The Bar / On the nature of decision making
« on: December 23, 2019, 04:55:09 AM »
For those who were involved in the discussion in the DF Spoilers section in the Peace Talks Update thread, let us continue here.

For those watching or wanting to come in I shall summarize.

We are debating how an intelligence (human or otherwise) makes a choice, and somewhat how an individual shops at the supermarket.

Do you require emotion? Can robots make choices? How do you choose what the best value for money is? Should it be the law that price compared to weight is available on the shelf label or should we all be able to do the math in our heads? What is a good value proposition? And so on.

DF Spoilers / Some interesting things from Death Masks
« on: December 22, 2019, 11:43:15 PM »
1) Ortega calls Harry a self-righteous madman who will "destroy us all". What is he talking about? Harry might be self-righteous and has a few times been accused of being crazy, but how would Harry's actions destroy everyone? My guess is that the Reds don't want the end of the world, they simply want to be on top when it comes. Harry's early start to the war interferes with that plan and perhaps Ortega believes only the Red Court would have the power to control the outcome of the end times - an event or series of event that lots of players seem aware of that is imminent.

2) Martin believed Ortega was trying to delay the full war for another 20 years. It has almost been 20 years by our time, but lets say that Dresden is a few years behind us right now for various reasons. What happens in the next few years from Peace Talks? Book 20 for one and the end of the case files (maybe) and the beginning of the BAT. So at least according to Jim Butcher's original timeline for the series, why would the Reds want to wait until the BAT to start their war?

3) Nicodemus refers to his "schedule". This links with the whole BAT thing. I suspect he knew that the Shroud wasn't the "real" Shroud but he knew it had enough juice to do what he wanted.

4) Mordite is first introduced. This is not an accident.

5) Lord Raith is scared of Ortega. At full power I cannot imagine that Ortega would have been able to take a fully powered up Lord Raith. But I can understand why Lord Raith was afraid of Ortega in his weakened state. But I also wonder if this was more to do with who Ortega represented, Ariana for one, but perhaps the Circle? It seems likely that she was a part of it.

6) The connection between Maggie, Justin, Lord Raith, Ariana, Ortega and Nicodemus is hinted at over the books. And oddly enough but more subtly, Ebenezar.

7) Denarians are definitely stronger in this book. Specifically they all use more anti-magic via their Fallen.

8 ) Some odd continuity errors. Harry doesn't have his bracelet during the Duel with Ortega and he doesn't have it during the fight immediately afterwards. He even specifically notes that it is harder to create a shield without one, and then in the following paragraph when the shield fails he says his bracelet began to burn his wrist. Obviously the Churchmice-Marcone buyer plot point is retconned in Skin Games. And Sanya claims that Michael's armor will not stop bullets - yet we know that Charity put ceramic and kevlar in. And of course the eye color change. Initially the Fallen's eyes are orange, and the host has green. But then it reverses mid book, in the same scene! Forever after the Fallen have green eyes. And by Small Favor the glyph/symbol of the Fallen no longer appears on the forehead of the vessel.

9) Denarians release a contagion - a cocktail of every virus known to man and probably a few more that are unknown. However when reading this again I immediately thought of another thing: the contagion of the spirit spreading around the world. Nemesis.

10) In this book we learn that the forces of Hell get a power boost from destruction and mayhem. The plague will create an environment that makes them more powerful. We also learn later on that the Black Court of Vampires also gain power this way - see the WOJ on how the Black Court level up. Finally, a recent WOJ in response to a fan question about the Spanish Flu also implied that it was not merely a bad contagion, but was essentially a bio-weapon attack. My theory is that perhaps there is a link between the forces of Hell and the Black Court, perhaps they even work together. But more on that in another thread.

DF Spoilers / Denarians and/or Circle in Storm Front?
« on: December 18, 2019, 05:17:25 AM »
I know this doesn't quite fit the pattern, but could there be Denarian or members of the Circle in Storm Front?

Someone had to give Victor Sells the knowledge of the heart-ripping spell, which Vadderung implied was the same one as the Red Court uses in Changes.

Someone had to give Sells his Three Eye recipe, or at least guide him on how to invent such a thing.

Someone had to give him the knowledge of how to summon the Toad Demon.

