Be honest, who is going to (besides me) buy the book with no intention of playing, but just to read it and look at the pretty pictures?

Oh, I always intend to play... ;)

Honestly? I don't remember. We'll at least forum-suggest other options if we don't get them in the text. But there've been a lot of revisions, and many of them are in my head. :)

Ah, you creative types.  Just can't stop tinkering, can you?  :)

You can also use the "Starblazer Method" and roll d6-d6. Gives a +5 to -5 range with more of a swing to it, but it doesn't break the game to do so.

Interesting!  Will Dresden Files have a default method, or offer different options?

A leather-bound edition sounds cool, but I think the company'd probably have to stick with regular hardcover.
. . . I'm not sure if this is covered elsewhere, but what kind of dice'll be required; or is it going to be like a larp, with rock-paper-scissors? ;)

The game will use Evil Hat's FATE rules, which are in turn based on FUDGE.  I'm certainly not an expert, but I'd say they were light tabletop rules.  The dice are d6 with two '+' faces, two '-' faces. and two blank faces.  They're called "FUDGE dice"; you can order them from a variety of places online.  You can also just use regular d6 if you read them as d3 and subtract two.  Oh, and each player needs four dice.

Here's a question for those of you actually writing the book.  There are expositions on magical theory scattered throughout the novels.  Does magical theory get its own chapter or section?  It's one of the coolest aspects of the Dresden Files: we sort of know why all this stuff works, at least in fictional terms.

However, nothing in the RPG will contradict "Backup."

Okay, now I am really, really looking forward to reading "Backup".  I'm guessing that Thomas may know things that would surprise Harry quite a bit.  Am I right?

None of the writers has ever mentioned there being "exclusive" lore in the RPG.  It will be current through the first 10 books, the published short stories, the "Welcome To The Jungle" comic, and the upcoming novella "Backup".  The info based on that source material will apparently be quite detailed.

I know that updates are planned.  I think Fred said they might be PDFs.  Further down the line, we may get a second edition.  Remember, however, that there are 13 books left to go.  And right now they're concentrating on getting the game out in the first place.

NOTE: I am in no way involved with the game or with Evil Hat.  I'm just repeating what I've gleaned from this site and the podcasts.

One thing I was thinking about would be "plagues" that breakout and have a "containment zone" would be an interesting hook... having one character that is wizard working at the CDC or WHO

A wizard would have problems working directly for either of those outfits (he or she would be awfully hard on modern office and lab equipment).  I could see the Wardens having an informant there.  Pity the poor warden who has to go into the hot zone, simultaneously stopping the evil, dodging the authorities, and trying to keep said authorities safe and ignorant.

And might not ever, due to the way the end of Dead Beat shook out.

I was disappointed when I figured out that Harry probably wasn't getting a sword.  Then again, if Jim makes things too easy for him, the upcoming novels will be awfully short...

Yeah, though I don't know if that connects in a straight line to their pricing structure. They're able to afford some options we may not be able to. :)

Are you planning to solicit preorders?  Having some revenue in advance might help.  Hell, I'd plunk down fifty bucks today for a copy next year if it would help the cause.

Thanks for the heads-up!  I just finished casting my votes.  I didn't vote for Spirit because I've never read it.  However, you were my number one pick for publisher of the year.  You lot are the friendliest and most responsive publishers I've ever encountered.

You also have a consistently mature response to criticism, constructive or otherwise.  On my mental "responses to criticism" continuum, Evil Hat is at one end. The other end is anchored by a guy who's putting out a game whose name is similar to "Domiciles Of The Sanguinated".  ;)

Warden Swords, would those be Items of power or are those too uber for PCs?

It depends on the game you run.  If I let a character have a Warden's Sword, they'd also get cool accessories like a Warden's Cloak, a Warden's responsibilities, and a Warden's enemies.  Congratulations, you are now a primary target of the Red Court!  Enjoy the sword...

I have no part whatsoever in the book's production (I'm just a fellow fan), so take my answer for what it's worth.  Fred and Rob were interviewed on the "Independent Insurgency" podcast a while back.  They said that the book will probably be 8.5 x 11, with a page count over 400.  Chad Underkoffler has written a very detailed guide to characters, place, etc., and this will take up a good chunk of the book.  Sounds meaty!

I want to be able to play a Loup-Garou who can transform at will and retain his human consciousness!  Oh, and it would be cool if he could also set stuff on fire by looking at it.

Seriously, though, the list looks good.

  • Angel: After The Fall
  • Buffy Season 8
  • The Dresden Files
  • Fables
  • Jack of Fables
  • House of Mystery
  • Locke & Key

I've never been able to get into any supers title.
