Yes, and then...? He gave the pokeball back at Alfred but he never mentioned to do the same with the Spear.

this... Reminds me of his pentacle in CDs. If anything important happened to it I'm sure it would have been mentioned, Jim likely just didn't think to specify beyond harry took it back apart.

My honest feel, is this was Dresden getting a new "primary carry" so that Murph is always with him on the battlefield in a very round about way... but that it needed to be said when it was so that he *still* had it it when Murph's body was taken/gone. It's still a Chekhov's Gun moment, but it's pay off wasn't for this book. I imagine there will be some pay off with Mirror Murphy in Mirror, Mirror and perhaps with real Murph somewhen down the line.
Conspiracy Theorist:
Forget Murphy’s gun, where was Sasha hiding a Kalashnikov?
Backup is important, he had something personal of Murphy’s when her body disappeared. Thats the significance of it.

I agree with both of you, it will be significant later, but stil I feel disappointed is not mentioned again in the aftermath of BG. Even to say that Harry throw a mournful glaze at it or something. It's not a major problem anyway, just something I would have liked to see in print.
