So many of us are extremely talented in so many ways that I thought I should start a virtual gallery so people could post links to their work and short descriptions.
My Photobucket (http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/?special_track=nav_tab_album) account has some great stuff and some silly stuff, from costumes I have made to calligraphy and illumination I have done. I also showcase work some of my friends have done.
My Scribal work is here (http://signet.eastkingdom.org/roster.php?scribe=79).
There are other links listed on that site that you can explore as well. Sort of like a treasure hunt.
Who will be next?
-
Okay so...*still blushing from Weird*
Orchids (http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/kk311/Heather_MrsGeek/Orchids/) There are with the exception of the first photo, all untouched. I have gotten a number of them color balanced and contrast/brightness corrected but haven't gotten them uploaded yet.
This (http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/The_Mrs_Geek/My%20work/) is a smattering of my work, most of it 35mm black and white. Again a growing collection as I get more negs scanned and put them through the digital darkroom. There are also a few of the touched up Orchids there.
-
Yay! (It is wonderful work.)
-
*snuggles Blaze* You already know I'm amazed by yours. I don't have nearly the patience you do.
-
I never realized it, but Bruce Willis would make a good Mac!
-
Yeah. I photoshopped that image from five different views. I am very proud of the reflections in the bar. (Made those images for folks in our Dresden RPG)
-
and we love her for it.
-
LOL *blush blush blush*
-
Since Tink asked, here's some of my stuff. Not nearly prizewinning quality, but I like it.
http://s272.photobucket.com/albums/jj191/Thumbelina137/Artsy%20stuff/
-
Very nice MSD!
-
You're too kind. Thank you. :-*
-
Gorgeous work, Tink! I'm particularly impressed with your black and white images. Blaze, your scribal work is exquisitely intricate. Bravo, both of you!
As for me, here (http://priscellie.deviantart.com/)'s my DeviantArt gallery. I only have a narrow segment of my photography there; the rest is here.
(http://theninemuses.net/art/photo/)Yeah. I photoshopped that image from five different views. I am very proud of the reflections in the bar. (Made those images for folks in our Dresden RPG)
Ooh? I'm not finding this image in your gallery! Link?
-
You're too kind. Thank you. :-*
Not too kind. :-*
Priscellie, color me impressed! and Thank you. I'm dieing from somewhere to develop my own photos again. Digital darkroom is nice my strength is in the real deal.
-
I like the black and whites Tink. I like the bike especially.
-
Thank you. That was actually one of the first photos I took for my first photography class.
-
Mac is here (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/mac2.jpg?t=1229542485)
Hope you like. ;D
-
MSD, those are terrific photos! I think my favorite is the swan rising behind the other swan, who is unperturbed. What a magic moment to have captured.
Priscellie, love your photography! The dino theme is great. Have you ever heard of the Royal Tyrrell Museum? Plan a trip there! Drumheller, Alberta, Canada. It is in the center of badlands. Gorgeous scenery, and phenomenal weather. They have live bone digs, and Drumheller is studded with dinosaur statues.
-
Thank you, Blaze. That was in Kensington Park back in Michigan... it's the beauty of Michigan I miss most.
-
I put my link up in Weird... And I figure I'll put it up before I get lost contemplating everyone elses work.
I have more pictures that I need to get online, I got some beautiful Autumn leaves this October before it snowed. And somewhere I have pictures of apple blossoms...
But these are my favorite gladiola pictures...
http://s499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/theliz13/Night%20Gladiolas%208-08/
-
Blaze... The fact that you got those shadows to look so authentic with PS is really a stroke of genius. *is a PS fanatic too*
I recently had to shop the family christmas photos... Let's just say out of 15, not ONE had me, hubby AND baby smiling... So I took the very best pic... and pasted in some heads. heh. IT was easy because the shadows were the same in all the pics, but Hubby walked in and saw me 'perfecting' the image, to the point you couldn't see the edges, watched silently for a while, then said "Remind me never to piss you off."
*smirks wickedly* It's a good thing I've never aspired to make anything... embarrassing... with my skills.
MSD... Prizes don't matter. Next to nothing I shoot is something people would PAY for, but since I shot it, I can see the subtle details that make it beautiful to me. I love your pictures. I lke the swans too, but my favorite is of the skyline lit up. I love architectural photography... *ponders* That reminds me, I really need to post my architectural pics from MileHiCon... not only did I meet Jim there, but the hotel was really neat.
Oh, and Priscellie, I'm highly jealous of the traveling you do... And very impressd by your pictures. The landscapes are fantastic. *hasn't had a chance to look at them all yet*
Edit to add: Tink... You're hubby's a cutie. And he has brains too? Lucky you! *wink* Again, I love your orchids. especially the bright yellow one, I'm a sucker for really radiant flowers.
-
*psst... that was Priscellie's stuff*
It's fantastic, isn't it?
-
There... Fixed it. *huggles MSD for saving her embarassment* I shouldn't confuse the Goddess with her Eyebrow.
Annnd... because I've had free time to be productive... More of my pics.
This is the Hyatt Regency Hotel in south Denver, that was kind enough to host Jim Butcher and the MileHiCon in October 2008. I loved the con... But I also loved the hotel. IT was steel construction, with three wings laid out at perfect angles to each other, and alots of blue glass, black steel, and open spaces.
http://s499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/theliz13/MileHiCon%20-%20Hyatt%20Hotel/
It was lovely... Oh, and the other thing, since it was steel... It moved a lot... I had a lot of vertigo, but not as much as my Hubby, who I scared half a dozen times when I'd stand and lean Waaay over the guardrail to get the perfect picture... Whaaaat? I was only 7 stories up. ;D
-
Edit to add: Tink... You're hubby's a cutie. And he has brains too? Lucky you! *wink* Again, I love your orchids. especially the bright yellow one, I'm a sucker for really radiant flowers.
Thanks and yes he's a smart one too. I got the full package really. ;D