My bet is the Circle. We are introduced to Bianca in this book, and we know that the Circle/Black Council wanted the war between Wizards and the Vampire Courts to happen. This whole book, the heart-ripping spell in particular, led Harry to Bianca. Where she ended up killing her assistant, and held Harry responsible.

Interestingly, Harry says that no Vampire sorcerer could pull that spell off (outside of the Nevernever). My belief is that Harry was wrong and that he was too naive and arrogant to believe any being but a mortal could do it. He also mistakenly believed that it was more likely a woman who did it as "women hate better". Aside from that ridiculous unsubstantiated statement, I also believe that these little issues were a result of Jim being such a young and inexperienced writer at the time. So perhaps much was retconned.

But if Harry's initial hypothesis is (still) true and even a Vampire Sorcerer couldn't pull it off outside of the Nevernever, I think that indicates that knowing Bianca couldn't pull it off they (the Circle/Black Council) had to use someone else.

The Circle killed a girl from the Velvet Room and one of Marcone's employees. So to me that seems plausible enough that they might have wished to get the only local loudmouth wizard to investigate, knowing he did consulting work for S.I. and knowing he might aggravate Bianca. Hell perhaps they actually knew something like that event would happen, as Wizards gain foresight over time AND clearly many supernatural types have prescient powers.

The whole book is a set up for the war, in order to end the White Council and establish an unobstructed New World Order (assuming that is the Circle's end game).

DF Spoilers / Nemesis WAG
« on: October 22, 2019, 09:44:26 AM »
Nemesis – Invidia. (latin) for envy, one of the seaven deadly sins.

Wouldn't that be interesting if Nemesis was in fact how Nemesis was transferred? When a being becomes envious?

It would make a lot of sense when we consider Lea.

Lea has long been Mab's greatest rival, and most powerful servant, within the Winter Court. Mab has allowed her to gain significant Power whilst also incurring commensurate debt. Lea would both hate and envy Mab's power and position. She has to be one of the most ambitious of the Fae, as she would not have grown her power so much otherwise. In Dead Beat she gains Morgana's Athame, a weapon tainted with Nemesis, but still grant her enough power that she unbalanced the Winter Court and was a real threat to Mab's authority. But the fact that she openly challenged Mab at all is perhaps what is most strange, as even Lea wouldn't risk unbalancing the Winter Court normally. The Fae seem to like subterfuge, sex, and brutal violence when it comes to internal matter (although externally this also seems to be the case...).

Aurora too perhaps was envious, not of Titania's power I think, but of Mortal freedom. She was tired of being immortal and the endless cycle of death and rebirth.

Maeve of course was envious both of Sarissa's place in Mab's eyes, but also to a lesser extent, Mab's power and position. It is made pretty clear on Cold Days it is the fact that Sarissa is free-er and seemingly more loved by Mab than Maeve, that is the root of her anger and sadness.

Cat Sith...well who knows. Probably envious of the power of mightier beings in the Court, and deeply resentful of being beholden to Dresden. Perhaps envious of Dresden's higher status.

I am leaving out the mortals who Lily accused of being infected by Nemesis, as I don't want the discussion to be derailled and I don't think I will convince anyone that there is a good chance that the mortal's are infected. Let's just stick to the "known" infected candidates.

Also, whilst I am NOT saying that Nemesis IS one of the seven deadly sins, if that were the case then it would makes sense that there are other sins (and perhaps corresponding virtues) that are sentient beings. Food for thought.

DF Spoilers / Elaine and Harry WAG
« on: October 22, 2019, 09:29:33 AM »
In Blood Rites Bob drops a pretty throwaway hint - "a fine thrall is so controlled they might not even know that they are a thrall at all, and it last long-term." He says this when explaining the difference between thralls and Renfields. Harry responds "just like Dumorne did to Elaine" to which Bob says "Sure - but it takes a lot of time and a certain amount of empathy"

So we know that Elaine was enthralled by Justin Dumorne - this was well established in Summer Knight (at least by Elaine's word...although it makes sense as Justin tried to do it to Harry and Elaine likely wouldn't have just gone along otherwise).

But two things are implied here:
          1) Justin had a certain amount of empathy towards Elaine and Harry.

          2) Someone is probably a thrall in the series, but they have no idea they are, and it has been going a long time.

It makes sense that Justin had a certain amount of empathy towards Harry and Elaine. From his scenes with Harry (aside from combat) it seems that he was a tough love sort, but did show warmth and affection. He may have been mad or corrupt, but he seems to have actually liked if not cared about his foster children.

