CD Book Club / Re: Cold Days Book Club - Chapters 45-53 **MAJOR SPOILERS**
« on: November 28, 2012, 01:31:44 PM »
My question is: Do all immortals know that Halloween makes them vulnerable? Is it like Fight Club, and they just don't talk about it? Because Maeve clearly knew that a bullet was putting down Lily.

Also, while the Courts are going to be in complete disarray, at least Harry had 5 of the 6 Queens at least friendly-ish to him.
Mother Winter: Likes him so much she tries to cleaver him.
Mother Summer: Benevolent Grandmother
Mab: is... Mab
Titania: Wants him to burn
Molly: is Grasshopper
Sariss: Kinda likes him

DFRPG / Re: Posters: The how's and why's of our gaming.

1. How did you start gaming?
About 14-15

2. What system did you start with?
WoD: VtM

3. What systems have you played?
AD&D, D&D 3, D&D 3.5 D&D 4, Exalted, Gurps, Rifts, D20 Wheel of Time, Magic, obviously DFRPG

4. What system/s are your favorite?
D&D 3.5, Rifts, DFRPG

5. Is this your first system?
No

6. What caused you to try DFRPG?
Love the books, the world is captivating and I had heard good things about the FATE system

7. What is your preference in gaming group size?
5-6, enough for everyone to have a role without too much overlap while still letting everyone specialize if they want

8. How open are you to gaming with people you don't know or hardly know?
As long as eveyone is friendly and helpful, I love new people

9. What is your best quality as a player?
Creative and collaborative

10. What is your worst quality as a player?
I can sometimes have problems with meta-gaming as I love the subject matter and thus know too much about the world or creatures than my character should

11. What is you best quality as a GM?
I give lots of detail and believability

12. What is your worst quality as a GM?
Not very flexible, aka I'm a railroader

13. Importance of game balance 1 - 10 (1 being lowest 10 being highest)
If its a good group and people self censor: 3
If you have munchkins/power gamers who can control themselves: 8

14. Importance of setting/canon of universe 1 - 10 (1 being lowest 10 being highest)
10

15. Custom setting or established setting?
Established

16. During character creation are freedom of powers more important or the character concept and the powers and skills fitting that concept? EDIT: FIXED!?
Concept! Build the story, then figure out how.

17. Roll play or role play?  Something inbetween? ( Role playing skills vs dice for resolving things in game)
Role with story lines, Roll for action. If its audacious enough, let it fly! (Within reason of course)

18. Other: anything notable to volunteer that could explain your view of gaming or your posts on here (obviously mood, upbringing and personality has an affect here, but lets not get too personal eh?)
I'm twelve years and counting in the Army, so for me, I can be a bit of a pain figuring out how to win tactically before a fight. However, I love playing non-glass cannon/bruisers. I love playing intrigue and social situations. Possibly because I work public affairs.

I'd argue that the swords do have some sort of enhanced damage magically added, simply by dint of the abilities they have in the DFRPG. The ability to go from Weapon 3 (as in something really really sharp) to Weapon 6! is huge. After all, Weapon 4 is on the scale of hand grenades if I remember correctly. So to do more damage with a sword than being hit by a train is rather significant.

Add to that fact that it only works a few times a day tells me that magic is adding to the effect otherwise it would be a constant Weapon 6 as opposed to Weapon 3.

You could also have the classic: I'm Not Even Supposed to be Here!

Or possibly: This was my day off!

While I think legally there is nothing against it, might I suggest sending an email or request to EvilHat as to their preferences. Becasue while I agree it could be very useful and I for one would use the heck out of it, getting their blessing on it in the first place could remove potential issues before they begin.

Don't worry. WoJ simply stands for the Word of Jim. There is a labor of love to collect and document everyone of Jim's interviews, both written and verbal, internet and live. They are used as references to establish the "canon" for the Dresdenverse.

They can be found http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/board,43.0.html and are lovingly tended by Serack, keeper of the WoJ.

Isn't this directly exampled by

You got to get up close and personal to take someones skills abilities and magic. It's part of their essence, and you got to work for that.

New High Concept: Rogue Summer Knight of the Cross

Also, I don't think that your sponsor has to spend fate points to compel you, its part of the whole, "I give you power, you do my will" kinda thing.

DFRPG / Re: Held at gun point

I thought we were talking held at gunpoint at point blank range here...
That was my assumption as well. For yes, lots of shots miss or don't hit anything vital, but having someone at point blank range with no room to manuver is leaving little to chance. Besides, Trixie probably had a full magazine, and the will to use it.

To paraphrase Ron White "I don't know how many bullets it would take to kill me, but I knew how many he was gonna use."

One, figure that the aspects of "Point Blank Range" and "In my sights" are applied. Thats +4 right there, a weapon 2 and a Fair +2 gun skill. With the best roll possible, your looking at a possible 10 shifts plus a weapon 2. So if Harry rolls bad, he's getting approx 8 shifts of damage, thats going to hurt a mortal any day of the week.

First of all, we're getting onto the shakey ground of Hot Topics. So I'd recommend avoiding the political talk.

Secondly, I think the Colt Peacemaker could work. It's border line handcannonish, and it just has that old school threat style that many modern firearms dont have. It says, "I'm here with lethal intent, you better walk small or it's gonna be a bad day for you."

DFRPG Resource Collection / Re: Item math it hurts my head
« on: November 29, 2010, 06:02:58 PM »
Math Writen as an equation

(Lore +5)+(Focus+2)+(Refinement +1)= Power of 8
(Base 1)+(Specialization+1)+(Focus+1)+(Refinement+1)= Frequency of 4

So that should be the base items using one item slot. Obviously items using more than one slot could differ +1 on either for each additional slot used.

I thought if it was a sticky aspect, I could tag it for its duration. Did I read that wrong?

DFRPG / Items adding aspects
« on: November 29, 2010, 10:52:53 AM »
Ok, so I need some input to see if I've done this right.

I have a pair of boots that are enchanted. I want them to provide the Aspect "Nimble as a Mountain Goat" when activated, that I can then tag to provide a +2 Athletic bonus. I have a lore of +4 with a Thaum (Crafting) specialization +1 frequency and a crafting focus +1 Power/+1 Frequency.

Now I'm using the Manuver rules on YS 252-253. which normally uses 3 shifts of power. So could I make my boots apply the sticky aspect (3 shifts) last three exchanges (2 shifts) three times a session (2 frequency)? I'm just checking on the math.

I have a total +5 on my power (+4 Lore, +1 focus) and a 3 on my frequency (1 default, +1 frequency specialization, +1 focus item)

It looks right, but I want to make sure I did it properly.