Mac is here (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/mac2.jpg?t=1229542485)
Hope you like. ;D
DUDE. YES.
-
Wow! Everyone's stuff is awesome!
-
The Gladiolas are wonderful, so is the architectural stuff, Persephone, is that a Portman building?
Glad you liked Mac, Priscellie. Took me a while, but I think it was worth it.
I am glad that people are posting their work here. It is a good thing to share. It has me wondering if I should add an album of my cartoons. I do cartoons, mostly having fun with the SCA, or with any modern medieval juxtaposition.

Sunrise on the beach in Salvo, NC and the Hatteras Island light house...http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/The_Mrs_Geek/Sunrise%20Dec%2026%2008/
-
Oh wow, cool pix! I love the juxtaposition of the slate color of the ocean with the peachy colored sky, very dramatic. The truck is very funny, with the lights in the grill. LOL Tell us about the light house!
http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/newsletter%20art/ (http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/newsletter%20art/) Some ( a very small number) of the newsletter covers and art which I have done. One of the covers I painted and auctioned off as a benefit.
-
Wow is right!
-
For all of you that wondered that is on the outer banks of North Carolina. The truck is my uncle's. He happened to be driving up the beach and saw me. Except for the few minutes he stopped I was all alone as far as the eye could see with the just the sunrise, surf, sand and wind. It was wonderful.
The Lighthouse is the Hatteras Island Light, one of 4 down here. Pics of the other three coming soon. I have to shoot two of them tomorrow because it got dark before I got a chance today. Yay family highjinks. The second that I have and will post soon is the Ocracoke Island Light which is the second oldest working lighthouse in the US.
Anywhoo...that's all for now. Again Blaze, great work.
-
Thanks, I have been doing the February Cover of Pikestaff for 7 - 9 (?) years now. I also do other months, and other mags/newsletters, but doing the February Pikestaff is usually my favorite thing.
-
Additionally... Since they belong here... My modeling with fire photos.
(I did not take the pictures, or have any control over the camera... but they make me look purty)
http://s499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/theliz13/Mod%20-%20FirPhotos/
-
Tres cool!
-
And the last two lighthouses I could get to in order to photograph http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/The_Mrs_Geek/More%20Lighthouses/
The last one was a 3 hour ferry ride away...so yeah didn't go for that one this trip. :D
-
*shivers* Misty moisty morning there, huh? Nice pix despite the bad visibility.
-
The Gladiolas are wonderful, so is the architectural stuff, Persephone, is that a Portman building?
Blaze... I honestly could not tell you. It's a modern building. Hyatt Hotel in Denver... But I have no idea if the architect was in fact modeling it after a certain style. Heh. I came for Jim Butcher, and I stayed for the architecture.
I love your old english lettering and art! *forgive me if there's a certain name for it*
And... I'm posting it here, because I'm really proud of how this one came out... My daughter never holds still long enough for me to take her picture, but this one came out beautifuly... I'm going to print it for my wall.
The depth of field came out so nicely... I'm boggled.
-
Gorgeous! But how can it help but be gorgeous when the subject is so beautiful? ;)
There is a special name for what I do! That is calligraphy (the beautiful writing, which is the literal translation of the word) and illumination. Illumination being the drawing parts. Thank you, I am glad that you like it. I am actually only a mediocre calligrapher (or scribe) and feel my forte is the illumination part, but I like doing both, and so I do both.
The letter forms change according to where in history and geography they come from. There are better examples out there, and I hope that if you are interested will ask me for some URLS.

Meanwhile, in Chicago...

Lots of folks already know, but my online gallery's linked in my signature. Haven't added anything in quite a while, but then again, I haven't really done much drawing lately. I might add some stuff from work, though.

Sunrise on the beach in Salvo, NC and the Hatteras Island light house...http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm108/The_Mrs_Geek/Sunrise%20Dec%2026%2008/
Didn't know that you could build lighthouses sideways! ;D
David

Yeah I didn't rotate the pics before posting them. :P

Hey Blaze, is that something you were commisioned to do? That is very cool. It is hard to tell from the picture exactly how it was done, do you have a close up?
-
LOL -- No, I was not commissioned to do that, that is an npc character in the Dresden files RPG I play in. How'd I do it?
I took this image.
A back ground shot of the park that I copped off a Chicago tourism site (Public domain) and I photoshopped them together!
I wish I could say that I got Wachter to stand by the sign and hold still for me. LOL
-
(http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/Harry%20Dresden%20played%20by%20Hugh%20Jackman/wachter.jpg)
This is how Wachter started life. I sketched him because even with a good description I felt that the player characters could relate to him better if they actually saw him in a photo.

Nice work, Seph.
-
Thanks guys! *beamy* ;D ;D I actually have the original posted in earlier in this thread, in the MileHi folder.
I'm just having fun playing with my pictures now. I do my best work when there's no pressure.

