DF Spoilers / Re: The best DF stories...

You both have pointed out scenes that should have been really cool; I just felt fatigued reading Battle Ground, because there was one epic fight after another. It had a numbing effect.

DF Spoilers / The best DF stories...

...are fun and have Moments of Awesome. Skin Game has bad things (e.g. Murphy's injury) and emotional moments, but I like it because it's a fun heist story and has Butters' Jedi moment.

Dead Beat...well. I don't need to point out the awesomeness of Harry riding a zombie dinosaur.

Cold Days has an exhilarating climax in which Harry smacks down Santa Claus and leads the Wild Hunt. (Actually, any time the Erl King is around tends to be enjoyable--my favorite scene in Changes was the duel in his domain.) Gard's appearance on the island in Small Favor gives me all manner of cheap thrills.

It's why Ghost Story and the two latest books are among my least favorites. They just don't have enough fun, or moments when I want to yell "Yay!" Agree? Disagree?

DF Spoilers / Re: So what is next

I think the plan was for the next book to be The Olympian Affair. The YA series was (last I heard) going to be co-authored with his sister. The way he described the process sounded as though they would collaborate on an outline and he'd move on (meaning his sister would do the writing).

I'm glad to hear it. I love Jim, but I don't think he's good at writing Maggie--even in "Zoo Day" she doesn't sound like a traumatized child to me. She's not nearly enough of a pain in the butt for even a child raised in nice, typical surroundings, and kids who have been through rough times often have behavioral issues. I hope his sister can make Maggie a little less ideal.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I will not be receiving Battle Ground until Christmas (I got Peace Talks for my birthday). Please tell me, without spoilers, how is this book? How does it compare to PT, and to other books in the series? Did it answer questions raised in PT? Thanks!
