"Classical" slashers in the Dresdenverse?
« on: November 01, 2022, 07:34:19 PM »
Total noob here, so please excuse me beforehand. I am aware of the fact that during the events at "Proven Guilty", several Phobophages acted as slashers at SplatterCon!!!
However, let' s say that I really want to build a "true" slasher like Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers. How would this work canonically and rules-wise?

Mechanically, I think 'Living Dead', Toughness and Strength powers and, possibly recovery?  High weapons and fists.  They probably have stealth as well.  They might have some other schtick that I don't remember.  I haven't watched the movies in ages.

Living dead because they always seem to come back even after they're killed.

Canonically, I think anything goes.  People get powers from strange rituals, deals with powerful entities or are just products of the Nevernever.

Welcome to the board, btw.  Sorry it's a bit quiet around here.

Thanks for your message and the welcome.:-)
And hey, I got at least one answer, so...

"Living Dead" sounded good to me, too, but doesn' t that power exclude recovery powers automatically?

The power says:

Corpse Body. Your body is a corpse. This means
that you cannot recover from consequences
with time, because your body does not regenerate. Any physical consequences you suffer
are permanent until you take some kind of
effort to remove them (know any good taxidermists?) or seek supernatural assistance to
reconstruct your body

Seek supernatural assistance, so I could see recovery powers as being supernatural way to recover.

Whether or not it fits the 'classic slasher' trope, I don't know.

You may want to think of stunts:

"JUMP SCARE"
Add +2 to stealth when ambushing teenagers/camp counselors  :)

Unholy pursuit:
+2 to Investigate checks when you are the 'cat' in a cat and mouse contest.

There may already be similar stunts in the book.

I see where you're getting at. I would have assumed that "seeking supernatural assistance" means that someone else has to pump you up again, but one could read it also that way.

And the stunts you just made up? Pure gold, man. Pure gold. :D Thanks!

Yeah, I made up the stunts.  Generally, a stunt gives a +1 bonus or a +2 if the bonus is situational.

Regarding recovery: Who knows what foul pacts the character has made to garner such power.  Sounds like a character aspect.