Speaking of Photoshop...
Take one classic aircraft on display in the middle of a grassy lawn, never to fly again. Add one picture of the sky taken at an airshow, and shake until mixed:

One thing you'll find out here; we're terrifically non-competitive.
If we say it's great, that's because it is...we don't attach "...but So-and-so's is better" to comments like "Your drawings are excellent".
-
Very nice work Realquiet.
Thanks! I absolutely love your scribal work, by the way!
-
Thank you. And Tribs is correct, everyone's art has validity! I love seeing so many people having the courage to put it out there. I know it isn't always easy to share your "baby" with strangers.

That's certainly true. :)
I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes with my prior comment to Captain Hammer. He and everyone else in this thread are exceptional artists. :)
-
Oh you didn't step on anyone's toes. We just want you to know that we are all equals. Captain Hammer is more equal since he is Pharaoh.* LOL His artworks rock.
Hey and you should go to the fan art thread, which is in the Books section. It will knock your socks off!
* see the Weird threads! ;D

I doubt I could do as well with wildlife - I really like that pic.

Wow!
And that lower crane is especially gorgeous!
-
RQ the sketches are fantastic! I lack the manual dexterity to do anything good sketchwise, so I envy people who do that really well!
And because I did this completely by accident, and it looked so nice I kept it... My latest photoshop.

*huggle snuggles for Torv, MSD and Tribble* Thanks you guys!
Occasionally I wonder if there's a market for selling my photos, but I really have no idea how to do it. And there is a lot better stuff out there. I tend to just get lucky.
Oh and Tribble, I owe most of my neat accomplishments to a plugin created for photoshop by Nikon... It's sort of an extension of the camera software, it allows you to play with shados and saturation and exposure and W/B all in one window... AND it works on jpg! It's a free download off the Nikon site, and I'd recommend it for anyone playing with photoshop.
-

Have you looked into setting up a store on Etsy? It's free to have an account although I believe it costs something like 20 cents to post each item and that gets it listed for 4 months. Once the item sells they take 3.5% of the price. (That doesn't include shipping - you charge whatever you need to ship it). It could be a relatively inexpensive way for you to judge what kind of market you'd have.
You can sell photography via CafePress as well, but I think that has more limitations and less profit in the long run.

2 questions:
1. What version of 'shop are you running, as every Photoshop in the CS lineup has drop-down menus and adjustment doohickeys for shadows/saturation/white/black?
2. Would a Nikon product work nicely with Kodak piccies?
-
Hey, what happened to Seph's picture?

I'm presently using CS3... Friend loaned it to me when he upgraded to CS4. And I still use the existing tools, but I find the plugin has more subtle touches in it. That, and it puts ALL the tools in one little box. If you want to try it, it's free.
And the plugin works with any JPG or RAW. So if your Kodak exports as JPG it won't be a problem. I found a link to the latest plugin, but if you're running an older version, you can look up the plugin in the Adobe site.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
Blaze... It's still there I just put my name on it, and that changed the URL. (Cuz Photobucket is dum like that.)
Araneae... That's a good idea, I'll have to look into it. If anyone HERE wants a print, let me know! (I have a PRINTER! ;D )
-
Free it may be, but you still have to download it, yes?
On dial-up, the tiniest download can take a very long time...
-
my god, you guys are amazing. Just amazing. I wish I had talent like this.

