Author Craft / Help needed: Good song for a vampire stripper
« on: February 28, 2010, 07:45:37 PM »
I'm writing a kind of Twhinelite/Dresden Files/Yami no Matsuei crossover/mash-up, which involves a motley team of preternatural investigators doing some undercover work at a "gentleman's club" in Chicago. This includes the one girl on the team, who's a kind of low-key White Court vampire/energy vamp getting a job as a stripper. She's kind of playing up the vampire part of her nature ("Oh, I'm one of those vampire lifestyle people, but don't worry, it's just a personal kink and my boyfriend is my donor, so it's all safe.") as part of her cover. I'm just stuck as to what would be a good song for her to strip to; one or two of the songs on the "True Blood" soundtrack album work, but since they're a bit on a Southern rock wave-length, I was trying to think of something not quite so regional. Any thoughts?

Translation?
From American English (the Author)
To UK English
then back?
I know it's a process.. but really the manuscript was done at the same time.  Why should it be 4 months earlier in the UK

I thought you mentioned an edition in the Netherlands somewhere... :: Puzzled, goes back, re-reads the original post::

I think it has something to do with translations and with international publishers getting the nod from the IP holders to start printing. It probably has something to do with scheduling and queuing print runs, etc. It's a process, it takes time.

:: Applauds Kali:: I admit I haven't been posting a whole lot, for a number of reasons, but the main one is simply that I haven't had anything substantial to say lately, due to many factors, least of which being that I've been busy in other fandoms. Doesn't mean that I've left TDF, or that I have no interest in Alera (which I need to get caught up on: read the first three books and got the last three, just haven't had the impetus to read them since I've been on an anime kick lately), it just means I've had other fannish priorities. I will admit that the more heated discussions started getting to me and I felt like saying "Hey, who made you the keeper of the mythos? :: Laughs:: " , but it wasn't the main reason I've been lurking more than posting lately. :: Looks at the two or three dub anime sites open in several tabs ::

I will confess that I've been staying away from speculation on Changes, mostly because I'm a bit skeptical about some of the things Jim's bringing to the table in it. No reflection on Jim or the folks discussing these "Changes", but more a reflection of my own personal doubts. I'd rather wait and see what he comes up with, rather than make guesses about it.

But what about all the Terminator and Robocop fanfic writers ?

Heh, that's the exception that helps define the rule...

Ugh... I'm a total virgin, but even I know sex ain't like what they're describing. Gaaah... if it were, it would turn anyone with sense into a celibate and we'd have to start growing babies in bottles like in Brave New World.

Anyone who uses the word "pistons" in a sex scene has to turn in their creative license, stat.

Whoops, forgot about the purple bar -- though I probably could have waited for it. :: laughs:: I'll be poking at this one for a while yet, but 51K words in three weeks, while holding down a job and doing what I usually do is not to be sniffed at!

51K as of Sunday night/Monday morning. I doubt I'll write more at this point, since I am now smack in the middle of Thanksgiving week at work, and that means it's a madhouse, plus I need to feed some of the unrelated plotbunnies that showed up during the month...

40K and I'm trying to get the next 1,667 words cranked out... but I seem to have lost my momentum >.< I've got some longhand stuff I need to type up, but I don't seem to have the impetus to do that. :: Growls at self::

38,008. I took a bit of a half day yesterday since I worked a longer than usual shift and I needed the break. Hopefully I can catch up today. I'd like to get as much done as I can, since next week is Thanksgiving week and it's going to be a madhouse at work...

This has inspired me to dig up my homemade half-gloves (ie. regular light cotton work gloves with the fingertips nipped out) and put them on when I type.

Heh, that sounds a bit like where I'm at. I had a busy day yesterday between going to Cambridge to pick up an anime movie DVD I had had my eye on and running some errands with my folks, but I somehow managed to get up to 31K early this morning. And now a plot bunny for a cracked Twilight/Yami no Matsuei, aka Descendants of Darkness crossover fic has decided to grow fangs and start gnawing on my foot, so now I'm tempted to take a break and work on *that*, but I'm worried if I do, I'll fall completely off the word count bandwagon on the NaNo. The best I can do at the moment is type the NaNo and jot things for the crossover fic when I've got my 1,667 words for the day in.
