Dina:
Well, for starters, I teach at the university, so my students are adults. It is much easier. But still, I understand the problem you mentioned, I often feel that way. And sometimes I am scared of the low level of some students.
And when that happens, I become depressed. For example, the other day I was grading a test. And there was a formula, that the student had written correctly, do not care for what the letters mean. h=VA/VP And they have to obtain VP (they had already calculated h and VA). And then, the student did VP=VA*h. I was mad, but I tried to understand that the students are nervous, so silly mistakes happen. But still...
There was another one that had to do "a+d*(q-p)" and they did (a+d)*(q-p). Awful.

Well, isn't that much worse? At least the young ones have an excuse to be stupid. :)
As for the last formula, that's freaking crazy! That was one of the mistakes that my (students? Mentees?) often made. And I had to keep saying: Be careful of where there is and where there  isn't a parenthesis (bracket)... Ad nauseum.
Well that and not being able to perform basic calculations mentally. You don't need a calculator to know what 27+56 is.. Sigh.

Dina:
I know, most of them look at me surprised when I do some mental sum in the spot, and believe me, I am not particularly good at that.
And no, it is not worse because their behaviour is better. Schoolers are much worse.

Fcrate:
I tutored neighbors' kids for free. Trust me, they were better behaved than Englishmen having dinner with the queen. Their parents would not risk getting cut off because of any misbehavior. 😁

Dina:
LOL! I hope they did well. I mean, that they took the best of your tutoring.
