What do you guys think of an Enchanted Item that "stores" a consequence for you? That is to say, you can take a consequence on the item instead of your own body. Once it is "wounded," that use of the effect cannot be invoked until the item is "treated" for the consequence and "recovers."

An example and how it would work (with flavor text):

With a Lore of Fair (+2), a wizard makes a bottle storing some of breath, allowing it to take the Minor Consequence "BRUISED AND WINDED" instead of him, once per session. He gets into a fight, and focuses his will to redirect the harm from a grazing bullet into the flask. His graze clears, but the bottle's vapors turn a dull red. He is busy for the rest of the session, and so the bottle remains unusable the next session--it is still in use until it is "healed" by his careful tinkering in the lab, using Lore instead of Scholarship to start the recovery process.

I'm not entirely sure it's balanced, but I tend to think it probably is. I'm also concerned some Warden is going to think the bottle is Black Magic, even though there is no Law it actually breaks, just because bottled life force is kinda creepy. I'd like opinions on that, too.

DFRPG / Sidhe-born Changelings and Power Selection.
« on: July 16, 2010, 07:05:17 PM »
I'm pre-genning characters for a one-shot I'm running tomorrow, and one of the High Concepts I'm running with is "Mortal-born Prince of Ogres." His father is a Wyld Sidhe, the Ogre King, which I feel entitles the father to some upgraded powers, like Supernatural Strength. Should I allow Supernatural Strength for the changeling character? On the one hand, he is descended from an especially potent Fae. On the other, if he Chooses, he doesn't become an Ogre King, and probably (although I'm not certain) he doesn't even become a Sidhe. Since Changeling's powers seem to be tied up in bringing them closer to the Choice, I'm torn on this.

Since its a one-shot, if I don't get a good answer in time, I'll just go with whatever makes him work the best in the group. However, I'd prefer not to establish a precedent I'm going to go back on later.

DFRPG / Unsponsored Magic with Sponsored Magic flavor--how to handle?
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:09:30 PM »
So, how would you represent a being who has Sponsored Magic-style effects, but no sponsor? The example I'm thinking of would be a Nephilim, a creature of angelic bloodline (and thus, nature) but no direct angelic sponsorship, but I an imagine others.

My inclination is to charge for Sponsored Magic as normal, but remove debt and super-charging mechanics, as well as agenda limitations--essentially, instead of taking pseduo-Channeling, and pseduo-Ritual, the character actually takes Channeling and Ritual with the "element" of the Sponsored Magic type. Of course, in our Soulfire example, I'd still tack on a bonus refresh in cost.

Thoughts?

DFRPG / Potions and Crafting Specializations
« on: June 30, 2010, 07:15:34 AM »
Hey all. I can't figure out how the rules treat the interaction of Crafting Specializations and Potions. More specifically, the Frequency specialization (Power seems easy enough). With a bonus in frequency, do you make multiple dose potions, get doubled up slots, or just get no benefit whatsoever?