Esper... I know it's probably been mentioned/discussed elsewhere, but I love your avatar. Izzat you in the coat?
And more to the topic... I haz a shiny to share... I love happy accidents. Like when something broken...
Becomes art!
I did two versions. This one in almost gray, and then another one in color. The scariest part about this was when my two year old was responsible for the breaking... Fortunately she didn't get near any broken glass!
-
Gorgeous. That is gorgeous.
-
Broken things make great photographs, I love it.
Abandoned junk makes good photographs too.
-
So I just posted a bunch of my photos on my Facebook page. Feel free to take a look! :)
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/album.php?aid=64304&id=704928269
-
And I wanted to make sure this didn't go unsaid... HOLY CRAP there are some great artists on this forum! The photography, drawing, and calligraphy stuff is just impressive. I didn't want to go back and comment on every single piece in the last 9 pages that made me say "holy crap," but HOLY CRAP!!!
-
Thankees Blaze!
Araneae I agree... When I was last in Illinois by the Mississippi (in Moline actually) I just wished I had both time and a car to myself so I could take pictures of a bunch of old abandoned Wharehouses near the waterfront. They were all rusting and falling apart... Just lovely.
Elise... I love your pictures. Especially the one of the Waterfall. Though I figure I should let you know the be careful what you put on Facebook. It still states in the EULA for Facebook photos that they TAKE the copyright from any photos they choose, and claim it as their property. So just be careful.
That said, I also admire your watermarking... Mayhap I should do something similar... Though as stated earlier, I've never prfited from my photos, so I'm not sure how paranoid I should be.
-
Thanks, Persephone!
From what I saw, they tried to take copyright possession of everyone's pictures last week. Apparently, Facebook has not yet made a profit, and can't even really cover its costs as of yet, so we're thinking they were planning on selling people's pictures as stock footage to make money. Hence, mine are in a low resolution and are watermarked. It would be easier just to leave my stuff the hell alone rather than try to take the watermarks out! I never put a picture online without watermarking it because you just don't know who will take it or why!
-
OH! I forgot the second part of my post, which is after the poo hit the fan about Facebook's new policy last week they quietly took that clause out and assured everyone they still own all their own stuff. If they were telling the truth, we should be good.
-
So I just posted a bunch of my photos on my Facebook page. Feel free to take a look! :)
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/album.php?aid=64304&id=704928269
Outstanding photos, Brooke. Friend invite incoming!
-
Yay! Thanks Shecky! Glad you liked em. Now I've got to get some of my older, better stuff up.
-
Gorgeous photography! It is a shame that you have to watermark everything.
The thing I don't like about facebook is that you have to be a member to look at anything. There are only so many pages that I want to be enrolled in, and I end up enrolling just to see pictures made by friends of mine.
-
Blaze,
Yeah, it is a shame... I tried to keep the watermark barely noticeable but still there. The owners of Facebook aren't the only people who could swipe one of my pics and sell it to a stock photograph site; anyone could really take one. That's why I kept the resolution on the pictures low so they can't be used for anything broadcast or printed. Glad you like them though!
Brooke
-
Beautiful pics Brooke! I love the animal shots. Where did you take them?
As a side note, did you see how many people are named "Harry Dresden" on facebook?
-
Thanks knnn :) The animal shots were done at the Pittsburgh Zoo on our last trip there. I never looked up how many Harry Dresdens on facebook actually... but it seems to me there would be alot!! lol
-
People who steal and profit from the work of others are scum. Lower than scum. They are worm castings.
-
I agree Blaze... I've actually started watermarking my best work, though it saddens me to do it. It always looks so much better unblemished.
But for anyone who's interested... I've updated my site.
http://s499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/theliz13/
I have new pics in the Autumn leaves section, from last Oct. a few new ones in the Photoshopped section. Oh, and the fire pics I've done are there in the Mod section. (For the record, I was going to put them under 'modeling' but I kindof hate that word, plus I didn't want them to be that accessible under the photobucket keyword search)
-
OMG -- I am such a sucker for Autumn leaves, and those are wonderful!
-
*grins* Thanks Blaze!
Hey, tell y'all what... If I get a photo sales site up, and you see anything you like, I'd be happy to mail out prints. Just the thought that someone would actually want to hang my stuff on their wall would be thrilling.
-
I would be honored! I am pleased to say that all the art works that hang in my house are original pieces, and were given to me by the artists.
Two notable exceptions: A poster of the Sagrada Familia (By Gaudi) which my best friend brought me from Madrid. And my Murphy's Law plaque, which my Mom gave me when I was thirteen. (poetic, 13th birthday, Murphy's Law.)
That was lovely of you to think of doing that. Thank you!
-
Hey guys, if anyone would like to take a look, Tribblechomper took three of my photos and photoshopped them into one. You can see what he did here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=67997&id=704928269
I thought it was a good collaboration! :)
-
No Facebook login :'(

Oops! That's right... well, he's going to be putting a link to it on his own website as well. His site is www.photoshoplifterdan.com, but I'm not sure if it's up yet. :)

Thank you!
NP... I just apprciate being thought of as 'an artist'... by anyone! So once I get things underway, (I'll prolly PM at that point) I'll let you pic your favorite. If you want a 5x7 I can even include a frame, but right now I'm only set up to print up to 8.5x11 at home, anything larger and I'd have to outsource.
*huggles* I'll keep you posted.
Also... *applauds Tribbles awesome work again* Tribs, you rock!
-
OMG those are great photoshops. I did one today, I will upload it as soon as the surprise it is for is over. Or earlier if my inner five year old wins.

I haven't done much art lately... I'll be checkin out your work Brooke.
But for all the other photography enthusiasts...
I've decided to save up and buy a Nikon D80. Half because I can borrow my best friends lenses! :D
But the hardest part now is waiting until I get the money saved... WAITING IS HARD!
Especially since I keep seeing deals online MSRP is $800. There was a site that offered a 3 day sale where I COULD HAVE gotten it for $309. GAHH!
I wish I had money NOW!
-
Hope you like 'em Persephone! I think the ones I posted the first time are better, but the ones I put on tonight are okay, I think.
As far as money... there is a mini-DV camera I want on clearance at target. I know it's a good camera because we have the same one at work, but even so, it's hard to justify spending $160 when I can just borrow one from work for the night. The still camera I used to take the pics on my FB page was a $300 one. The pictures are really good but it doesn't have the detachable lenses. It DOES have one hell of a zoom though, as you'll see from the pictures of the lake and its surroundings. I took those from about a half mile to three quarter mile away, and they came out pretty nice.

I love the pink orchid on the first page... Maybe it's not new, but I like it! :) That and I really like the waterfall at night. Where is that?
And as far as me getting an SLR... I'm sortof in the same boat, I have a pretty good Kodak Digital, zooms okay, and does surprisingly good macros, so I don't NEED a new camera... But I've always WANTED a DSLR. So in Hubby's words,
"If you're going to get a new camera, it better be something you'll live with for a LONG time. There's no point in spending $300 on a camera if its not the one you really want."
So that said... I don't even have 300 yet... It'll take me a while to get that much... BUT I HAVE A DREAM! I just hope I don't run into any major financial issues in the meantime.

We had an SCA event on April 11th and created another subtlety (aka solteltie, meaning food art) It was a castle, 100% edible!

Thanks! I had a lot of help with the marzipan sculpture.

