day geopolitical situation. And how its just a mess. Naturally i thought about the Dresden files and how it would complicate things
Was thinking about Martha Liberty. She lives in Liberia. She could a former freed slave. And shes 300 years old. Imagine the anger she has. Or she is a native who suffered from the results of the American slaves being brought to Africa. It was not a smooth transition, it got bloody really fast.
From that point LTW is a native American, Eb and the Merlin fought on opposite sides of a war. Imagine the number of people carrying grieves. Africans, asians Europeans its a wonder the WC hasn't torn itself apart.
What ever its faults the WC has held humanity together

It
I doubt that it would be as you describe now that there is a Warden in charge and Alfred can fully engage the island defenses.  It is a maximum security prison, Merlin designed it most likely to secure it from beings a lot more powerful and bad assed than either Eb or LTW..
It doesn't matter how strong Alfred Demonreach is. You have to pay the Man in this case Harry the Warden.
Ltw and Eb know this, Harry himself knows this. And he has used this to beat things and people stronger than him. Open combat does nnot mean fair. On the island, Eb is the key to the fight. If Harry needed to be put down, im sure Eb can talk him down so the other can stab or him in the back

I agree with that, I also think that full array of defenses is known only to Alfred and the warden
Not sure, the warden does. Alferd seems to be able to keep things from harry. Harry realizes this at the end of BG

We aren't sure about Rashid. But according to batman if there is a 1% chance. Im sure the WC uses that type of logic

What Martha meant was, 'he was the chosen one, it was said he would destroy the outsider not join them.
For some reason as soon as i saw the topic that just popped up in my head.
The SC and some of the older gus in the White council know exactly what he was meant to be.
The starborn occur every 2or3 generations. Im sure the journals and other records are full of signs and stories about starborn.

Ancient Mai is depicted as being smart, and old. If itd true that kemmeler was a previous warden of demonreach. The SC might have studied up on the island and knew its capabilities. Harry as powerful has he is still a child by SC standards. Not even a teenager. They may believe they  can take him. Think of the people they sent. Veteran wardens, the blackstaff, and the expect on loci. Sure we are told they are there for Morgan. Plus they weren't aware he was bonded to the island.
They seem to realise what happened pretty quickly. Once harry starts talking

How informed are the SC about the world

In BG when Mab mentions the Outer Gates, he notices that not everyone understands what is happening. He also mentions that the members of the SC seem to get it. When discussing the armor Enthiu is wearing the others looks to them for advice. In PG the Merlin seems to know enough about the swords.

Yes he did. He was offscreen locking down the Never-never to stop the fomor from invading though there.
Ferro did the most in that fight by not fighting. Reality cant take a Dragon going all out. He was  also holding reality together so that everyone else could fight
In my mind when ferro volunteers to go to  the neverever the little guys were thinking coward, while the SC and other heavy hitters were grantful

Exactly
Thomas most likely knew. But EB hatred for Whampires is probably common knowledge.
But to me understanding Eb's reaction to Thomas comes down to this. Imagine harry finding out that Maggie jnr is dating a Ghoul. Then imagine his response. The ghoul and its entire species and the planet will burn

Great list but Merlin is the strongest wizard, rashid the most dangerous and Eb the guy you don't mess with. Not sure how to link a woj the supports this. If anyone has the link.
Lea is probably above eldest gruff but just slightly

You have a point.
Harry is an unreliable narrator, and it's only his word as to the relative rarity of combat-capable wizards.

Most wizards may be much more dangerous than Harry gives them credit for!

As Harry himself said, his attitude is "fuck subtle!"
But those subtler magics may be almost as effective, overall...  And there's a lot more of them.
Being a non combat wizard doesn't mean you cant fight. Think of Ancient Mai she scares everyone but i dont see her as a fighter. She is the type to f u up in other ways. Its implied that that WC also fought the Reds using good old economies. Freezing assets and such. That probably limited the damage the Red court could do by a lot. The Ltw is a healer, Morty is a nerd but those 2 will mess u up. The Merlin isn't much of a fight, so is Mab and Odin( not saying they cant) just that to them fighting is for losers and a last resort. If all else fails then its time to to show you how closely related to grass ur ass is.

