DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy's Gun [Battle Ground Spoilers]
« on: October 07, 2020, 02:07:44 PM »
My honest feel, is this was Dresden getting a new "primary carry" so that Murph is always with him on the battlefield in a very round about way... but that it needed to be said when it was so that he *still* had it it when Murph's body was taken/gone.  It's still a Chekhov's Gun moment, but it's pay off wasn't for this book. I imagine there will be some pay off with Mirror Murphy in Mirror, Mirror and perhaps with real Murph somewhen down the line.

DF Spoilers / Sudden Realization After BG Re: The Castle

So, given her perspective on time, what do you think the odds are on Leanansidhe's Garden still being where we last saw it? How hard would it be for Lea to make a simple path to Demonreach? Could this be even easier than we expected? Just a thought. Call it a WAG if you want, but it's just a musing at this point.

"I understood that reference!"
It was a great inclusion at that point, a bit of levity to what was ultimately a hard scene without it. My wife and I have been singing that song a lot lately, politics so I won't go into any more details.

DF Spoilers / Re: HUGE BATTLE GROUND SPOILERS - (Un)Answered questions

I think it's a matter of preferences/approach, not limited ability.

We know that it's technically possible for "regular people" to learn magic, but without the Sight it's compared to a blind person learning to paint. With a Fallen's knowledge, that can probably be overcome.

But it's probably a lot quicker/easier to turn into a giant monster Ursiel/Magog style, especially for someone who already knows how to fight.

And Harry calls Namshiel "Master of Sorcery". His preferences likely make that something he would offer early on (bring it up even if the host doesn't know it's possible) - not so for Ursiel or Magog.

And we've seen what even a modest talent can get up to with the proper supervision: Butters and Bob. I personally think that if the fallen really wanted to they could get wizard level ability out of anyone they chose to co-pilot... with the proper effort. Effort some don't choose to expend.

DF Spoilers / Re: What's the deal with the horrible communication skills?
« on: September 30, 2020, 06:03:38 PM »
Harry isn't aware of what transpired between Carlos and Molly though, is he? So I think there's some miscommunication on both sides as I believe Carlos thinks Harry does know what happened.

This was kinda where I was going... mentally at least.  I do hope we get something resolved re: the Council sooner than later.

Yes, I felt that way in both Peace Talks and Battle Ground.  Rudolph for one, did he just go nuts or why would he kill Murphy in cold blood after she saved everyone by killing the giant?

I honestly don't think it was "in cold blood," I think the massive screw-up just screwed up again. I think it was an accidental shot... This is terrible, and ugly, because it means Murph was a casualty of something so damn small. This should play out in an interesting way, but honestly is pretty ugh. I want to see Rudolph scarred by this, don't Dresden's reaction, but his stupid mistake.

I think that 'Los has more issues than he realizes going on here. I firmly agree that he has some issues with Winter thank's to being used to teach Molly a lesson. I think he's still wary of Harry because of the Lashiel buffs he witnessed back when and still never got an explanation for. That said Carlos trusted Harry then, but something changed... What?

I'm really curious about the Black Council/Grey Council plot at this point. With 'Los and Eb both on less than friendly terms with Harry now how will this plot move forward.

My personal take on Marcone/Namshiel:
Marcone is not a simple host to be "overpowered" and ridden like a car. He is a stronger host more like a horse, he could be "broken" or worked alongside as long as the destination is generally the same. Personally, I think that this will kinda slow burn in the background as Harry and Marcone have to interact and get a bit of a "bro-mance" almost friendly relationship. Then redemption equals death; Marcone will lay down the Coin over loosing control... only to die for the lack of power. I don't know... All I can say for sure is that Harry and Marcone will have to work together more, and somehow we will feel loss over Marcone.

DF Spoilers / Re: Why, Thomas, Why? (Peace Talks Spoilers)
« on: July 27, 2020, 10:03:55 PM »
I'm finishing my reread (that I failed to complete before Peace Talks) and in Cold Days right now... I'll know for sure tonight of maybe tomorrow... BUT Cait Sith, Thomas owes him a favor. And did he die, or just get knocked into the lake? How many people are explicitly told about the cat's Nfection? Could we be missing something there? Just a thought I had at the debt incurred scene, and wanted to put up before I finished Cold Days.

DFRPG / Re: What are your favorite aspects?
« on: August 26, 2013, 09:08:08 PM »
We had some great gems hiding in plain sight. Oddly the quiet and "vague" or not as focused on character bits, but on core perspectives of the character.

"Ohhh! What does this do?"
"Killing isn't elegant or creative. It's not my style..." (Dr Horrible love)
"I've gotten in touch with my inner sociopath"
"I'm not racist, I hate everyone" (character was indeed "racist" everything not human was bad)

An awesome character that was all about cards. Tarot and playing card divination and odd "density magic" to turn small thrown weapons into big hits. (Yes, a card throwing character, they happen a lot in my group) He had some good aspects but the one that will always stand out is: "The Heart of the M***er F***ing Cards, B***h!" Between the utility and entertainment this aspect came up at every turn.

I've got a hard one for everyone

What color is Harry's hat ;D

Black... ball cap with the Coca Cola logo in red on it.
He only wore it once. One of the last quarter books, I'd like to say small favor, but I'd prob be wrong. I know it was at least PG and beyond, as i'm in my pre Ghost Story re-read and am looking for that to make a note. :) :p ;)

DFRPG / Re: When you want Bob without the Bob
« on: May 25, 2011, 10:54:22 PM »
One major point is Bob is supposed to be a Badass with a capital B. Remember as fun and useful these "toy Bobs" are and can be limits make them fun and better fitting. Thematically many things are appropriate:
Scrying/fortune telling items might be a fun venue.
Tomes and rune collections hold information.
Spirits in unique "housing" are going to be popular, I like this idea, just remember each sprit is going to have areas of knowledge.

My only issue here is IoP are unbreakable. This just makes IoP armor seem really munchkin-y. My two cents.

DFRPG / Re: locating cellphones
« on: May 14, 2011, 09:27:51 PM »
My two bits:
It has more to do with the target in question and the phone than the actual numbers and tech. Expanded example: I am a tech geek, always on my CPU iPad or iPhone, if asked to characterize me one of these devices might be mentioned. A friend of mine plays with his damn android every instance he is able. I would allow either of us to be tracked, perhaps. My wife on the other hand, forgets her phone when she leaves the house, does not HAVE to have it in the same room as her, and can generally "survive" without it (if that could be called living). Her I would not allow to be tracked like that even if she had the phone on her, it's just not part of her Identity; her True Image.

I would absolutely allow it if someone were to use an aspect that might fit here. Like I have been trying to think of an aspect for a vanilla mortal that is "always online" via a smartphone etc. If the phone is "core" to the character then it's appropriate.

DFRPG / Re: Tech hexing - required for who?
« on: August 10, 2010, 03:03:49 AM »
For that matter, what suffers from hexing more.....
I know that older machines work better around wizards... but how does that mesh with new more robust tech?
What is more likely to be erased by accidental wizard hexing: an 8-track, a cassette, a cd, a bluray disk, a flash drive, a micro hard drive-ed mp3 player, an external hard drive, or a solid state hard drive....

At a certain point as that list goes on I feel there is less to glitch in the media it self. Some could argue that in basic simplicity a cd, or a flash drive might be less complex than a cassette or other magnetic media. Now the players of said devices not so much but the media....