Persephone, I'm sorry, I didn't see your question about the orchid and waterfall until just now! The orchid was shot at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, and the waterfall is The Big One... Niagara Falls from the American side. Don't let the pretty colors fool you... it was 38 and raining when that picture was taken! lol I thought it came out pretty cool, though.

I am not very artistic, in any sense of the word. But for a living I do 3D design and fabrication. This is one of my first attempts at this particular design. I am currently working on a more elaborate one with a more intricate back as well as etching and scrolling on it. My medium was steel, in particular a 2"x2"x.120wall piece of tubing 24' long.

That is cool, Seth. I can't even figure out how it is all one piece. Did you cut one side at a time from a square?
-
Its cut from a piece of tubing. I just cut way the parts I didn't want. You cut away the pack first, that way there is more stability before the metal gets too hot and starts to expand. The seat of the chair is the only place that the tube remains uncut all the way around. I hope that makes sense... ???
-
Hey, just like sculpture! Nicely done

Doll sized, approx 4inches tall

This, along with the pics, says you are an artist; were you not, this would be some slapped-together mess instead of what looks to me like something put together by someone who cares a great deal about the finished product (we call these people "artists")

:D Just never imagined that to be a panic attack miles under the surface of the earth.
Thanks Y'all!
-
*crawls out of the netherworld* Fantastic pictures WSF! *huggles* Though being freaked out below the earth is fairly natural, there tends to be a heavier pressure in enclosed underground pressure, and with the lack of moving air, it can make your senses start to freak out.
-
Great cave pictures! I think I've been to Luray before, but it was when I was younger.
I don't recall it ever being an issue in "developed" caves, but I remember when I used to cave I'd have to hold my breath to take a picture or the flash would reflect off of my breath and the picture would be foggy. :D
-
I love Luray Caverns! We went there when I was about twelve, and I still remember the "fried egg" formation! I'm gonna go look at your pics now!
-
Great pics, Tink! :)
-
I was having a royal panic attack by the fried egg formation and Hubby was too concerned for me to take pictures.
The last time I had been there was a 5th grade field trip. It's been fun to look at my old photos and see what's changed in 14 years. (In the caverns that is)

As far as big girls (like me) go. Well the model I used is from a fashion design contest I entered on a game I play. And I keep doing them on the same model so if they have another contest I already have them on it. I couldn't find a way to put comments on them after I was finally able to get them all uploaded. (My web browser kept freezing up.) And honestly, I haven't really thought about fabrics on some of them. I've just been doing the designs. :)

Oh I've changed quite a bit, but no I'm not that much taller than I was back then. I topped out at 5'5"

Ma work.

I never realized it, but Bruce Willis would make a good Mac!
For Mac, I like Brian Cox (Argyle in 'Braveheart', Col. Stryker in 'Xmen II', etc).
Tell me you don't want this man to slide you a homebrew and a steak sandwich.

Lovely work Hawthorn, and thanks for publishing it here. *HUGS*
BfP: No, he is too scary. I wouldn't. ;D
-
Thanks Blaze, and I have to agree with you against BfP.
-
That face says to me: Broken kneecaps.
-
Or "Need laxatives."
-
Go watch Braveheart and listen to that man's beautiful grunt again.
And I always thought of Mac as being really intimidating. Maybe he just really intimidated me...
-
Oh, it just occurred to me that Cox's real destiny is to play McCoy anyway...after Braveheart, that's how it should be, dammit.
McCoy:(Scottish Dialect creeping in) First, learn to use... (taps young Harry's head)...this.
Then, I'll teach you to use...(holds up an oak staff) this.

Resurrecting this thread - Cause a few people have expressed an interest in
my jewelry and photos.

Critques are welcome
-
Nice work, how long do the fetish dolls take for you to make?
Have you ever crocheted the seed beads? You can get the most amazing ropes that way! Thanks for resurrecting this thread. Seems like the board spends too much time on TouchyTopics, and not enough admiring the skill of people who create beauty.
-
^agrees with Blaze. Awesome work Mouse! I can't wait to see more and to get some pic of my jewelry up!
Let's see more pictures from everyone of their awesome skills!
-
Blaze,Chiana- Thank you both very much.
Blaze - the dolls take 50-60 hours each depending on how many interruptions I get. I have pictures of some
others that I need to post.
I've been meaning to tell you the I love your calligraphy and illuminations they are purely gorgeous.
Chiana - Hurry and put your work up! I wanna see it!
As I avoid the TT thread like the plague I heartily agree with the thought that we shoudl spend more time admiring each
others creativity.
-
M... I love your pictures of the beach!
And as far as this thread goes I'm hoping to post more pictures here soon. I just got a new camera. *still over the moon about it* So I would love to get feedback.
And yeah, I'd love to hear actual criticism if there's anything I need to improve upon!

Here is one of my biggest ever beading projects!