Secondly, if Justin were Cowl - Elaine still being a thrall makes perfect sense. Hell, even if he isn't it still makes sense. She has definitely acted quite suspiciously throughout the series, with only plausible explanations helping her get out of trouble.

But what if Harry was the one still enthralled?

Would he even know? Would someone have picked up on it? There are some hints that this might be possible. For instance, in Summer Knight the Gatekeeper says Ancient Mai fears that Justin's teaching may have warped Harry in ways he cannot even see. While it is meant to read that it is more to do with the values that Harry might have learned from his time with (and even against) Justin, it also hints that Harry might not even be even able to tell if he has been shaped and controlled so. Another thing is that beings are constantly messing with or trying to mess with Harry's mind and Will. It is one of his greatest fears and weaknesses, and is a recurring theme in the series. Lasciel, Mab, Molly have all successfully messed with Harry's mind without him knowing for a long time. It could well be that a gifted psychomancer like Justin did just that, perhaps Harry only believes that he beat Justin and that there was a fire or perhaps there was a fire and a duel but the enthrallment wasn't fully broken (as we do know that Justin was attempting to enthrall Harry just before the final duel, and indeed got Harry to drink human blood as part of it and we all know how powerful human blood is, magically speaking). Constantly, most of the Council (especially the Senior Council) are worried about him being this Darth Vader like villain. Many of his enemies often believe that he will join their side, and knew his Mother (which is part of the reason many on the Council worry about him). Hell at one stage Nicodemus even believes that Lash has taken over Dresden and that it is in control. All this could be foreshadowing.

The obvious flaws are that during his star trial he would have likely been examined for such tampering, and Ebenezar would have looked too, plus likely a member of the Senior Council (unless it was Simon who vouched...which might hint all sorts of things, we know he is implied to have misled the council many times before). But presumably Mab or Molly would have noticed when they poked around in his head, or anyone else too.

Still though, the enthralled sleeper agent is a distinct possibility based on Bob's statement. I think either Elaine or Harry, or both, are enthalled.

DF Spoilers / Mavra and the Black Court
« on: October 22, 2019, 09:05:43 AM »
WAG time!

I think most would agree that there as at least an implied connection between the Black Court of Vampires and the Outsiders.

They are often described as being tainted by something inhuman, unworldy and evil. Something that robs them of all choice.

Renfields are particularly interesting - their will is some brutally and completely overridden that the person they were before is essentially dead. They are empowered by that same fell strength that the Black Court runs off (though obviously a lot less than a BCV). They are described as being bound by a vile collar of dark energy (a reflection of the magic that enslaves them), their muscles are bulging with blackened veins, but the worst is the eyes - which appear as though they have been clawed out and their is a hideous cold darkness, vast and terrible instead. A profound Nothing. This is their description when Harry views one with his Sight. Curiously, neither the OG Merlin nor any Saint on record who tried to remove the spell was able. This suggests to me that once their minds/psyches have been so dominated so violently by the BCV, they are effectively dead. There is nothing left of the original person. Just a meat suit.

The Renfields, and vampire thralls, are an example of how the White Council's Laws can be perverted and used against them. The White Council cannot kill (with magic) mortal beings, even Renfields it seems, making them effective tools and meat shields. It was problems like this that required the creation of the position of the Blackstaff.

A few inconsistencies, or at least issues, exist though. In Blood Rites, Harry believes that the Black Court have been around since the dawn of human civilization and Ebenezar says that Dracula (son of Drakul) went to join the Black Court as a sort of teenage rebellion. However in WOJ we have a quote saying that Dracula, in an effort to impress his father (Drakul), wound up creating himself as the first Black Court Vampire - but it didn't work out so well. Finally, OG Merlin supposedly tried to remove or fix the Renfield curse/enthrallment. However, the OG Merlin would have existed about a thousand years before Dracula (who would have existed about 600 years before the Dresden Files).

So which is true? As the WOJ came after Blood Rites, most have taken that to mean Jim has retconned/rethought his original idea of the Black Court. Of course it could be a genuine mistake too, but perhaps the discrepancy was intentional (it would hardly be the first...). An easy solution to the Merlin issue is that he is a Time Traveler. But then, is Dracula? Did he go back to the dawn of humanity to become the first Black Court Vampire?

