I believe that he also once used a potion to the same effect.

... but now that I think about it, he's been using less potions lately.  I wonder why that is?

In game terms? He has more permanent items, which are filling up his slots. I mean, in Storm Front he had what, his shield bracelet, blasting rod, and staff? These days he's got those, plus the rings, the coat, even the taser-chain thing he copied from Elaine.

Mundane Stunts.

From playtest stuff we know there's a Linguist stunt for knowing a bunch of extra languages beyond those from Scholarship, and +2 to a skill under specific circumstances is one of the general things Stunts do explicitly. It's pretty much that simple, though appropriate Aspects could help, too.

Isn't there a similar item in Blood Rites where he uses a belt buckle in the shape of a bear (?) to give him a big boost of power?

Yes, there is. It allows him to ignore quite a bit of fatigue and pain for a while, recharging him both magically and physically.

Yeah, missing persons is the standard Dresden Universe explananation, I think it's gone into explicitly in Dead Beat (reference is made to the number of missing persons who are never found being the same proportion of the population that herd animals lose from predators).

Monster kills actually don't tend to wind up listed as murders, for a variety of reasons, from the fact that the bodies are usually either clearly killed by a wild animal, or completely gone in one way or another (either eaten or disposed of somehow) to, in the case of more subtle predators such as the White Court, the fact that they show up as heart failure or something relatively innocuous like that.

I'd advise judging for yourself. The Spirit of the Century SRD can be found here:

http://www.faterpg.com/dl/sotc-srd.html

That's the entire system for SotC, pretty much in it's entirety, and obviously gives a very good rundown of the system (at least as used in that game), read it and judge for yourself. The Dresden Files RPG will obviously use a different system variant, but a lot of things are going to be very similar (a character being made up of Aspects, Skills, and Stunts, for example, as well as the basic system mechanics). It's also an extremely neat and fun game in it's own right.

I would say opening a rift to the nevernever and flat out vanishing before someone's eyes is pretty near it. Calling up winds to come in from different directions, or making a tiny whirlwind. If I saw someone do that I'd be sold.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that, with modern techniques, good stage magicians in real life can duplicate the visual effects of both of those. If I saw them on a random street corner, I might be convinced (a good stage magician wouldn't waste the prep-work necessary for those kinds of things like that), but a fair number of people really wouldn't be.

Still, it's a goal, maybe not an achievable one, but progress could be made towards it.