-
Blaze - That is beautiful work! Do you happen to remember what size beads
you used?
Also - I got photos of the rest of the dolls up Saturday if you want to see them.
Persephone - Thanks - I'm pretty happy with those beach photos myself, trying to catch
the waves at exactly the right moment is a lot of fun.
-
gorgeous gorgeous work, both of you!
The beads were seed beads and bugles, the seed beads were 11s and 12s.
This is what I meant by a crocheted bead rope:
Those are also seed beads, and the rope is wonderful! Smooth, and almost like a snake skin in texture,
-
Blaize - First thanks again.
Second - that's a lovely piece of work. I've seen and handled crocheted
bead ropes - in fact I have 2 that are about 60 years old. But, I don't
crochet so I've never made one. I keep thinking that I ought to learn. :D
-
Yes, you should learn, because they are a relatively easy thing to make, and you would use them all the time in your work!
*hugs*
-
I'm not entirely lame after all, I managed to find the thread!
Anyway, my name is Shadra, I'm new here, I draw things. I was pointed o'er this way from Introductions and figured I ought to get some opinions on some current work.
If you want to see older stuff I haven't updated in a while, I'm afraid to admit that they're all fully visibly online at http://shadrad.deviantart.com/.
Due to the unfortunate nature of my work-surfing environment I can't upload my images like a decent web-savvy person to a given FTP site, and apparently I can't upload them here either, so I guess you're stuck seeing my old stuff :( boo. I'll try to upload something from home tonight, though, if I can remember.
-
Nice stuff Shadrad!
-
Thanks!
And now that I'm home, I can actually share what I wanted to share, which was this:
You can follow a direct link here: http://pics.livejournal.com/shadrad/pic/0012qdkk for a bigger size, as this forum automatically shrinks them (thank goodness)
Anyway, It probably looks funny and a little too murky/dark because it's only half done, but what I'd actually really like from the folks here (since one assumes a majority are the fantasy-inclined) are some ideas of what kinds of patterns to put on the domes of the jellyfish. I'd really like something that looks distinctly abnormal, but I've yet to find anything that really calls to me.
It's been suggested I try some celtic knotwork but I don't think I'm quite -that- insane, but without other ideas I may be left no choice. Still, can anyone suggest anything?
-
Calligraphy? You can use calligraphy to make statements on the domes of your excellent jelly fish.
-
I love you work. You wouldn't happen to a Pisces? (I am and I love your work.)

I *love* jellyfish! Our local aquarium has a decent jelly exhibit. They are so peaceful to watch.
How about some fractals. Math is the universal language right?
(http://www.google.com/images?q=tbn:PA8YYHpx2ayGsM::fusionanomaly.net/fractals.jpg&h=94&w=125&usg=__yFDkfGjp6ZQ4WY5MPhoxVQLnoIA=)
I would imagine that Atlantis would have had an elvish looking script, very fluid language, so the calligraphy angle works too.

The bee's are purty... and fuzzy and buzzy too. I also love the birdie piccy.
I cannot really compete with bees... I haz a few ladybugs in my collection tho.
Today I come to share something different. I haz a happy. There's a building I've often driven past at night, and I finally have a good photo of it.

There's something I just love about stairs. And these just glow, all by themselves, pointing at the street.
I'm sure there's a metaphor in there somewhere.

M... That's beautiful. What both amazes, and causes me to question my amazement, is how somewhere so incredibly far away from me, can still look so similar and familar to places I see near home.
Love it! :)

One of the lessons I've learned in living overseas is that sometimes the places and people
you expect to be the most alien are actually the most similar and those you'd expect to
be similar can at times be the most alien.

Sometimes I think my coworkers ARE aliens. ;) :D But seriously, I agree. I feel a little... uncultured... given that I've never gone overseas. The thought of being in a country where no one understands what I'm saying frightens me. But there are times when I see so many amazing things, that I hope someday to conquer that hurdle and travel. Someday! I hope!
-
Seph - I speak very little Russian. When I first went overseas I only spoke English and high school
Spanish, my first overseas country was Italy....I learned then that if you learn a very few words,
(please, thank you, etc.) and are polite and smile a lot, especially if you can laugh at yourself then
you'll be treated well by the majority of the people you meet.
Also, you might be surprised at the number of people who speak a little English now days...in Western
Europe English has taken the place of French as the most common language spoken by people from
different countries.

In my experience, seeing Italy and France in person was worth the effort of learning some Italian and French. :)

*Recalls her freshman French Teacher teaching her to say: "Je suis Canadienne" LOL* I am American, but in 1972, apparently you just shouldn't say that in France. :o
I love the pictures people! and that falcon is so wonderful to see. Here in Kingston NY we actually have an established colony of Bald Eagles! It used to be a rarity to even find an eagle, but now, you can see half a dozen if you go down by the River. So wonderful. And Wild Turkeys and Red Tail Hawks, and we are a city, people. Smallest city in NY State.
I have traveled a lot, and found that most people are nice, friendly and willing to be your friend if you are willing to be theirs.
Thank you all for being so generous and sharing your art!

I love the Farmers' Market...don't you?
-
YAY! Great pics TC - I miss the open Markets! There's one here but it's not the same, very Sovietski.
-
In Soviet Russian produce picks you?
-
Close VERY close - it certainly watches you! :D
-
;D
-
TC, those are beautiful!!!! So colorful they make my eyes want to bleed happy blood!!! :D
I took some more pictures at the Pittsburgh Conservatory with my cell phone, and I'm pretty happy with them!! For those of you with FB accounts, check this link:

Everyone here is so talented! Brooke, I'll post comments once I can get my browser to stop being stupid. (I haz to reboot)
TC... I love the way you capture the light and colors so naturally. My favorite had to be the tomatoes. They looked noms! ;) And the light and shadows were awesome too.
-
Wonderful! All of you!
-
So this is probably as good a place as any to ask... I'm thinking of setting up a DeviantArt.com account to showcase and possibly sell some photos. I just wonder if anyone here has tried them. Mostly I'm weight the pros and cons between them, Etsy, and setting up a private site and trying to finangle the sales on my own.
I don't even know if anything will sell... but, with all the time I have on my hands now, I figure I could at least try it. I just need a cost effective solution.
ANY advice would be welcome!
-
Ask the Pharaoh! He sells stuff on Deviant Art!
-
Beautiful pics and great work, everyone!
TC, I agree with onlyelise about the colors - very vivid!!
onlyelise, that is an awesome pic from a cell phone!! I'll have to check out your others when I get home - we no getz da facebook at work :P
-
Well, its not really paint and canvas art, but I've been selling for a while with good success, I make custom Lightsabers!

