Bit of a rough day. A new hire with two weeks on the job is acting like a bit of @$$. Unfortunately, the new hire works in my section where I am the lead-in-charge. I feel that he is not content to be in a non-lead position after retiring from a Navy supervisor-type position. Additionally, there is a concern on my part that I am white and he is black. The cause of the problem is about what music gets played in the work area. Personally, I could care less as long as work gets done; but, I don't want him to monopolize the music over the other workers. I gave him two options; work out an arrangement with the others or no music at all. Any suggestions?

Ummmmmmm.....If he keeps acting up, I'd sugest laying down the law. Make it clear your in charge, not him.

Yeah, that it close to the conclusion that I reached. Thanks, Otlan.

Yes, your options were good. Also, headphones, if it is possible.

I hope they don't put Electrocutus in charge of the Borg invasion force. ;) That would suck.

I agree with the others on this. Whatever you choose to do, don't back down from it. If he's any kind of reasonable, the employees will work it out among themselves.
