DFRPG / Paranet Papers
« on: March 11, 2015, 02:09:26 AM »
Definitely worth the wait from what I've read so far. I love the updated stat blocks and some of the new spell casting bits.

Is there an official typo thread? I've noticed a few errors and was wondering if there was a place for us to post them?

Anyone taken a stab at some of the new faces?

DFRPG / Shutting down a spell caster
« on: January 15, 2013, 12:47:45 AM »
We see a couple of examples in the books of a spell caster shutting down a lesser caster.

Seems like a Block is the way to go, but not sure about the best way to implement it.

Would the block be set against the Calling up of Power? The amount of power drawn in by the adversary would have to beat the block. Or would it be better that the block be set against the spell casting roll?

DFRPG / Chase and Cat and Mouse

How have you made use of the Chase and Cat and Mouse mechanics?

I'm looking for cool ways to put these to use that I hadn't thought of before.

DFRPG / Heinrich Kimmler and Warhammer
« on: December 29, 2010, 08:04:52 PM »
Since Heinrich Kemmler from the Dresdenverse is at least an homage to he of Warhammer fame (not sure if this has been officially confirmed), what if they were one and the same and these worlds could collide?

How would you go about it?

I've been itching to use Fate for a fantasy game and this might just be where I start.

Bonus points to anyone who stats up Gotrek with DFRPG  ;D

DFRPG / [Magic]Zone borders
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:07:28 PM »
As a special type of Block, do zone borders survive being bypassed like armor does or do they fall apart per normal blocks?

I'm inclined to think it might depend on the situation, a troll smashing through a magical earthen wall would remove the border while a vampire leaping it wouldn't.

Thoughts?

DFRPG / Using DFRPG to stat your favorite non Dresden characters
« on: August 18, 2010, 01:19:05 AM »
One of the coolest threads from the Green Ronin forums was where folks statted out a huge range of characters from different genre using True20. I would love to see us put together something like that for DF if there is any interest.

So, can you stat a character or creature from Lord of the Rings? How about Mr. Spock? Spiderman? Adrian Monk? Doc Holliday? Chewbacca? William Wallace? Jaime Lannister? I'm throwing down the gauntlet to the DF rpg forum - you must deliver!

DFRPG / Targeting a death curse
« on: July 25, 2010, 04:46:58 AM »
Let's say we have a wizard who has taken a mild and a serious consequence in a fight. He is going to out with a bang. He tags his two consequences for a total +4. He inflicts a moderate and extreme upon himself for another +12. His Lore is Good +3. Total shifts are 19. He is going to lay down a 17 shift attack on an entire zone. What would be the targeting roll? I don't recall it being spelled out, but I'm tempted to treat the same as a ward landmine. Which is to say the targeting roll equals the power of the evocation (17 or 19?).

Thoughts? Have I missed something?

DFRPG / Extended spell attacks
« on: July 13, 2010, 10:20:31 PM »
While there are rules for extending the duration for blocks and maneuvers there aren't any for attacks.

Is there a way to incorporate something like this?

For example, can you create a zone based attack that would hang around and effect others that move into the zone? Something like the old D&D spell Cloudkill.

Or would you just handle it as a ward type effect?

DFRPG / Maneuver questions
« on: July 07, 2010, 03:24:24 AM »
I've got a few questions I would like to get clarified about maneuvers -
specifically regarding evocation magic.

A maneuver placed by magic doesn't seem to play out the same way as other
mundane maneuvers. Mundane maneuvers go "sticky" with an extra shift but magical
maneuver's durations aren't effected by the targeting/control roll. Instead they
get their duration from extra shifts of power where 1 shift = 1 round. Is this
correct?

Can someone lay out an example of putting a maneuver on someone with a defending
skill? I'm confused about the targeting/control roll when putting a maneuver on
someone. If you meet their defending skill in shifts of power (is it a free
assessment action?) do have to also beat them in an opposssed roll to target
them?

What's the difference between putting an aspect on a scene and putting it on a
zone? The example in the book has Evan putting an aspect on the scene. It's a lot more expensive to put it on a whole zone, but how is a scene
aspect more limited?

Thanks for the help!

How to handle it? Like when Ebenezer shuts down Mavra.

DFRPG / Spell Compendium
« on: June 22, 2010, 04:36:15 AM »
One of the best things about the rpg is the flexibility of the magic system. Of course everyone can benefit from examples and with a free form system I would like to see other folks' ideas and spell and item creation.

With that in mind, I thought I would like to see a thread where we put together spells, potions and items from the books and of our own design. If someone has done a spell but you have a different take, by all means please post yours as well.

DFRPG / Recovery Powers for spellcasters
« on: June 17, 2010, 11:50:49 PM »
I was wondering if you guys think it would be appropriate to have recovery powers for mental stress and consequences?

I see this as being primarily useful for spellcasters. I see someone like the Merlin slinging spells for a long time before tiring. If he had something like Mythic Spellcasting and could shrug off 3 mild mental consequences it would allow him to do it.

What are your thoughts about adding recovery powers for mental stress?

And a secondary question, if I create these powers and make them where they only affect self-inflicted consequences from casting, what would you rate the catch as?

DFRPG / The Dragonknight
« on: June 15, 2010, 12:51:16 AM »
I'm looking for suggestions and help with creating a major NPC for my group. The idea is he is an Emissary of Power for a dragon. He is extremely wealthy and doesn't necessarily have to be evil.

I'm open to a a range of refresh and power levels. Whatcha got for Aemon Prince the Dragonknight? (hey, if Jim can tip his hat to Tolkien, I can tip my hat to GRR Martin  ;)