Hope you like!
-
Wow. Those look tres cool.
-
I was instructed (read commanded) by Aine to post a linky here to some stuff.... I didn't even realize this thread existed :)
For those interested though, my deviant account has a few of my 'favorites' but not all of my scribblies..
http://ahrrie.deviantart.com/
I might try and update that with some older stuff too.. maybeh..
-
Those are great! Do you do any Dresden Fan art? We have a thread for that too.
Thank you for sharing.
-
Nice work, Ahrrie!
-
I haven't done any Dresden fanart, but that doesn't mean I won't start :)
Thanks for the compliments guyz :D
-
Great stuff! Confusion is my favorite...any chance of seeing a Super Murphy sketch in the future? I'll be the first in line. :)

This swing is on my maternal grandmother's family farm. When I was a kid it was a tire swing, but I just love the tree and the picture surprised me with it's simple beauty.
-
and this is Gerhart. He entertained us on the train ride from Honesdale to Lackawaxen. He was quite funny and has been playing on the train for 30 years.

Those are great pix! Thanks for sharing.
-
you're welcome. There's more to come :D
-
I love your work Heather! Especially the tree... It's lovely.
I'm currently in the process of building a site for my photos. Though I thought it would go a lot faster before I discoverd I can only upload one photo at a time. :-\ Eh... I'll ford through. At least it's free!
-
I need to upload the color corrected photos or I should say, color balanced photos. It was either really gray and cloudy or extremely sunny in all my photos so they needed some tweeking.
-
Anything scanned in tends to need color correction. I mean, light, coming from behind the image! Amazing.
-
Oh no, these are all digital images. :D I didn't have my polarizer with me on the bright sunny days. All those extras for the camera and I forgot to take 'em with me.
-
LOL, I mean on the screen, all images have light coming at you. Because they are on a screen, not on paper.
-
Okay... posted on Facebook, and twitter, and of course it must be posted here.
I have a photo site. Please support my starving artisty by even taking a look.
Thanks!

-
Seph, great stuff... I love it especially the pictures from Gallery 1 and the Little Bit pics from Gallery 3...
-
And for those of you who really can afford to do a little patronization in the BUY HER STUFF sort of way would be nice too!!
(Just stating the obvious, to help a starving artist along.) ;)

-
That s terrific Tribs. thanks for sharing.
-
LC Thanks! Everyone seems to love the picture of Lilbit! I'd spend more of my time photographing her if she didn't make it so hard! :D Kids are the hardest thing to get good pictures of, but it makes that one good picture all the more priceless.
I do have one really good picture of her, but it's sort of like my Mona Lisa, I'm loathe to display it just yet... I'm not sure if I'm ready to share it.
Tribble... That's a really awesome picture! I can't scetch to save my life and I env those who can. Plus I love all the different elements. Reminds me of the really old school sci-fi covers.
-
Oh, come on! Now you HAVE to show us that picture of your daughter!! Come on, cough it up!
-
aha, thanks for showing me this blaze. you want me to post it here too?
-
Nope, just a link will do. That way people can click to find it, and we don't take up excessive bandwidth for the site!
-
makes sense. thanks again.

And this is only cuz YOU asked Blaze! *indignant eyebrow*
-
OMG!!! How adorable! Look at that profile.
Move over Shirley Temple. ;D
-
Tribblechomper, nice strange universe, I love it...
Sean, not bad at all your sketch, keep it coming ;)
And Seph, I can't begin to tell you how wonderful LittleBit looks like in that picture...
-
Thank you Lavi! And you too Blaze.
A lot of work went into getting it to look that way. Cropping and focus and blurring the background. It's always been my favorite for the ethereal quality to the background.
-
And ws all know what it is like to get a two year old to NOT look directly at the camera and burst into a HUGE grin.
-
TC- Interesting picture!
Seph - that's an adorable shot of Lil'Bit!
Sean - Good work, as LC said keep them coming.
-
thanks guys. workin on a piece right now.
-
Can't wait!

I sell my stuff at Zazzle which is a good place to see alot of my newer stuff:
http://www.zazzle.com/elledeegee*
But I post alot of it here as I make it too: http://lehsa.deviantart.com
I also have various other sites I post on but those are my main ones I post the newer stuff on.
My main site is here with links to most of the places I post my art at: http://www.elledeegee.net

I like "Fishy (http://www.elledeegee.net/exps/exps31.html)" best from the Blue Girl site.
This image i (http://www.flickr.com/photos/elledeegee/1640508845/)s National Geographic good! Although there is a lot of good stuff in your Flickr account. Well done. The cobweb... and more.
Lots of cool stuff on your deviant art site. I don't think I could choose, but this one.... I like it: Recon (http://fc07.deviantart.net/images3/i/2004/127/2/e/Recon.jpg)
Great stuff, J3nnee! Thank you for sharing.