But there's quite a bit of protection there, with Papa Raith.  Also, he hasn't yet suffered her Curse, so he's at the very peak of his power, a more dynamic leader with a firmer seat on his throne, than the White Court ruler we all know from the books.

The White Council is all too prone to taking a "wait and see what happens" approach, and I expect the Blackstaff would have been urging inaction (for his own private reasons)...

The problem with having power is knowing when to act and when not to. Act to soon and you can trigger bigger problems.
In the grand scheme of things how strong is the white council. I know everyone thought it was going to win against reds but how strong  do you think it is. In the real world the US can beat any nation but it rarely uses its army. Same with all the major powers cause the other may use the small power to fight as a proxy

I don't buy that at all.  I think it is too significant that Jim wrote a whole short story where Carlos and Molly work together and try to consummate the attraction they had for one another since White Night, and have it all go so terribly wrong.  I think it did more than physical harm to Carlos, and he blames the Winter Court, maybe Fae in general, but certainly anyone connected with the Winter Court for what happened to him.  I think it is very true that neither Molly nor Harry were aware that this would happen if a vanilla human tried to have casual sex with the Winter Lady.  However does Carlos believe that?  In my opinion all through Peace Talks and Battle Ground there was an odor of mistrust on the part of Carlos of Harry.  I have no doubt that someone on the Senior Council is feeding into that.. However I also think that Mab deliberately left out that little rule when she was showing Molly what her duties were, she also neglected to tell Harry. Why?  Because she thinks it is to her advantage for both Harry and Molly to be isolated from the White Council as much as possible.

Yeah. Carlos no longer trusts fae. Carlos trusted Molly saw her has a friend. Sure she was the Winter lady but she was still the same girl to him. How many people know that the mantle can protect it self. And how many are going to share that info. Carlos probably now thinks that the real Molly and harry are dead. And winter is using them as meat suits using them for winter's ends. The real harry and molly buried to deep to stop the fae.  The Black council is probably telling him this.

Mab is a lot of things, monster, defender of reality,  monster, abuser and anything else neccessary to do her job.
Yes, Mab is frightened, she also learns from past mistakes and I think she may feel that the best lessons are learned, the hard way.  In Peace Talks Corb mocks her about her being crying pimply faced young woman crying [I assume when she was still Lady] because her lover dumped her.  Apparently she told her own daughter Maeve about the no sex rule for Winter Ladies, and it made her twisted and vulnerable to infestation by Nemesis.  So perhaps she thought that better for Molly to learn the hard way because it wastes less time.. It is possible that she never considered the other side of the equation, the man in question.  We were all a bit shocked when she suggested that Harry kill Molly if something happened to her.  However we know she had no problem ordering Harry to kill her own daughter.  Actually I still maintain though Murphy may have pulled the trigger, Mab's finger was moving before hand, that she indeed killed her own daughter because she felt it had to be done.  Maybe since the Mantle will flow into the nearest vessel, Mab is willing to gamble that the mantle will flow into a stronger vessel.. Again saving time.
Mab seems to think only the job matters anything else is secondary. In Mabs eyes Molly is too summer to be Queen. Would Molly sacrifice any of her family to protect reality, harry , Margie. The answer is no. She isnt ready until she can do that.

I dunno.. the paranoiacs there might have spies on their spies.....  hard to believe that NONE of the WC knew about Harry. Even Eb? I bet at least some of the seniors knew, or Luccio, as Justin had been a warden. He wasn't a low profile guy in the crowd.

Not sure on that. Harry likely does not give permission, and going in unapproved is a naughty.
I dont think they was a need to check harry cause he never came to the HQ and when he did he never signed a thing. Hence Lucio.
Was having a talk with a friend about the Merlin. Other than the mist fiend and the ward tag team with the gatekeeper has the Merlin done any magic on screen/ on page

Harry's trap for Erlking worked but pissed him off. And dude probably understands why harry did it. And its probably why harry isnt dead. Imagine actually trapping Mab or Titania in a trap eventually they are going to get out. Better a trap that is weak that shows that you just want to talk and aren't dump dumb enough to actually try to trap them
