In an alternate reality that is germane to the story.

This allows our Murphy not quite to get a mantle but a different Murphy to have one in another alternate reality. This option though needs to have some hook back into the real story somewhere.

close, and I know why that's the most direct representation thought of, but other mythos in play make the archetype broader.
