That would require a remarkable lack of forethought from interests both of whom have definite connection with Harry's life before then, and both of whom are supposedly to be some combination of superhumanly intelligent and foresighted.

Not a lack of forethought, maybe they just weren't playing attention. Both of them have a lot of balls to juggle. Michael was 'off the clock', while Harry was a personal interest of Lea, and Lea might be withholding details from Mab.

Still, I don't really see this as a long standing alliance. Because I don't think Uriel and Winter really interact, until we get to a certain point. I think the alliance, if it exists, probably only really came into existence with the party at Bianca's place - and perhaps afterwards, when Lea's infection was apparent. After which, I assume Uriel and Mab got together and realised: Oh shit, the Adversary very nearly fucked the both of us, didn't it?

Ok, all laid out there I disagree with a lot less of this theory than I thought I would.  While I doubt they often sit down for afternoon tea, I have no problem with both Uriel and Odin working towards a common goal and with a certain amount of accommodation if not active conspiracy.

My main contention is in characterizing Mab as (knowing/willing) part of that alliance.  Correct me if Im wrong, but the only evidence you site that she is working with them is that bit from bob in GS.  But Bob's theory that they were working together was purely based on the fact that there was an unusually long winter indicating that she was still in town.  Which we later learned was because Uriel had, apparently against her wishes, taken Harry's soul on walkabout, forcing her to sit still on earth and give mouth-to-mouth to a human for months, out of season and at great personal strain.  All so he could teach her new pet that he she was mistaken in her belief that she could mold him at her whim.  And in this case at least we can be certain that she was not simply misleading him as part of some greater manipulation, since we have a WOJ that she was being entirely Truthful, and just happened to be entirely Wrong.  If it were all a collaborative scheme between her and Uriel, that could not have been the case.

Im not saying Mab isn't a Grade A puppetmaster, but I think she's getting handled as much as she is handling Harry.  In the Grand scheme she isnt master of the house, she is the big scary Guard Dog at the gate to keep trespassers out; and Titania is the slightly less scary violently aggressive Dog in the house that's there to stop the big scary dog if she gets off her leash.

PS. is it just me or does every thread seem to derail into a White Court discussion lately?  I myself derailed the Deidre thread earlier today....

Without Harry's interference, Corpsetaker was going to take over Molly, aka Faerie Lady Failsafe #2. That is unacceptable, so Harry's actions in GS did serve Mab's interests. I'm sure that if UMO is the case, the three sides are probably not fully frank with each other. Especially with Mab, since being fully frank with Mab means all sorts of weirdness with respect to 'who owes who a favour now', etc etc.

This might actually explain why Mab wants her allies to act independently of her, even her knight (compare the tighter hold Titania puts on her Lady and Knight, geas and all). Because it circumvents the Winter Queen's big tactical weakness - that she has to follow rules and obligations.

Having read Cold Days, I'm wondering if some of the prior history of Mab (and Titania) will be addressed. Like maybe some historical events have been due to them?

1. Titania and Mab have apparently not spoken since 1066. I.e. the Battle of Hastings? Might either of them had a hand in that conflict? Perhaps William the Conqueror and Harold Godwinson were each's knights? This would explain Harold having such a flawless victory against Tostig, managing to get his forces down south so fast (using the Nevernever?), only to get killed by William.

2. We know that Gilles de Rais was one of the previous holders of the mantle of the Winter Knight. Gilles de Rais was, before he became an insane serial killer of children, a prominent supporter of Joan of Arc, a girl who heard voices and led French forces to victory against the English in the Hundred Years' war. Would that mean that Jean was the Winter Lady? This might work well with the previous theory - if Summer held sway over England, the Hundred Years War could be but one skirmish between the two sides, using mortals as pawns. We also know that Mab owes the Denarians a favour, one that is equivalent to lending them Harry to carry out a service - perhaps Joan had a coin, which explains the prophetic voices she allegedly heard?

