Snark Knight:
Well now I'm more confused than I was before the AMA.

We have in the books that Vlad Tepes went over to the Black Court, in the last AMA that he created the Black Court after turning himself into the first one by botching some plan to win his father Drakul's approval, and now in this one that he made a Fae bargain to be together forever with his lover and wound up frozen in Mab's prison garden / trophy case. From everything Jim has said previously about Blampires in Q&As I'm surprised at one of them still having the psychological room for things like romantically caring about anyone else, unless Vlad is somehow different via being the first one.

I'm not sure what to make of the couple in Byzantine outfits looking 'young' instead of 'rotten' if he's the BCV king, either. Maybe a glamour because Mab's aesthetic sensibilities would have been offended by keeping the true form of a BCV around the garden? Or somehow the king stays human-looking and it's his progeny who rot? Maybe his lover was a mortal woman and they went to the Fae because turning her wouldn't have been a satisfactory way to be "together forever" due to the defects in second-generation and later blampires?

In any case, I'm pretty shocked at the core concept that Mab has been keeping the Black Court King as a lawn ornament and that's not fodder for any further story plans.

Separately, the mention that Simon Pietrovich was an Earth specialist might be a blow against the Simon=Cowl theory since Cowl never seemed to do anything particularly earth-centric. A specialist geomancer probably could have squashed that lava barrier Harry used to cover the retreat in White Night quite easily instead of waiting for it to subside.

He's either lying, misremembering, or telling the truth.  Since the Black Court story has changed several times, I'm not sure what to think.

Um, wasn't in Vlad Dracul who is the black king? Or am I misremembering things here?

No, Drakul is something else.  His son was the one that was originally said (perhaps misinterpreted) as "joining" the Black Court in an act of rebellion.  Then it was that he created the Black Court when something he tried went awry.  Now it's that he's in Mab's garden.

Of course, all three could be accurate, but it's a stretch.  He could have accidentally become a Blamp (which already existed) while trying to do something else, then founded the formal Court, and then got frozen.  But that all seems unlikely.
