Glad you like the picture Dos Santos has great work.

I have read through the posts and wonder if you perhaps I could put a spin on this.

If I understand you are trying to create a guy, that has created a big bad Golem.  Lets look at it another way.

Build the Golem as the Character and attach a person to him.

This could lead to some interesting Roleplaying and adventures.

Golem's maker dies.
Golem gains self awareness.
Golem becomes controlled by BBEG.

Any number of fun things.

Thanks again for the input on this.  I am attempting to put this into a "module" format for Fantasy Grounds II.

Anyone out there running Dresden on FG2 yet?

Not even that; not to go into spoilers, but I'm fairly certain that the mantle can only be revoked upon the death of the Knight. This was a plot point.

again not to get into spoilers but an interview with mr. butcher stated that not even in death.

I have been reading and listening to this one.  And I think there is a point some are missing.

Sponsored Magic.  Means someone is lending you magic.  You call on them and they either GRANT or DENY you power.

If a dragon sponsors you, and while not on a specific duty for the dragon you toast someone, or abuse your magic, I would think the dragon would simply DENY you that power you are attempting to summon.  Think of it.

You go in for the killing blow and the sponsor DENIES you power.  So there you are, powerless, and the foe you had been attempting to kill now has the upper hand.

Just goes to show that all power needs to be used responsibly.  Why does the spider man quote always pop up in my head.

DFRPG / Re: Elements Question
« on: May 23, 2010, 09:08:29 PM »
to biff_dyskolos thanks.  That was indeed my point.

For instance someone using the element of Fire in a burning building.  They shouldn't have to invest so much personal energy to create a ball of fire.  The fire is already there.  they are not creating it from nothing.  You are simply reaching out and shaping a portion of the fire into a ball.  IE: more efficient ways for the effect to happen.

If the same fire mage is under water . . . he would need to create the fire from personal energy and well lets be honest it would take quite a bit more personal energy to generate the effect of a ball of fire.

True these are all points the GM must throw at the players with aspects on the scenes, etc.

Harry is always talking about drawing the energy in from around him to form the spells, and in the case where he was inside the huge ritual circle there was only so much magic to go around, so he started drawing and holding . . . something that made him dizzy and lightheaded from the power he felt.

So "Corruption" could be a form of magic?  A practitioner would be strongest in a garbage dump, homeless shelter, or political event.  Least powerful in a scientific clean room, church, or well groomed park.

Hmmm.  Ponder Ponder.

If so, then it should have Aspects, and probably even go though the whole NPC creation process.

I didn't read the N in NPC.
And thought to myself.  Wow.

A character playing as the weapon that another character is wielding.  And thereby controlling the person through compels/insights/declarations.

mind blowing.

Domino from the Marvel-verse.

Quote
Domino is a mutant with the ability to subliminally and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in her favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things to occur within her line of sight, thus causing her to have "good luck" and her opponents to have "bad luck." This phenomenon can be anything from an enemy's equipment failure to hitting just the right switch with a stray shot to shut down an overloading nuclear reactor.

I can totally see this as a focused practitioner.  You see the point you want to hit with the bullets or focus on a body part you saw before they hid behind the wall and curve your bullet around the wall to hit that body part.  Very nice very simple.  No need to over think.

I would take the suggestion that others have given about the weapon types and keep it simple.  Revolvers, and other hearty weapons.  You get into any modern military fully automatic and you are asking for a wizard to hex your weapon and make your character useless.

I like the idea your wife came up with.

I see a NPC taking shape in my mind.  A small girl.  12 years or younger.  Teddy bear backpack, and front pockets stuffed with marble sized shapes. (silver and iron ball bearings).  On her wrist a custom hello kitty slingshot.

Doesn't matter that she isn't strong enough to pull the slingshot WAAAY back.  She reinforces the "bullet" with magic increasing damage, and aims it with magic.  So yeah the slingshot is simply her "wand".

DFRPG / Re: story seeds
« on: May 21, 2010, 06:45:40 PM »
Here is a one shot plot I recently ran.  The formula works well for a seed.  Kudos.

The Problem
The group's vehicle has broken down in a small town while transporting a Dark Black Magic Relic to be destroyed.  The garage says it will take at least a day and a half to get the vehicle back on the road.  Meanwhile the Relic is attempting to tempt the players into using it.

