Hey, folks --
We could use some volunteer rules-nitpickers to look over our next free one-shot adventure before it goes public.
Here's the catch, though: you can't volunteer yourself. So I'm looking for folks who reply to this thread to nominate (and second/third/etc) other forum members that they recognize as having a deep understanding of the rules and a good eye for detail. I'd like to pick about half a dozen folks from the nominees when it's all said and done to take an early look at the adventure & send us feedback & corrections on the stats.
So: who's your favorite "nitpicker" from around these parts?
-
I guess I will start.
I am going to be fair and nominate both people I agree with and tend not to agree with, but all of whom tend to know what they are talking about.
Drachasor
crusher_bob
Moriden
Shecky
MijRai
devonapple
::bows::
-
bibliophile20 (He's generally helpful)
BumblingBear (I often disagree with him, but that doesn't mean he isn't good at this sort of thing)
devonapple (Seconded)
-
I would suggest:
Mal Luck
KOFFEYKID
HobbitGuy1420
Mal and KOFFEY know the rules well, and Hobbit has a good head for flavor. They have the idea behind making their own powers pretty well too.
-
Not to form a mutual admiration society, but I have to second
Mal Luck,
Devonapple &
MijRai,
all three of whom I've bounced ideas off in the past in Chat. They've got good heads on their shoulders.
Edit: Can't believe I forgot Sanctaphrax! If anyone deserves to be nitpicking, he does.
-
Nominate/Second these guys:
Sanctaphrax
MijRai
HobbitGuy1420
KOFFEYKID
Ala Alba
Amelia Crane
Hobb has been in several games and made a couple decent original concepts. Koffey has ran a game or two off site and is very knowledgeable, Mij makes pretty good builds (though he can be stubborn ;) ), Sancta works his ass off making sample NPCs. Ala is a fantastic writer in my opinion and good a build making. Amelia is GM of the Miami game and also a great builder of characters.
-
My nitpicker nominees are:
BumblingBear
crusher_bob
Drachasor
-
I would opt to second the following folks who I've found to be a great help:
Amelia Crane
bibliophile20
HobbitGuy1420
Mal_Luck
MijRai
Sanctaphrax
-
Yeah, please take my name out of there (thanks for the nomination anyway, BB). I still haven't studied the rules enough to consider myself truly well-versed; what commentary I offer is 1) focused more on external consistency and 2) usually tied in to the novels' text. But I've seen plenty of folks nominated already who obviously know the rules inside and out. It's a good pool, Fred.
-
I nominate:
Mal_Luck
MijRai
Amelia Crane
HobbitGuy1420
Sanctaphrax
-
Off the top of my head here on the guys that I have bounced ideas around with and read good feedback from.
Sanctaphrax
Drachasor
Devonapple
bibliophile20
BumblingBear (and I'm with Sanctaphrax; I'm often on the other side of an debate with him, but that is not a bad thing at all!)
-
Sanctaphrax, Bibliophile20, and HobbitGuy1420.
-
Hey folks,
Keep 'em coming, but we think we're going to need to do another pass before I can hand stuff over to a nitpicker squad to dig deep (it ain't to our standard yet), so we're looking at a few weeks out, I think.
-
bibliophile20, MijRai, and Devonapple are my picks
-
AmeliaCrane, MijRai, and cgodfrey7 are my votes.
-
Devonapple, Sanctaphrax and BumblingBear
-
Devonapple
-
I also suggest Amelia Crane and Ala Alba.
-
DeadManWalking
Richard Chilton
Devonapple
and the KoffeyKid
-
Richard Chilton
Devonapple
Sanctaphrax
BumblingBear
bitterpill
crusher_bob
bibliophile20
(I'm horrible with names, so I just went through this thread and picked posters and suggested names that I remember having good conversations with rules about).
-
And here's the count. It looks like a pretty good crowd to me.
9 devonapple
7 Sanctaphrax
6 MijRai
6 bibliophile20
5 BumblingBear
4 Amelia Crane
4 HobbitGuy1420
3 Drachasor
3 Mal Luck
3 crusher_bob
3 KOFFEYKID
2 Ala Alba
2 Richard Chilton
Moriden
cgodfrey7
DeadManWalking
bitterpill
-
Thanks for that wrap-up Sanctaphrax. :)
-
I've only been on the forums for a few short weeks, but there are three posters that I've found the most helpful when constructing my game. I vote for:
devonapple
Sanctaphrax
bibliophile20
-
I nominate:
Moriden
devonapple
Bibliophile

Hey, folks --
We could use some volunteer rules-nitpickers to look over our next free one-shot adventure before it goes public.
How close is this to release?
-
Do we have an ETA for release?
-
I am really excited.
I have a new group I am gming for now too so I could try some stuff out.

Same here. Fred, do we have a rough ETA for this, or guys focusing more on Rumors?

From his twitter earlier this morning:
Am hopeful we'll be able to share another DFRPG casefile with folks sometime in the next month or so.
-
And it's out. Should we start nitpicking now? Or would you prefer we leave it alone?
Or did you already pass it around? Because this is a lot more polished than Neutral Grounds.
Revised list:
11 devonapple
8 bibliophile20
8 Sanctaphrax
6 MijRai
5 BumblingBear
4 Amelia Crane
4 HobbitGuy1420
3 Drachasor
3 Mal Luck

::Waits for an answer with baited breath::
My group can't wait to hopefully be guinea pigs.
They're very excited about this.
-
::Waits for an answer with baited breath::
What'd you bait it with? Cheese? Tuna? Vegemite? ;D

Lol... given those three options, probably cheese. :P
-
And it's out. Should we start nitpicking now? Or would you prefer we leave it alone?
My understanding was that we would be reviewing something before it went public. "Casefile: Night Fears" is totally public now.
We can certainly review and possibly give edits which will obligate a re-release, but I suspect the Nitpicker review process was either overlooked, or was intended for a later project.
-
Has anyone considered running Night Fears on the PbP forum?
Nitpick:
Toby Cranston's notes call his mental attack Superb to Epic. His Great Intimidation means that that should be Great to Fantastic. Also, the notes say Average initaitive, attack and defence whereas his skill list says that other skills default to Mediocre.
Suggestions:
Performance seems like another possibility for telling ghost stories.
Given the tone of the adventure, I think that Chris could make mental attacks on players with Glamours if he felt inclined. Spice up the ghost storytelling scene a bit.

If anyone GMs a new game I am down with playing.
-Just throwing that out there-

Unstickying this because it's old and the adventures came out ages ago so there's no need to nominate anyone anymore. If you think it should stay sticky, now's your chance to say so.