3. We know that Kemmler was associated with the Nazis in WWII. During WWII, the Germans invaded Russia, and got close to Moscow, only to be stopped by the coldest winter of the 20th century, arriving earlier than normal. In the popular media, this built into the idea of 'General Winter', on the side of the Russians. Could 'General Winter' be our very own Mab, taking a personal hand in the defeat of Kemmler's allies?

1. We have been told that Nicodemus has a very specific target in mind, ostensibly kept in the Labyrinth of Daedalus.  What is Nic trying to get his hands on and why?

It's probably actually a trick: he's trying to entrap Harry, to get an edge on Mab, and perhaps the keys to Demonreach. But to be convincing to Harry, he'd probably say something dramatic, like, oh, the soul of Judas Iscariot, or something.

2. Nicodemus apparently called in a marker from Mab to get Harry on the team.  Does he have a specific plan for using Harry or did Mab twist his request?  Which of Harry's capabilities will he admit to needing, and (given that this is Nicodemus after all), which abilities is he scheming for Harry to use?

He knew Dresden would be sent. He needs Dresden to diiiiieeeee...

3. Jim has mentioned that the book will be "Ocean's Eleven".  Who else did Nicodemus recruit?  How will they interact with Harry?

Gang of newcomer mortals who have no idea what they are getting into (probably toting coins, but not yet full denarians), to weaken and distract Harry. Shagnasty the skinwalker in disguise?

4. Harry's general method of operation is to call on his friends for help.  In this book, Harry is (initially) allowed one extra backup member on the crew.  Who will it be?  Which of Harry's other allies will "interfere" before the plot is over?  9/10/13 an interview was published that answers the first half of this question.

We already know Murphy is in it. Molly and Sanya will probably get involved.

5. This is a Denarian book, so (unlike the last "end of the world" showdown), the Swords will almost certainly be present.  In fact, there have been various hints...  Which Sword wielders will appear in the next book and how will their interference/help affect the plot?

Sanya, Michael out for one last job.

6. Mab is apparently against Nicodemus succeeding in this heist.  In the Cold Days, we found that Mab had complex reasons for wanting Harry to kill Maeve.  What are Mab's reasons in this book?  Is it simple thwarting or is there something deeper?

Mab owes Nic one, and Mab always answer her debts. Probably that simple, really. Mab distrusts Nic and suspects Nemesis infection, so sending Harry is one way to be sure - and to deal with it, if necessary. Mab also has possibly made a promise to the parasite to protect it, so maybe this is a way to get around this deal by some kind of quantum faeconomics.

7. At the end of Cold Days, Harry needs to stay on the island to keep his growing headaches at bay.  The start of Skin Games implies that those headaches will need to be resolved by the end of the book.  Who or what is causing those headaches, and how will the whole thing get resolved by the end of the book?

Molly eats it.

8.  One of the key components of the "Ocean's Eleven" movie is that there is a final twist/reveal.  Given that we've got Nicodemus, Harry, Mab, and potentially Hades (and who knows who else) all trying to get the better of each other, if there's one thing you can count on it's some sort of last minute quintuple-cross.  What will be the nature of the twist and how will it all fall out?

Shagnasty reappears and has his own agenda. Demonreach suffers a partial prison break. Something very nasty is released. Molly will have to accept her power to prevent total destruction.

9.  (Extra Credit) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards, some crazier than others.  Write up to three WAG theories (or make up your own) you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Skin Games.

MacAnally is Merlin.
Karrin Murphy is infected with Nemesis.

10. (Extra Credit) This is that "free form" question where you can come up with anything else you think will be in this book.  Specific quotes Harry might say (will he actually quote Ocean's Eleven?  The movie will have come out already in Harry's timeline)? Tidbits about the White Council? The fate of Molly? Write down anything you want.  Note that whatever you write must be specifically mentioned or hinted at in Skin Games in order to be worth credit.

*Why* Mab owes Nicodemus one will be a big deal in the book.
We might get some hints about why Mab and Titania had their falling out.
Nicodemus will die a heroic death.
