Display Case / Re: Perfect Casting, part 2
« on: April 17, 2013, 04:00:18 PM »
I will say that if it was, it was only successful because people are making it so.

We're having a tough time seeing how that was trolling, folks. FZ, please explain what you think is obvious. And if you really don't have anything meaningful to add, there's plenty of other threads out there where you do.
(Please note that IMHO, being silly IS meaningful. Trolling isn't, of course, nor is poking the anthill. But if FZ is just being silly, that's not trolling. And that comment is not directly solely at you Shadow, that's a general reminder to the board in general.)

WN, if it helps clarify, take Ninja Skills out of there...the language of You Suck, when it's not a Chris Moore book, is likely what triggered the moderation. Please note I am guessing on this, as real life started eating my head about 8 months ago and I've been a bit scarce and was not there for the actual incident.

Most boards, minor insults are like punctuation. The powers that be here want it to be basically smack-free, uber polite*...I think** the confusion on the subject is simply a matter of perspective and not seeing the language conflict...assuming you didn't mean any offence by the comment and were just phrasing things comically, basically saying "Your kung fu is not strong enough for this."

*A large chunk of there being zero tolerance is because in the past, certain posters danced the line on purpose to try to sneak in insults without being called on it, or trying to claim "I didn't MEAN to be insulting, I was just being silly" when they were actually trying to be insulting.

**Again, wasn't here for it, so I may be off base.

I'm barely on facebook...don't have to be a member to see the page ;)

The grand high inquisitor has been filled already. We could use a Low Enuciator, however.

I'm not big on FB myself; there's a board for members. There's no normal web page yet.
"Hey, all my fiction that's been published has been set in a Gaming universe!  "
There you go. 2 for the price of 1.

Note the smiley up there. ;) This was in reference to most posts I make, and I was being silly. There's a trend for 16-17 views, hence the "stable of readers" silly remark.

The designer of Mana Punk suggested we add "& Yoddeling" to the end.

I find it odd that when I post something like this, I always get the same about of views of the posts and few responses ;) It's like I have a stable of quiet readers.

Mission Statement:

The Society for the Advancement of Speculative Storytelling, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and mentoring aspiring and new writers of speculative fiction, art, and game design. In so doing, its activities shall include, but not be limited to, keeping its members informed of issues within the field, providing avenues of constructive critique and collegial discussion for its members, and encouraging interest and appreciation for all aspects of speculative fiction in multiple media.

SASS is now starting to open the doors, having recently done all the legal paperwork, and will have membership applications coming up soon (presumably the FB page will have updates!)...many semi-pros are already involved, with some full-time authors eyeing SASS for mentoring and networking. (Including known science fiction and fantasy authors.)
Art & Game design will be lagging behind slightly as SASS was originally conceived for authors*; as such, the board is made up of authors and the artists and the game designers have not joined as yet...but it is open to them! We'll structure those sections as more join.

*Originally SASF, and as such you'll occasionally see language in docs that says "fiction" instead of "storytelling."

Author Craft / Why it takes so long for a book to get published
« on: April 25, 2012, 01:37:10 PM »

Why does it take a year for a book to go from a draft to bookstore shelves? Is it to build anticipation? Because publishers are modern-day Neanderthals, trying to make e-books by rubbing sticks together? Because authors are so precious?

The correct answer is: yes! In more detail, it’s because this*:
* Note: Blog may represent one-sided author’s view of a process he actually knows little about, with gaps in knowledge filled with speculation and lies.

Hopefully I'm not late to the party, but...

laughably bad. Reading them caused me to lose some respect for the people making them.

Reading this caused other things. Please go back and edit your remarks, and do not insult others on this board again. This is an official warning.

Announcements / Re: Ghost Story Spoiler Rulers

"book spoilers--no matter how minor--cannot be posted until noon EDT July 26th"

Folks, this is enforced to the hilt. Staff was just put in the position of having to take drastic measures because a poster decided these rules didn't apply to sigs. And the spoiler was a HUGE one if someone puts 2 & 2 together, which most folks here could do.

So drastic measures had to be taken, and we HATE taking drastic measures. Please refrain from causing yourself problems (and making us sad) by forcing the issue in such a way.
