I agree that the line from Mab about knowledge versus immortality is interesting, and possibly tied to him being a Starborn that will get to choose his path.  But it makes a Starborn sound like a Sidhe changling, in a way. Like you can be mortal and free, or immortal and restricted.

Drakul isn't like the Blamps, and seems to be immortal to some extent.  He's supposedly a scion, but also not a scion and just something trapped in a human body.  Maybe the compromise between them is that as a Starborn, Drakul could choose mortality or immortality. He chose immortality, and should have ascended to another form of existence, but was instead trapped in his original body. Now he's something in between.
