Children of the sun
« on: May 22, 2025, 02:19:54 PM »
It has been a long thinking theory of mine that it's really SON not sun. That it's actually the church guarding a portal or something.
1. Christian could turn into Christ son hence children of the sun.
2. Lot of holy artifacts out there but none are being used outside of the swords.
3. Hades has some there has to be more.

I'm slightly confused. Do you mean Children of the Sun from the Alera Codex? If so, are you trying to connect the Alera Codex back to earth through Christianity and then to the Dresden Files through the artifacts we have seen?

Yeah that's my theory. What if Codex Alera is part of the Dresden verse.

Well, we know that the world of Codex Alera is a cosmic dumping ground for people who get lost in time/space (like the world in Thor 3). Alera was founded by one of the lost Roman Legions that supposedly wandered through something like a portal and ended up on Alera. It is possible that this Roman Legion did not come from our world, but instead came from the Dresdenverse. Thus it may have had a wizard or two along for the ride or other supernatural creatures.

IIRC there's some strong hints (maybe even a WoJ?) that there's an Alera / CinderSpires link, but less so for something as close to our "Modern World" as the Dresden'verse is.

But of course nothing's impossible, and WoJ says the Nevernever is virtually-limitless, and explicitly includes all sorts of fiction & fantasy places, e.g. Spiderman lives somewhere in the Nevernever, and Frodo in some NeveneverShire, &c.

I think I saw a WAG once that the author did not confirm that the Warriorborn of Cinder Spires are the end results of generations of mating between Canin and humans.

The first time I met that sun/son pun I think was a ST:TOS episode.

And sometimes I see people go "Christ..." plus "...tian" is kinda "...son" so we'll go with that.

I don't think it's so -- not in the Dresdenverse -- because we have both in-world/canonical and meta/WoJ confirmation that Uriel is "erase an entire solar-system with a thought" level of powerful.  Also, I'm pretty sure Mab or Lea have used "the White God" or similar, with no hints of "sun" iconography.

OTOH, we've seen that one of the most pervasive and potent magical forces -- hitting the whole world, every day -- is the sunrise; and the sun has special potency against Rampires, Blampires, and various spirits; and remember when Harry tried to use "Uri" as a nickname for Uriel?  Harry had to come up with another name:  Mr. Sunshine, and there's more than one syncretic tradition in the 0CE-300CE era that conflates Christ with Apollo (he of the sun-chariot).  So some sort of sun / Christian linkage seems possible.

I ran across an interview Jim did over zoom that was mostly regarding the Alera Codex series. He was asked about the Children of the Sun and he stated that they were plant like creatures. If I come across it again I will post the link.
