(http://butcherblock.libsyn.com/img/podcastIcon.gif) (http://media.libsyn.com/media/butcherblock/BB_001_-_All_About_the_TV_1.mp3)Fred talks all about the TV show and tackles and defuses the "nerdfury" over changes from the books with the help of the man himself, Jim Butcher. Some other TV show chatter slips in here and there, and the show gets rounded out with a quick plug for some games that Fred has worked on in 2006. Roll tape!

Great episode! It was nifty to get Jim's opinions on all the nerdfury (a much better term than "fanwank," I must say) in one handy place, so we can point any potentially new Furious Nerds in that direction and quell their worries in one swift stroke. Jim sounds so excited about the show, and his enthusiasm is infectious!
I loved hearing about your RPG projects. I just finished up a class on fairy tale revision, and Zorceror sounds like something I might want to tell my professor about. She also does a fair share of babysitting, and I wonder if the kids might be interested. You mentioned it was a good game for introducing people to roleplaying... What "rating" would you put on it? It sounds like something people of all ages could get into, but I just wanted to make sure it would still be appropriate for the kidlets. When will the print version be published? I didn't see a date on the website.
Also, Don't Rest Your Head sounds fascinating!
Thanks for the shout-out! At first I was curious as to how you got my last name, but I guess it's associated with my gmail account, yes? Coolness.
Looking forward to episode two!

I'm only a few minutes into it, but upon listening to the promos alone (no video), the bit you quote as Blackthorne sounding like Marsters...I think those lines, unlike the rest of the VOs, may be someone else. There's a different ressonance to the delivery, and it sounds like a professional commercial VO actor, rather than the rest of the Dresden noir VO.
Or it may be Blackthorne, edited in from a different recording session, and that's what I'm picking up. But until I just HEARD it, I dodn't pick up on it. (This is my radio/tv/film degree coming back to haunt me.)
Great show so far, Fred...you've got a gift for hosting.
The only "gripe" I have (besides Daybreak being canceled. I hope it makes DVD) is that the Skype recording sounds bad, next to your normal recording. Anyone else have a possible solution for him? I can toss some moolah into the pot if equipment needs to be bought or long distance paid for ;)

I don't know if my transcripts help with differentiating (sp) between Paul's vo and the 'pro' vo. But feel free to check those to tell who's talking. They're here (http://www.jim-butcher.com/bb/index.php/topic,1248.msg22909.html#msg22909).
I'm off to listen to the podcast now.

Yes! Nerdfury! Much cooler than fanwank.
And... I think Dresden Blackthorne sounds similar to Dresden Marsters too. I don't think it's a VO, but I don't have the Ear of Mickey. Hmm. Are they big and round?
Edit: Fun with capitalization

No, they're more...well, you can see in the picture.
And seeing the words "Slightly kooky" under a picture of Boreanaz as Angel is just...right in so many wrong ways. ;)
-
Nah, that's Blackthorne doing the voiceover. :)
Thanks for all the comments, folks!
And, y'know what? If I was using my own land-line to call Jim, and had the ability to record it, it would have sounded just as bad. Phonecalls just aren't as strong. There's also a mild quality degradation to the sound because I had to do some filtering to mask out some background buzz and chatter that's totally not Skype's fault.
I'm okay with it, ultimately. It gives interviews a different sound-character, which helps provide "sectional identity", as far as I'm concerned. :)

I think there might be 1/2 of a "bad" word in some of the "DVD Comment Track" type bits in an appendix, but otherwise I'd rate the game a solid G. Call it PG to be safe, with the idea that a parent should at least give it a brief flip-through ... but I wouldn't hesitate to put it in the hands of my 8-year-old nephew.
Also, Don't Rest Your Head sounds fascinating!
Thanks! It's a weird little game. I'm still in shock that it turned out to get a bunch of fans.

You'd emailed me a day or so earlier, so yes, I used my dark and clever eye-powers and found you out!
Looking forward to episode two!
Me too, once I figure out what it is!

I see one! Maybe someone stole the other one. Not me, though.

Thank you thank you. :D
It's sort of a suitable phrase for we socially awkward hermit types. ;)
-
Very cool. I love the new podcast!

My other ear is on vacation.
Finally finished it...great show, Fred.
-
I'm still giggling 'cuz Jim likes Robot Chicken.

Great to hear the Susan debates in this episode settled.
Awesome stuff all round in this podcast.
The 1st episode was a nice teaser but if this is the quality we come to expect then I am ALL for it