Also - Mavra is about 600 years old according to WOJ, and the name Mavra comes from a Russian opera about a love affair. Mavra is the pseudonym of a man (Vassili) pretending to be a servant. Is there a connection between Mavra and Russia? Well for one, Simon Pietrovich was Russian and the White Council's expert on Vampires. He is also the number one suspect for Cowl currently (as rated by these boards). It would fit - Jim loves those 80s references, the whole Russian vs America thing is very much a part of pop culture (and was heavily so in the 80s). Also, if Mavra is 600 years old she definitely existed during Dracula's reign. Which either makes her one of the oldest and strongest Black Court Vampires, but might also mean she was someone from history. Perhaps Dracula's sister/wife/mother etc.

I have also speculated in the past to the connection between Drakul and the Outsiders - which would make more sense if the Black Court were heavily connected to the Outsiders as well.

DF Spoilers / 1884-85 The time that Eb took up the Blackstaff
« on: October 03, 2019, 07:46:54 AM »

Quote

Eb took up the Blackstaff in 1884-1885 somewhere in there.  The Blackstaff chooses his successor.

So to my thinking - the most significant event of that time was the Berlin Conference and the Scramble of Africa. This allowed a channel for old European rivalries and helped set the stage for WWI.

So Eb takes up the Blackstaff, right as Kemmler is helping set up the first World War. What was Eb really up to and what caused him to take up the position?

DF Spoilers / What if Dresden is actually aiding his enemies?...
« on: September 25, 2019, 09:32:50 AM »
Or not all his enemies are as evil as he thinks...

Consider that Nicodemus wanted the Red Court removed. He talks about this in Small Favor when trying to convince Harry to join up. What does Harry do several years later? Destroy the entire Red Court.

Harry also is told by Lea not to ever let Mab take him to the Stone Table, yet later she does and he becomes the Winter Knight. Lash's sacrifice by suicide to protect Harry has been hinted by Jim to mirror Harry's own suicide...a convincing play for Lash. Not all lies are words and it speaks to Harry's ego and deep need to be a saviour.

Harry has aided Nicodemus, even when he didn't want to when years ago that would have stopped him dead. Even though he works it to his advantage, as many such as Marcone have noted, when Harry wants to do something and thinks he is in the right his enemies are normally destroyed and not much stops him.

And as was implied by Lea in Cold Days, it takes a lot to convince a young wizard to destroy when necessary his enemies, to use violence. It is constantly stated you can only really do something you truly believe in, and the effects of your magic are a response of that too so it doesn't matter if there are unintended consequences, that is on you. HWWBh was shaping his weapon, his tool, not merely pursuing Harry.

I believe that either Harry is witlessly aiding his enemies and their ends unintentionally or his enemies goals (such as Nicodemus') are not as bad as Harry might think. They might actually line up to his personal view of right and wrong. This too is hinted at.

DF Spoilers / The Merlin WAG
« on: September 25, 2019, 05:23:18 AM »
The original Merlin in the Dresden Files is a VERY mysterious character. He formed the current version of the White Council, created the Catholic Church, was keeper of the Swords, created Demonreach and was its first Warden, probably was first Gatekeeper (at least mortal wise), saved the important text from the fires at the Library of Alexandria and wrote the 7 Laws of Magic, and probably a whole bunch of other stuff. Seems quite full on. Some of the magic he has performed was so advanced, so impossible, it seemed impossible to a regular user a few lifetimes later.

However when we go searching the internet we realise Merlin is much more complicated. It was Geoffrey of Monmouth who formalised the character we know today. He combined the welsh folk hero druid Myrdinn Wyllt (Merlin the Wild) and/or Merlin Caledonensis and Ambrosius Aurelianus (a Romano-Brit war leader) to form what he called Merlin Ambrosius (in Welsh: Myrddin Emrys) (Old Welsh: Embreis).  So we have this madman prophet druid cross war leader wise man. He was a cambion (born of a woman and an incubus - a sex demon that seduced women and impregnated them with demonic spawn). This is the original source of his powers in Monmouth's stories. Eventually he engineers Arthur's birth and the kingdom of Camelot. He serves as Arthur's advisor until eventually he is either killed or sealed away by the Lady of the Lake (sometimes called Nimue).
In latin his name is Merlinus.

