Title: Best Quotes
Post by: Darla on July 08, 2006, 12:26:54 PM
Yeah, this is only one book, but since there's at least one good quote on nearly every page, I figured it deserved a topic of its own.

Like the one about nostalgia:

"All I know is that every time I walk into a gymnasium, I get hit with a rush of memories from my own days of high school.  Some people call that phenomenon "nostalgia."  I call it "nausea."

Or MJ's comment on male-speak:

"Peter," she said, "I know that in your head, you just said something that conveyed actual information.  But when it got to your mouth, it grew fur, beat its chest, and started howling at the moon."

There are about a zillion more great quotes in here, but I'll let somebody else have a turn.

Yeah, that line got me laughing big time. Wish they'd release that on DVD.

Not quite finished with the book, but:

"It's this magical crap," I said..."It's such hogwash."
'Freaking sorcerors. Freaking mystic muckety-mucks.'

I love all the magic = crap griping from Spidey, given Jim's *cough*  other books.
And the one I read this morning:
'It's a rare man who can honestly say that his butt has a superpower.'

I just picked up the book, and got about 50 pages in on the bus ride back home!  There's been one quote (so far) that's had me literally laughing out loud...yes I did get some odd stares on the bus!   Actually, odd stares until they saw I was reading (Then a couple seemed to want to know what the book was...and yes, that did get me started on promoting Jim!  It helped that I also had a copy of Blood Rites with me).

Anyway, the one quote...this one will be familiar to those here who were on the mailing list.  Right now I think that's most of us, but anyway, here's the quote...

"It dimly occurred to me that at this point, if I was Han Solo, faced with a genuine threat to my life, I would officially have moral license to shoot first."

I vividly remember the day that the original Star Wars trilogy (at least the "special edition" version) came out on DVD.  There was a lively discussion on the email list, and Jim stepped in with a post of little more than four lines..."

OOPS!

I accidentally posted the message!

Anyway, so Jim added to the discussion with 4 lines...all caps:

"HAN SOLO SHOT FIRST!"

When I read the quote I mentioned above in Darkest Hours, I almost fell out of my chair!

Don't have the book in front of me, but the first quote that pops into my head is something Mary Jane said.  Paraphrased - "I grew up in New York.  I'm not supposed to know how to dirve."
Maybe it's cause I live so close to New York that I find that hilarious. *shrugs* I dunno.

I also thought the quote about his but was hilarious.  "It's a rare man that can honestly say that his but has a superpower."

 ;D ;D ;D

Hey guys, im about a 100 pages in and theres been a few great quotes, but there's one thats had me cracking up. It was the smal line at the beginning of chapter 5. Gonna have to quote the last line of chapter four as it sets it up.

'At the centre of it all, in the thick plume of black smoke, stood a single, hulking figure. I altered my course, spat a new line from my web shooters, and swung down to give whoever it was a big old double-heeled mule-kick greeting on behalf of the citizens of New York.
Did i mention that i have a tedency to get in over my head?'

and for the quote -
"I hollered, "BOOT TO THE HEAD!"
I couldnt stop laughing!

So far my fav!

I personally will never be able to stop laughing about the conversation in aunt may's apartment between Spidey and Rhino.  The whole thing is pure gold.  Plus MJ snickering in the background makes it even better.

That convo between Rhino and Spidey was priceless...
R - "Who makes a suit with no pockets?"
S - "Yeah... stupid..."
MJ dies laughing in the kitchen.

I loved every comment about Rhino's hat... even he hates it.

I don't remember where in the book it is, but there was a quote:

"I fidget, I'm a fidgeter"  that makes me smile inwardly at odd times :)
