For me I REALLY wanted to like SotC, but it just did not click with me when I read it.  Which has me worried I will not care for the Dresden Files RPG when it comes out.  Guess I prefer traditional RPGs too much to really get something like SotC.

DFRPG / Re: Anyone gaming Dresden anymore?

I used a combination of stuff from Buffy and Witchcraft to run a short Dresden-esque game.  For quick magic I used some of Witchcrafts Invocations because they seemed to kind of fit and used the Buffy magic system (modified a bit) for ritual magic.  It went pretty well and only stopped because I had ideas for other games.  I'll probably return to it at some point.  Even when the official Dresden Files RPG comes out I may still end up using my homebrew because the Spirit of the Century system (that the Dresden Files RPG will be based on) doesn't quite click with my style.

I have also considered using West End Games D6 Adventure RPG, but haven't really put too much thought into it at this point.

I like the Post-Apocalypse idea.  Hmmm...  Perhaps a Dresdenverse ala Mad Max.

DFRPG / Alternate Time Periods for Dresden RPGs
« on: November 20, 2007, 03:18:19 PM »
Has anyone thought of setting games in the Dresden-verse in different time periods other than modern day?  One I plan on doing is running a Dresden-verse game set in the 1930s or 1940s.  I mean, how can one resist having an evil Nazi Wizard? :D

I've also contemplated something set in the 1980s.  My other random thought was one set in the 1860's or so.

No real solid thoughts on any of these, but I was just curious if anyone was thinking along similar lines.

I'm thinking of doing a Dresden-esque RPG using Eden Studio's Unisystem.  For Evocation type magic I'm using Invocations from Witchcraft and for rituals I'm using the magic system from the Buffy RPG.  I think it'll work out pretty well for my needs.

DFRPG / Re: Must... make... Dresden Files... MMORPG...

I would honestly have to say it's unlikely.  I just don't think the Dresden Files are popular enough for it.  It would be interesting, but I think it would be very difficult for a MMORPG to capture the feel of the books.

DFRPG / Baltimore
« on: June 20, 2006, 12:56:42 AM »
I'm kind of excited about the RPG using Baltimore as it's city of focus.  The city that brought us Homicide: Life on the Streets.  This will be wonderful.  If I do end up running in Baltimore, I will HAVE to use characters from Homicide as NPCs. :D

Man I am looking forward to this.

Darkest Hours / Just finished the book.... (Spoilers)
« on: June 14, 2006, 03:34:05 AM »
I had pre-ordered the book as soon as I could.  I was surprised Monday when a package from Amazon showed up and opened it to find The Darkest Hours.  I started reading right away.  I mean how could I not?  My favorite author writing for my favorite Super Hero? :D

So I read it over the past two days.  I enjoyed the book quite a bit.

I think my absolute favorite part was the conversation between Spider-Man and the Rhino in Aunt May's apartment.

The Ancients were an interesting villain.

The appearance of Strange and Wong was cool.

A wonderful mix of action and characters.  I hope to see more Spider-Man from Jim. :D