He became associated with the tale originally attributed to Ambrosius Aurelianus, the tale of two dragons. In it a powerful warlord called King Vortigern is trying to build a tower that keeps crumbling, and is told by his advisers that he needs the blood of a bastard to stop it crumbling. However the real reason it keeps collapsing is that two great dragons are fighting beneath it: a white dragon (representing the invading Germanic Saxons) and a red dragon (representing the Celtic Britons; originally representing the Welsh). It is Merlin's wisdom in the retelling that solves this.

Eventually Merlin in his early days goes on to create Stonehenge, uses his magic to disguise Uther Pendragon so he can sneak into Tintagel Castle unnoticed and impregnate the wife of his enemy Gorlois, Igraine. This is how he engineers Arthur's birth.

Here is where things get crazy. In later retellings by Robert de Boron (a french poet), he is actually created to be a demon spawn to become the Antichrist in order to reverse the Harrowing of Hell (the event where Christ after his crucifixion descended into Hell to free all the souls trapped there since the beginning of the world). But he is baptized at birth which frees him of Satan's power and so the plot is thwarted. However he keeps his knowledge of past and future, has great shape-shifting powers, is a joker, and is obsessed by the Holy Grail.

His apprentice is often Arthur's half-sister Morgan Le Fay, which in the traditional tales they are not enemies, contrary to the later works. Often she is either a lover or unrequited love interest. In some tales he is also the teacher of Vivienne (Nimue) the Lady of the Lake.

So to my thinking - we have a lot of differences and yet a lot of similarities and call backs in the Dresden Files to the original tales. Morgan's knife is a weapon involved in great magics, powerful as Amoracchius, which may not be evil in and of itself. However as the Circle had it, and it was tainted with Nemesis or whatever leads to nemesis (some say Power could be), it probably was involved in some dark stuff at one time or another. He held the swords, one which was Amoracchius under the name Excalibur, and the Holy Grail features heavily in the later Arthurian tales.

Merlin in the Dresden Files is probably pretty dead or at least out of commission. We are told he is NOT the british prisoner in Demonreach. Which could again be misdirection, or perhaps he is down there but a different prisoner. Or he is elsewhere. I would say if he is around in some form, chances are Morgan Le Fay is too and so is Nimue. In Hellboy, Nimue is the Queen of Blood and a peer of the Queen of Darkness Hecate. It would not at all surprise me if she existed too - and was in fact either underneath a fairy Queen mantle OR perhaps Nimue or Morgan or both lead the Fomor or Circle. I know this is getting a bit convoluted but there are definitely big connections.

So perhaps Merlin was half White Court vampire, half mortal. Perhaps he was a starborn too (the antichrist thing). He likely was a shapeshifter of LTWs level or higher. He also has great knowledge of future and past. He could just as easily be Harry (via TT), or related to him through one family or another.  Yes this is all quite nuts - yet there is plenty of the secrets of the future tales I think embedded in here.

What are your thoughts?

DF Spoilers / On the nature of Entities...
« on: September 23, 2019, 04:54:28 AM »
In the Dresden Files and its associated works, there is are many entities both large and small, powerful and weak, immortal and semi-mortal (perhaps long lived, but not truly immortal such as the Queens or Mantle holders, elves and gruffs and trolls etc fit into this category).

But there is scant information on how any of them came to be. How they become more than what they are. How they become strong enough to exist at all.

We know that belief and knowledge of the entity plays a significant part. Enough belief in something can make it godlike and conversely not enough belief can cause it to be locked out of reality.

But I find that interesting, because if they are merely locked out, they are not "dead". So what are they? Where are they? The novel the oblivion war features in (Back Up) mentions that the objective of the venators is to cause mortals to forget the magical being, and that the objective of the being is for enough mortals to believe in it so it may manifest and wield power. Not all, perhaps not even most, are gods. Yet they operate in very much the same way. A WOJ discusses how that if mortals all forgot about a previous Lucifer, would we even know? But he also says, somethings always will have a foot in the door as mortals will always wonder "who am I?" and "why am I here?"

On reading the Paranet Papers and the Dresden Files RPG, I noticed a passage that discussed how mortals create an idea and an entity rushes to fill that space. This is interesting on several counts. Firstly, the entity already exists in a way, but is shaped by the mortal idea. This then would provide the limits and the functions of this being. Secondly, it shows the tremendous power mortals have to shape reality. Finally, it shows an answer to the WOJ about how the beings themselves don't really change, just our understanding of them.

