DFRPG / Intimidation aoe
« on: October 27, 2011, 02:45:44 PM »
Greetings, I was wondering if making an intimidation check, say, a dragon roaring, would be a aoe attack (-2) or one would need a stunt for something like this.

If it can be sprayed, it wouldn't be fair, because when spraying, the weapon damage stays the same with the attack being divided.

Also that pesky common sense comes to mind...

DFRPG / Equal-standing combat, how to fix?
« on: September 07, 2011, 08:34:41 AM »
Think of two melee warriors each with Weapons 4. Assume they have no fate points left and have 4 physical stress boxes with empty consequences.

Now run a simulation of them fighting. There are basically in a stand still, as only the dice determines who gets a stronger/weaker attack and a weaker/stronger defense.

I had a PC and an NPC fighting in a duel in this way and after 5 rounds, no stress was taken. Which made the duel silly.

How can I fix this situation?

DFRPG / Swarms
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:47:29 AM »
Hello, how do you define a swarm? Comparing it to D&D mechanics or common sense.

We fought a swarm of Toot-toot-like creatures and there were about 24 of them. Each of us has 4 on our heads and each attacked with poison claws aka poison tipped toothpicks.

But this is not satisfactory, as a swarm has several properties than just x identical members each on his own turn.

One way would be to just consider the swarm a monstrous sized creature, perhaps with physical immunity of catch being spray attacks and aoes. But how would these two forms of attack work? nr of creature * shifts/creature?

How do you roll defense for each member? Supposed you have 1000 bees in a swarm and you fireball them. If the "creature" rolls over your attack, it takes NO stress? Each bee dodged it and lived?

A swarm is not that uncommon, especially in the Nevernever, where we will spend some time, chances of pixie swarms is high and we would like some sort of a system to have a fair combat instead of overwhelming odds against us.

DFRPG / Solutions to nerf Fly
« on: August 24, 2011, 06:22:18 PM »
Since one can just fly a zone upwards and shoot downwards until the enemy is dead, also making one immune to melee attacks, Fly is OP at just -1 cost.

My friend had the brilliant idea to add another skill called Flight for one that purchases Fly. Of course, assisted with some trappings, like fly-by attacks and perhaps using another skill to limit the Flight skill.

For example:
Athletics, for angelic wings.
Conviction for Green Lantern sort of flight source.
Craftsmanship for jet pack (say an item of power).
Lore for some sort of passive magic effect (something I would expect from Leanasidhe).
Etc...

I am adding the need to raise Fly to -2.

Your thoughts?

I have Thaumaturgy and decided to put the specialization on controlling Conjuration.

Now, I want to make an enchanted leather duster like Dresden has. I found on page 281 about Crafting Specialization that you can choose either Strength or Frequency, so I chose Strength.

My DM says that there is only one specialization for either Control or Complexity for conjuration or wards etc, OR Strength or Frequency for enchanted items, but I say these are two separate things.

The discussion also involves the debate whether enchanted items belong exclusively to Thaumaturgy; or if you only have Evocation, could you make a ring of force like Dresden has? If you could, then the Crating Specialization is in effect, when you don't have Thaumaturgy, which makes Crafting Specialization and Thaumaturgy Specialization two separate things.

We await your input, thanks.

DFRPG / Cooking - Crafting or Scholarship?
« on: August 05, 2011, 06:51:47 AM »
Hi, I am working on a plate-mancer, who basically uses Spirit or Air to spin plates and focus on zone wide/spray attacks.

He is an Italian chef in New York, 2 generations down. Not a guido, thank you. And is has "Cooking is an art" as Background.

Now, he is a chef, a very good one. He uses his catering service for social events, everybody is nice to the chef or suffer stomach pains in his hellish revenge. The problem is that I am unsure if cooking is Crafting or Scholarship.

If its Crafting, he should also be good at fixing a car, which is not really obligatory.
If its Scholarship, I can assume he went to some sort of a cooking college, but it would mean he knows about Rembrandt and astrophysics & stuff which is again, not obligatory for a chef.

I assume that using a stunt based on a low level Scholarship, similar to the Doctor stunt, but I would like more suggestions, as I would not want to spend too many refresh points since he is a caster, he will eat most of them.

His name is Luigi  ;D 8)

DFRPG / Updated DFRPG
« on: August 03, 2011, 01:11:32 PM »
Hello, I wish to ask if the good boys and girls at evilhat will update the two books for up to, including Ghost Story. All this ghost stuff is good lore and interesting mechanics I would love to see
(click to show/hide)

Also to be included player suggestions and new powers and abilities, and clearer rules, such as whether glamor minor/major cause hexing or if you can bank skillpoints once spent, to name a few.

I would love to buy said edition as a collector's version.

DFRPG / Whom do I give a Fate Point when I do an AOE?
« on: July 26, 2011, 12:51:13 PM »
Hello, this occurred several times in our sessions, the enemy would do an AOE of some sort, like a cloud of acid, and he would use 1 Fate Point to summon enough power.

The question is, who does that Fate Point go to? Our DM gave it to the only one that was damaged, but what if all of us gets damaged?
Does the enemy lose 1 FP and we each get 1 FP?

If the enemy uses one fate point, and we each use 1 FP to defend, does he lose 1 and gain 1 from each of us?

DFRPG / Enchanted item block, 1 use or one round?
« on: July 25, 2011, 10:52:00 AM »
I would like to know if a "leather duster" with say, 7 block can be used once a round or once a defense?
Block rules say the block holds until it expires or it is overwhelmed (when it shatters or something), but such a thing does not come from a spell, but from an enchanted item block.

One could argue that its a spell in an item, should remain one round.
On the other hand, one could say that for each attack there is a separate defense.

Logically I would say that it should last one round because since the enchanted item block -> permanent armor got nerfed to dust, this would balance it out a bit.

DFRPG / Forgetting skills.
« on: July 24, 2011, 08:23:34 PM »
Hello, I have a question here. Is it possible to forget a skill? and take the skillpoint value for the other ones?

For example, I have a +2 skillpoint and 4 skillpoints of +1. I would want to sell 2 of the +1, and but another +2 skillpoint, thus having 2 of +2 and 2 of +1.

Any pro or contra arguments are welcome. Personally I think that the human nature to forget things should cover skills. Aspects do change, even if the same number of them remain, and so does the number of skillpoints.

If you are pro unlearning skills, which milestone would be minimal for this change?

DFRPG / Judge Dredd's Lawgiver gun - help me balance it.
« on: June 06, 2011, 12:15:01 PM »
Hi, I made this gun for my character. He is a refresh 8 caster with channeling: spirit and thautamargy, and is a gunslinger. he is gonna be a white wizard soon, and i want this as an item of power for him to compensate the limited spellcasting. As we recently met Tittania and went into the big leagues, my team mates will get mytic level powers, and maybe some sort of physical or magical immunity, I think this gun will balance it out.

Please tell me about how to fix it, our GM