Life Gets Worse
A teenage girl has been abducted.  Local authorities are searching the area, but it seems the whole town feels the "newcomers" are the guilty party.  All it would take is a simple search of their possessions to turn up an occult looking item, and place even more focus on them.

Life Gets Even Worse Than That
A huge party is planned at a local's Wizard's estate.  Free beer, and a sure fire good time.  Too bad the wizard has gone black and is planning to tap into the full moon, a planned earthquake, and the party goers wild night out to fuel a summoning that he hopes will bind his deceased wife's soul into the body of the kidnapped teenager.

The Twist
The wizard has been summoning a Demon regularly for advice on how to design his ritual.  Little does the wizard know the demon has been using the wizard to slowly weaken and dominate the town.  Nor does the wizard know the true effect of the ritual, his wife will not end up in the vessel, but the demon itself will.  An event that will allow the demon to remained in the mortal world until the vessel is destroyed.  Oh, and of course the demon just HAS to HAVE that relic the player are protecting.  It matches its shoes.

Okay, there's actually a BIG problem with that as an Item of Power: No Refresh costing powers in the Dresden Files have limited uses. If it's got limited uses, you definitely shouldn't be charging them Refresh for it. Just make them spend a Fate Point to use a bullet when they do so, that's how the Swords of the CDross work. In fact, the Swords of the Cross do literally the exact same thing...and have unlimited uses.

Now, if the Guns do something else, even without those bullets, charging for that is, of course, perfectly reasonable, but charging for the bullets is unnecessary and somewhat unfair.

Okay but the gun in supernatural "kills anything shot".  One Bullet.  One Kill.  Big Bad refresh 40 monster.  Dead one shot.  Your telling me spending a Fate point makes that okay?  I don't think so.

Unlimited bullets if the gun simply does the same thing a sword of the cross does by satisfying the catch for every monster.  I would be okay with that.  Cause you would have to shoot big bad monsters several times to kill them.

But the unlimited "kills anything shot" I am having a problem with.  But then again I don't let my players have Nukes.  EVER.

How did the knife, book, and Jar become those things if you didn't have them planned?

Okay just refresh peoples memories of "the Colt" from supernatural,

Quote from: From Wikipedia, edited to remove spoilers
The 1836 Colt Paterson, Texas[119]—usually referred to as "The Colt"—was made by Samuel Colt for a paranormal hunter. According to legend, anything shot with it by one of its thirteen original bullets will die, including creatures normally immune to any and all weapons... The last bullet is then used to kill a demon, though it is later repaired to allow the use of more bullets...There are five things in creation that the gun cannot kill.

The gun used in the series is actually a replica Colt ball and cap gun modified to fire metallic cartridges.  On the barrel of the gun is inscribed the Latin phrase "non timebo mala", meaning "I will fear no evil".  On the handle is a carving of a pentagram, with much of the finish removed to give it an aged appearance.  The props department also has a rubber version of the Colt to be used in fight scenes for pistol-whipping.

The writers have discussed the possibility of a spin-off following Samuel Colt and a group of hunters in the Old West.

This is a really powerful item, much on the same lines as a sword of the cross.  It can satisfy every monsters catch.  I love the roleplaying aspect of limiting the number of times it can be fired.  IE the Bullets and the gun have to work together in conjunction.  But whats the point if you can shoot it an unlimited number of times?

So yeah, treat it as 1 magic item.  Its just a pair of pistols.  And limit the rounds/charges.

Perhaps the six-shooters, the gun belt, and holsters have been passed down, and each time the item is passed on, it renews the number of bullets.  13 bullets for each new generation.

That would be a powerful legacy.

DFRPG / Re: Las Vegas

I have never been to Vegas.  However, if I recall the stories from friends and family correctly.  Isn't there a New Vegas, and an Old Vegas?  In New Vegas you have the bright lights and the fancy tech, and in Old Vegas you have the classic machines and classic decor.  If so, then that would be a clear boundry for control between factions.  Wizards may be able to wander about in Old Vegas, but can't spend very much time in New Vegas or be discovered quickly from Technical Gliches.