J3nnee... I love the butterfly in takeoff too. The one Blaze liked. Amazing luck with that. It's lovely!
-
Thanks :D

So anyone who has been paying attention knows that for the past number of years I do the February cover for Pikestaff, the Official Newsletter of the East Kingdom. 2010's cover will be in color!
The working title is "Eastern Hospitality" but the real subject is "how to treat your seneschal" The guy in the tub is my hubby. and I am the toots with the loving cup. My oldest son is scrubbing his dad's arm, and the blonde is Aphrodite. The part of scullery wench was played by an extra....
-
Blaze - Gorgeous! I'd frame that and hang it on my walls!
-
SO happens that I am going to be auctioning it off to benefit Toys for Tots. I may also attempt to get some tee-shirts made and sell those to benefit toys for tots too.
I really like how it turned out.
Plus, I just realized that this is at least my eleventh year of doing the February cover!
Glad that you like it.
Now I can go start on that nude of Thomas and Harry that Ms. Duck asked me to do.
-
NUDE Thomas and Harry! :o
I wanna see that one too!
-
Makes a note. Why do I think I will get even more requests for copies of this next piece than I did for the last one? LOL
-
o:
How about nude female characters ;)
But, seriously, that is a very cool pic!
-
Well, how about them? Other people do them! You should look up the fan art master thread. I only do nude male characters because the rest of these fine ladies pointed out a deficit there to me.
My first male (almost) nude was Waldo playing the accordion. (Which is why he made me put boxers on him.)
-
Amazing, amazing work everyone! I'm so jealous!!
-

Fox Henge
An edible work of sculptural art, mostly made of Marzipan, although the pond is sugar (melted and retextured to be like a pondish sugar cube.)
More Fox Henge pix here: http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/Dancing%20Fox%20XII/ (http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc139/blazeorama/Dancing%20Fox%20XII/)
-
Yum! Looks amazing! I'd feel guilty eating anything that looked that good.
You so rock Blaze!
-
But that is what it was made for! To be eaten. At least now, with digital technology, I have photos of it. I can not tell you how many transient pieces of food art I have made of which no visual record exists. It is that ephemeral quality which makes it art!
-
So since people on this board have been motivating me, I took my camera with me on my drive up through the woods, and stopped just at Sundown to snap a few pictures.
Interestingly enough my very last picture of the day was my favorite.
At a ranch just outside of town, the antique wagon and windmill looked lovely in the fading light.
-
Oh maaaan, that is a great photo. I can smell the earth and feel the air... Brava!!
-
We got a bunch of snow (for this area) two weekends ago and these are some of the things I captured with a Canon Rebel XTi digital SLR
(http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac135/PhotoFaerie/tiretracks.jpg)
-
Thank you Blaze! ;D ;D I need to fix up my site, and if you would like a print let me know!
Love the ice Ink Slinger! Lovely focus!
-
Thank you. Macro function on the telephoto lens is fun. The icicle dripped from part of the siding to my mailbox on the porch. So it was maybe 1/2 inch to an inch long and a 1/4 inch thick.
-
I especially like the icicle picture! It has a cavern quality to the structure of the ice that makes it seem otherworldly. Especially with no reference to scale.
Keep up with the good works everyone!
And, Seph, I would love a print!
-
Nice pics guys!
:D
-
Thank you Dreamweaver!
-
As promised elsewhere, some of my shots from Colonial Williamsburg

-
Some day I am gonna have to get to COl. Wmsburg. Lovely photos! Thank you for sharing them.
-
You really should. It's a lot of fun and if you don't mind just looking at buildings (not in) and eavesdropping on the people in colonial dress giving talks then you can do it for FREE. There are several buildings/shops you can go in without the patriot pass, but you do need it to see things like the Capitol Building and Governor's Mansion.
Weather wise the best time to do it is April/early May as long as you don't mind dodging elementary school groups there on field trips. The end of the season is Sept/Oct which is another good time to come because both those periods aren't stifling hot.
-

Fox Henge

I could so eat that! After an appropriate amount of admiration of course! :D
Awesome pics everyone!
-
It was yummy! and Chiana, Welcome back!!!
-
I went to my cousin's first ever T-ball game yesterday. Got some great shots.
-
HOw adorable! Great shot, Inky!
-
Thanks. While the other team batted they put my cousin in the catcher's gear. It was too hilarious!
And I have to say, not much touching went into the shots either. The light was perfect!
Same day I did some portraits for my dad so he'd have a current photo for his bio on his webpage.
This one was my favorite. (http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk311/Heather_MrsGeek/Portraits/choice1.jpg)
-
Blaze... This ones for you.
My first attempt at edible art. Nummy white chocolate easter noms.
I can't eat chocolate anymore, so this is one of THOSE holidays where I've felt left by the wayside.
So I got the stuff to make my own WHITE chocolate candy.
Made with melted tollhouse white choc. chips.
Plus making these was SO fun! You literally PAINT with CHOCOLATE. Even Lilbit (who's 3 now) got to help.
-
Oh I love those! I am so glad you got to be creative and make white chocolate!
-
It was awesome. And very yummy. I think I'll be finding any excuse to make more... So I can be eating them. ;D
-
You made me Homesick! I used to be able to walk/bus to Colonial Williamsburg! :D
-
Aw, I'm sorry I made you homesick! I'm about 45 min from there now myself. I plan on heading up again some weekend soon. Sno to Go is callin' my name.
