Next Series Ideas.
« on: May 02, 2025, 03:57:02 AM »
So, correct me if I have anything wrong. Jim has said that he likes alternating between Dresden Files and other series to avoid burning out and giving himself a break. Originally, the Dresden Files was supposed to be 20 case books with an apocalyptic trilogy to cap it off, thus 23 books total. That has gone up by 2 since Battle Ground and Twelve Months are extra books. We should be sitting at a projected total of 25 books. Since Battle Ground is #17 that means there are 8 more left to write (Twelve Months, Mirror Mirror, Fight Night, Dragons, ??, Apocalyptic Trilogy). Cinder Spires is supposed to be a 5 books series last I heard. That means there are 3 more left to write. Alternating with Dresden Files makes the last Cinder Spires book come out between Books 20 and 21. That means that there could be a new series of 5 books with the last one of those coming out after book 25 of the Dresden Files.

I hope that all made sense. We know that Jim has an epic swords and sandals series he wants to write that will be his ode to Lord of the Rings. I anticipate that will be the successor series to the Dresden Files. That still leaves room for another series before the Dresden Files ends. Do you think that there is a possibility that Jim would write another series in the Dresden Universe alternating with Harry's story? It would have to be completely separate from Harry Dresden and his immediate characters to avoid possible burnout. It would also have to take place in the past so as to not reveal any events from the main series. I know that there are WOJs regarding the Author wanting to write in the French/Indian War (where Ebenezer and Listens-to-Wind meet) and the Old West (featuring Luccio's hunt for necromancers). I also think that there would be enough material surrounding WWII (the second rising of Kemmler featuring Justin as a warden) to fill in a series. Any other potential storylines or ideas for another series?

Where did you come up with Fight Night and Dragons?

Fight Night is the supposed title of the book coming out after Mirror Mirror that deals with pro wrestling. In it Hades introduces/hires Harry to investigate trouble happening with gods who are masquerading as pro wrestlers. I cannot remember if the title was explicitly confirmed by the author or if that was fan guessing. Jim has previously said there will be a book involving dragons. I don't know if the full story will be about dragons or if they just play a part.

Here is one WOJ I dug up:

Quote
When are we going to hear more about drakes and dragons?
like Ferrovax? Ferrovax will probably come in real late in the case books and we might see some dragon action about that. I’ve got a good idea for it and it is suitably cool.  But we’ll get there at some point. I hope so. I’ll be terribly disappointed if it isn’t, and (little fake shake to his voice) everyone will yell at me on Twitter.

Yeah, I think Jim might even have mentioned "Fight Night" as the prospective title for his "pro wrestling" book.  Haven't seen the Hades link before, though; can you dig up that cite for me?

The central conceit is AFAIK that a bunch of deity-level adulation-junkies are getting their fix -- their "worship" -- from the "pro wrestling" circuit, the pomp, the glamour.

Given the whole thing with costumes & masks & very-public personna's (that often shift) I expect this is where Harry learns about taking-off and putting-on a Mantle:  lets him "keep" the WK-Mantle without being quite so tightly-bound to all those strictures.

I have looked and looked for the tidbit and I cannot find it yet. I can visualize the screen I saw the quote on. I just cannot find it. I will keep looking.

Sorry for the double post. I forgot to mention in my original post that at some point there will be time travel according to the author. We don't know whether that will be a standalone book, a part of another book (like in a dragon book), or a part of the end trilogy. Given that this touches on one of the Laws of Magic, I assume that it will be a hefty storyline and worthy of its own book or a big chunk of a combined storyline book.