This also begs the question of how the Old Ones and the Outsiders fit in...they don't totally play by the rules. My feeling is they are not trying to gain worship or power, they have all they need in a way (chaos/the outside doesn't have limits?) but they do hate reality as it forces limitations upon them. And so they wish to torture and destroy it.

DF Spoilers / The Queen of Air and Darkness
« on: September 23, 2019, 04:15:04 AM »
Morgawse, Morgause...whatever you like. She is referred to by this name in the poem of the same name by A.E. Housman. She is the Witch-Queen of Orkeney who in is the daughter of Gorlois and Igraine (King Arthur's mother), Uther Pendragon takes Igraine as his wife making her Arthur's half sister. In some versions she is also Morgana Le Fey's sister too. And she is mother to Gawain, Agravaine, Garheris, Gareth and Mordred (who slays Arthur, and is his son...)

Highly convenient name considering Merlin's involvement in the Dresden Files.

So is Mab then Margause? A witch in a line of witches descended from Medea and Hecate? How do both Athame's fit in?

Mab did say she was once mortal...

DF Spoilers / Baba Yaga and Baba Vasilisa
« on: September 23, 2019, 12:45:16 AM »
Are Mother Winter and Mother Summer, respectively.

Except Simon met with Baba Yaga several times, and she offered him power and knowledge and he refused, and did not choose to be her servitor. He also was certain she was NOT fae. We have a WOJ saying that Mother Winter is, for all intents and purposes, Baba Yaga. So we have a contradiction.

My belief is that Baba Yaga and Mother Winter, and Baba Vasilisa and Mother Summer, are mantles. What is underneath and wearing them is harder to say.

Why isn't he dead?

If everything that stands upon the Earth on Halloween is mortal, from the Ladies to the Archangels, why isn't he dead? Harry blew his head off! Yet the dark cloud rushing away yowling implies that he survived?

So are Outsiders more than immortal? Was Bob wrong about conjunctions and Halloween? Are there exceptions?

DF Spoilers / How a being becomes vulnerable to Nemesis - hint from WOJ
« on: September 10, 2019, 07:27:34 AM »
I think Jim has dropped a few hints on this, but unless I am much mistaken I don't think this idea has been actually floated.

Any being becomes vulnerable to Nemesis infection via being too close to Mortals and the Mortal World.

But I think that only applies to beings that are not multiverse spanning - Archangels, Angels, perhaps the Mothers (guessed but unconfirmed). But the hint is in this WOJ:

Quote
Mortals, in their own possession of free will, have a tendancy to influence beings who don’t have it, in one way or another.  I suppose it’s entirely possible, for example, that too much association with mortals are what changed Aurora, former Summer Lady, and gave her a determination to destroy the natural order in an effort to change its very nature–for the better, true, but it would never even have occurred to any of the other Queens, Mothers or Lady that such a thing might be, until it had already happened.  It isn’t in their nature.

But perhaps I’ve said too much.  I’ll shut up now. :)

So this first part I have highlighted pretty much gives that hint. We are pretty sure Nemesis is what corrupted her, but how it was able to get past her guard might be the fact she was spending too much time with mortals...like Elaine Mallory (make of that what you will...was it really chance she ran to the Summer Court...?)

And secondly, what is also really interesting is that Jim seems to be saying that the destruction of the natural order would be a GOOD thing. Huh? Yet that second part I have put in bold seems to suggest that destroying the natural order might have been for the better. Could it be that the Faerie Courts are not as good for reality as we think? Could Nemesis serve a purpose?

Now of course, that is somewhat unrelated to my opening but it is important. And I am aware that this doesn't really address how Mortals become vulnerable to Nemesis, unless of course by their very nature they are always vulnerable. By being able to Choose to do something, to shape themselves and their destiny via their Choices. I think so, and I think it is the same reason Immortals would otherwise not be vulnerable, but become so.

And it makes sense too! Lea spent too much time with Mortals, especially just before she received Morgana's Athame. Her immune system was down you might say (draws a nice parallel from Winter being Realities immune system, and the Outsiders being the virus). Maeve spent a lot of time with Lloyd Slate and Lily etc justs before Lea got to her. Cat Sith spent a whole bunch of time with Harry before HWWBf got to him.
