DF Reference Collection / Re: The identity of the Mothers [CD spoilers]
« on: November 28, 2012, 03:32:14 PM »
It's not likely, it's fact - confirmed at the end of the book by a certain overly clever one-eyed dude.

My question about Kringle/Odin is if they are really the "same person". Is it different aspects of the same 'power' taking on anthropization? Is it like America Gods, where the belief that the two are different lead them to actually BE different?

I guess the simple way to put it is...could Kringle and Odin be in the same room, at the same time?

I also admit that I saw Mother Summer and Winter interacting a bit like Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg (from Discworld) in my head.

I got that vibe myself, which is why I posited that the name Mother Winter does not appreciate is "Crone".

You know, Maiden, Mother, and...the other one.

Given that Pratchett was directly referenced this time around, I'm led to believe that the name Mother Winter does not wish to be called is Crone, like Granny Weatherwax before her.

As for their Identity, I believe they are two aspects of the same being, Mother Earth or Gaia.

((Snow)) I always have a back-up plan or two. Some of which have everything to do with age.

I would never threaten another SHOV resident  ;)

That said, and to answer your statement, Don, I always have at least 2 swords, several pistols, a shotgun, and my quarter staff on me at all times. With a healthy dose of awesome voice, dangerously genre savvy, and tall/dark/meh, I am always prepared to fight to the pain!

Besides, Snow, how old are you?

*Doesn't know who DG is, even if he could hear Arkham over the fan*

I can't say I know what you're talking about, my friend. You'll notice that the post to which you refer is completely correct  ;)

Ah, if only I could somehow channel my real voice into this forum...my voice could never be covered by a simple, industrial fan.

Snow, keep in mind that you are an endangered species. Do not endanger yourself further  8)

*Faces into the fan, leather jacket flapping, and hair blowing awesomely, giving DC the pointer finger* If you continue to waft away the innuendo, I shall be forced to take it up a notch

+1 to Don for The Todd reference
...and +1 to Snow for the NCIS reference

Now, now everyone, Don is responsible enough to handle a weapon. This is a learning experience for all of us. Don learns how to safely use a sword, through trial and error, and the rest of us...will learn to duck at proper times  ;)

GW, Wanna see my sword?

Doesn't a question like that belong in the Gutter?

((GW)) I'll be around for about another hour or so. I've got work in about 8 hours, so sleep will eventually be necessary.

What flavor ice-cream?

I'll give it a roll after I've tried EVE (which is just finishing downloading)

Unfortunately, I have to head home now and won't be able to play :(

((GW)) No, I haven't. Would you recommend it?

((GW)) Just too many bugs, FPS problems, and the usual, boring MMO grind. It's new so there are lots of issues, although some are inexcusable in a 2012 release.

You'll just have to pick it up and see if it's for you. I loved it for a while, but after taking an enforced break (too busy to play) I just couldn't get back into it.

And Call of Duty should keep me entertained for a short while  :P. I love to test my mettle against other players.

*high five back*

So, I quit Star Wars: The Old Republic today...my next step is to try EVE Online.
And, after years of abstaining, I'm starting to like Call of Duty online.
